Must win! Do or die! Win or go stay home! We must protect this house! My liver can't handle another loss!

Pick your own flavor of urgency -- they all apply. We've gone round and round talking about this team, its issues, and some of the things they might try to get over the hump to the next level. The only difference now is that Texas -- after having coughed up two in a row at home and a giveaway on the road -- finds itself on the verge of collapse. A fourth straight loss knocks the 'Horns under .500, all but out of contention for a first round bye in the Big 12 tournament, and smack onto the NCAA bubble, with "work to do" to get back into the field.

The good news: Oklahoma State has not defeated a Top 50 team this season.

The bad news: The Cowboys are a more athletic version of Nebraska, who we couldn't dispatch three days ago.

What to expect? Ideally, Texas can get 20-25 good minutes out of Pittman, who the Cowpokes lack the personnel to defend. I wouldn't mind if Gary Johnson snapped his string of three straight horrible games. Damion James assertiveness would be fun. Division 1 basketball from Connor Atchley can't hurt.

I honestly don't know. Obviously, the team needs to get out there, play strong team defense, and win the rebounding battle with the undersized Cowboys; but also it needs to freaking run a little bit when Dexter Pittman isn't in the game. Play with a little aggressiveness and willingness to attack the rim. Anything but the halfcourt mess we've seen over and over the last two weeks.

Hook 'em

Few concerns

OSU jacks up a lot of threes (and averages about 10 makes per game). We’re a team prone to giving up ridiculous threes late in games.

I saw on an ESPN article that we are just 2-6 in games decided on 6 or less points, clearly marking the lack of a good point guard. If this game gets close at the end, hide the women and children!

Time to circle the wagons!!

As Barnes says…..you are what you are. The 3 game losing streak has helped UT fans get a grasp of the expecations of this team going forward. So now its time for the home crowd to help energize this team…………..they need it! Still time to salvage this season and make a run here down the stretch.

alright horns,

3 games doesn’t a season make. Let’s kick the snot out of these cowboys.

Hook Em!

HOLY SHIT AWESOME BARNES

It’s about time we start Johnson and sit Connor. Balbay also starting! This is great only for now but the future.

PG Balbay
SG Abrams
G Mason
SF James
PF Johnson

I like it

that gets james down back in the post

by silky51 on Feb 10, 2009 7:06 PM CST up reply actions

wow

3 straight offensive possesions attacking the hoop

by silky51 on Feb 10, 2009 7:07 PM CST reply actions

the movement and flow of the offense is already looking good...

definately one of our better first 4-5 minutes to start the game on offense in awhile. Balbay may start from here on out. he’s getting the team easy looks

by silky51 on Feb 10, 2009 7:12 PM CST up reply actions

wow we look good so far.

hopefully this holds up at the end of the 2nd half.

by clra2 on Feb 10, 2009 7:12 PM CST reply actions

hmmm...

about 8000-9000 at the game??

by silky51 on Feb 10, 2009 7:13 PM CST reply actions

Ward also getting some early PT

Barnes makes me scratch my head sometimes, but today I love his rotations so far

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:16 PM CST reply actions

CONNOR!

this time a 2 pt jumper, but I’ll take it.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:16 PM CST reply actions

Dexy in the game

OSU counters with some guy that never plays essentially. Some big dude from Sudan.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:20 PM CST reply actions

Abrams three!

we’re up 22-15.

Dexy TWO AND A FOUL@

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:22 PM CST reply actions

Nice lead so far, everything I could ask for

We just have to keep up this defensive intensity and prevent the three ball. You know they’re going to try to use that to get back into the game.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:27 PM CST reply actions

James hits the J

we’re using a full court press.

We’re 12-17 from the field. How about that awesome Rick Barnes offense!

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:28 PM CST reply actions

I like the move if keeping Dogus in

Looks like the offense is really clicking, that could be the OSU defense too tho

Blazz

by blazzinken on Feb 10, 2009 7:28 PM CST reply actions

True, OSu does stink

Plus they’re a Big 12 South team, and we own them so far. On the other hand, Big 12 North teams are undefeated against us.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:30 PM CST up reply actions

so far...

okla st = just the medicine we needed!!

by silky51 on Feb 10, 2009 7:31 PM CST reply actions

Eaton back into the game

whoever he’s guarding must attack him on offense.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:32 PM CST reply actions

Good Connor is here!

just needs to come off the bench

by silky51 on Feb 10, 2009 7:38 PM CST reply actions

Folks, if this season turns around

this was the night it all started…………but let’s finish this one first

by silky51 on Feb 10, 2009 7:44 PM CST reply actions

I can't believe it

we’re up 18 points. It’s like… we’re back. OSU is a bad team no doubt, but I didn’t think in my wildest dreams we’d be blowing them out.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:44 PM CST reply actions

Early MVP's so far

Rick Barnes for his rotation adjustments, Balbay, and Connor

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:46 PM CST reply actions

50!

When was the last time we had 50 in a half?

Blazz

by blazzinken on Feb 10, 2009 7:47 PM CST reply actions

Keep in mind, everyone:

Ok. St. does their best to play no defense.

by HornPossessed on Feb 10, 2009 7:48 PM CST reply actions

i think it's a good thing

we are all witnessing some offense from this team

by clra2 on Feb 10, 2009 7:49 PM CST up reply actions

I agree it's a great thing to see some offensive flow from this team.

And I think the team needed to see that they can, in fact, execute a competent offense.

by HornPossessed on Feb 10, 2009 7:51 PM CST up reply actions

No doubt

but OSU had nothing to do with Barnes’ lineup changes or Connor finding his range. What we’re seeing today is absolutely huge. We could be OU at home if we play like this.

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 7:54 PM CST up reply actions

i'm not one to jump to conclusions...

but i got the feeling that we started this downward spiral against ou…we failed to finish that game and a 3 point lead got blown out to 15..I really think we could dominate ou if we played like this…but again, trying not to jump too far..

by jacobb23 on Feb 10, 2009 7:55 PM CST up reply actions

Who is this team???

I guess they had to drop from the top 25 to really get the message

by future_longhorn_dad on Feb 10, 2009 7:55 PM CST reply actions

Next Year

How will we be? I know about our amazing recruting class, but will they live up to the hype? Will we contend for the championship

Ian Johnson gets on one knee.
Sam Bradford gets on both.

by acho81 on Feb 10, 2009 7:57 PM CST reply actions

With a 3 game losing streak.........

this is far from over…………..yes up 15 at half is awesome………….but we gotta finish

by silky51 on Feb 10, 2009 7:59 PM CST reply actions

Halftime, 52-37

even with OSU being a poor defensive team, who would’ve thought that Balbay would’ve led this offense to probably our most efficient half of the season? Not to mention Connor starting the game on the bench, then coming off the bench to give us 10 points?

by goingforthecorner on Feb 10, 2009 8:00 PM CST reply actions
