Great game

too bad UConn/Pitt couldn’t be the late game. Both teams are clearly top 5 worthy and Final Four contenders.

i hope they don't go to overtime

it seems like that always happens when we are the late game.

In this case I wouldn't mind much

besides I have to watch 24 at 8pm anyway. I’ll be watching the first half of this game on justin.tv.

An even bigger incentive to get out of the 8-9 seed

Watching these two teams (likely #1 seeds) beat each other up punch for punch, I’d rather not have to face either of these teams in the 2nd round (of course assuming we are fortunate enough to get there…)

by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2009 8:13 PM CST reply actions

Texas up 7-6, under 16

Good start. Like the energy. Horns are attacking the rim for the most part and have already been quicker to a couple of loose balls. So far, so good.

Pittman has his man sealed almost everytime on the block

and they won’t get it in to him. Just bad passes trying to get it.

by PSUhorn on Feb 16, 2009 8:24 PM CST reply actions

15-12 A&M, under 12

Turnovers killing the Horns right now. Need to get back to protecting the ball like we have in each of the last two games.

Two fouls on Connor makes spacing more difficult on offense. Texas can either go big with two posts or play small which helps with spacing but hurts on D.

Honestly

this is just a bad matchup for us

We have no one that can guard Elonu/the white guy for A&M without going to a 2-3 zone
When we go zone, carter punishes us on the edge

Our offense blows crap when Abrams is actually guarded

by greenspointexas on Feb 16, 2009 8:55 PM CST reply actions

They got into the set too slow; ran out of time for all the options.

So Eddie Oran says.
They need to read Bobby Fischer’s End Game. So it’s chess; the idea is to have a method and understanding of the movement to close things out.

Worst parts of the game so far

Our defense, and Pittman only getting 2 shots (making both). He only has 1 foul, so why aren’t we force feeding him the ball? They’re shutting down Abrams, so get it to Pittman!

by goingforthecorner on Feb 16, 2009 8:58 PM CST reply actions

68-65 Texas

Pressure is on A&M to win, they’ll crumble.

by silky51 on Feb 16, 2009 9:00 PM CST reply actions

Player Combination

I do not understand Barnes’ player combination. Longhorns looked ok early and then he puts in a lineup that includes Hill, Ward with no Johnson, Balbay or Damion on the floor (and this was before foul trouble)

by IUTex on Feb 16, 2009 9:00 PM CST reply actions

Johnson and James should never both be on the bench (except for foul issues). Is it just me or are Abrams team mates incapable of setting a real fundamental screen to get him open.

by IUTex on Feb 16, 2009 9:06 PM CST up reply actions

He should not have to. With good ball movement (which we do not often He should get open. Other teams get slow white guys open.

by IUTex on Feb 16, 2009 9:11 PM CST up reply actions

alright

we go:

James, Pittman, AJ, Balbay, Mason the rest of the second half

only subbing in GJ and Atchley for Pittman/James and Ward for Mason

by Caradoc on Feb 16, 2009 9:08 PM CST up reply actions

When you can't score, margin of error consequently becomes smaller.

Remember earlier in the season when the D would come out much better the second half. And…oh, that was football. Maybe these guys need some BOOM MOTH*RF8CK*r love potion.

Texas 1-8 from three, AJ 0-3. That’s part of the difference.

If they go to Dex, it will open up AJ. But that is logical.

by whills on Feb 16, 2009 9:06 PM CST reply actions

Optimistic

The Agros are playing as well as they can, while we are giving the ball away and getting nothing for AJ. If that changes, and Gary Johnson continues to deliver, we’ll be OK.
