Question about Pittman

I need some help with a basketball dilemma.  I am not sure if I am being a super homer on this or not.  One of my roommates and I always argue about all things sports.  He is always making very bold statements that he cant always back up with facts.  However, the sport he knows best is basketball.  I attribute this to him growing up in Chapel Hill with a father who is a professor at Duke.  He is a graduate of Wake Forest.

Anyways, this year has been very rough on me, considering the seasons both teams have had (needless to say, I didn't believe him when he said wake would be in the top 15 all year).  We always get into random hypothetical conversations, one of which has to do with sexy dexy.

He said if we played wake dexter would get blocked early and often, and this led to his initial bold statement that pittman would get blocked 5 times against wake (he has since backed down to 3 or 4).  He claims that Al-Farouq would give side help and end up blocking dex 2 or 3 times himself.

For the life of me I cant remember ever seeing Dexter get blocked even once this year (that is, if you dont count the rim rejecting him multiple times against kansas)...

I live in DC so I can only watch the games shown nationally, so I'm looking for some other opinions on this.  Does anyone remember seeing Dex get blocked this year?  Am I overrating his ability??

Also I acknowledged that pittman could potentially be blocked if rick left him in the game too long and he was very fatigued, but like I said I havent seen it.

Dexy got stuffed by Cole Aldrich

on Saturday. I don’t know about being blocked three or four times in a game, but he is definitely susceptible to help defenders, since he sometimes doesn’t read or care to read double teams.

This is really an unknowable question.

But Texas as a team is only being blocked 3.2 times a game. Wake is averaging 5.5. dexter averages 5.5 shots per game and averages making 3.3 of those shots. In the games where Texas as a team was blocked 6 times or more, only a few of those could Dexter have possibly been blocked 4 times (app St) Dexter took 12 shots and made 8, I doubt the other 4 were all blocks. OU (loss) dex was 2 of 7, OU had six blocks. Of couse Texas has not played anyone that has as many blocks as Wake. It does not appear looking at the statistics Dexter has been blocked 3 or 4 times in a game all season, based on that my gut reaction is that the statisitics imply it is unlikely Dexter would be blocked more than twice. I add the caveat that past performance is not necessarily a good indicator of future results.

What if James Henry decided bitches didn’t need to be kicked?

good stuff

I sent this to my roommate over gchat, and he seemed to agree that 4-5 blocks is improbable based on the stats. But he claims that if dexter shot at least 8-10 times he would get stuffed 3-4 times.

Your friend needs help with numbers

Send him here. And tell him to take note that Al Farouq is blocking about 4% of shots taken this year. Or put another way: 1 shot in every 25 attempts. To say he’d block Dexter 3-4 times is pretty absurd on its face. It’d be a huge aberration.
