COBBS/HICKS/SEASTRUNK
My Peeps, It appears that my initial intuition about Demarco Cobbs was correct. He recently did an interview with the Scout.com in which he ranked OU fourth behind Southern Cal , Florida and Louisiana State. After the whole JR day fiasco I'm not sure we are too interested anymore anyway.
Jordan Hicks recently attended a combine in Cincinati in which he gained more acclaim. He Posted a 4.5/40 on a "soft" surface with 37 inch vertical. The kid is explosive! He is also hard to read. Some boards say it looks good for Texas, I say its too ambiguous to call anything in this one.
Rivals.com recently came out with their top 100 in which they included a small blurb from each five star. Seastrunk was bitter about some the criticism he was recieving. (couldn't find the link) Something like I don't know how those people judge me and don't even know me. I wonder if he.., cuz I ... Anyways, for the record I think with he, Gilbert and D. White we would be the best offense ever.
I still think LM gets him.

Surprising for Cobbs not to mention Texas
at all in that article considering the comments he was making about Texas not too long ago and his known propensity for wearing Texas gear around his campus. The big thing with Cobbs is if he can make it down for a visit, which should happen when his ride — his coach and recently-promoted athletic director — gets down with his responsibilities of having to attend all of Central’s basketball games. Texas won’t lose interest in Cobbs until the spring passes without a visit or Darius White commits, at which points his offer could be in jeopardy of being held. No reason to write off Cobbs until he fails to make it down to Austin.
Jordan Hicks is Muschamp’s personal project and I would have to think that is difficult to resist for a guy who has liked the Longhorns for some time. The chances with him are probably better than the chances of landing Corey Nelson.
Seastrunk. Who knows with him. Whatever.

I don't see
Cobbs coming here, he’s not putting out the vibes and I believe the feeling is mutual.

Cobbs
If Texas gets D. White then their WR class will be complete…and good!

I still think that if there was a possibility
of getting them both, it would happen.

He says that he stll wants to come down
He couldn’t control not making it down for either Junior Day. The only ride he has is his coach and his coach has duties as an athletic director he couldn’t avoid. it’s pretty simply, really, and it has nothing to do with a lack of interest from either side. Some of Cobbs’ more recent comments may seem like he has lost interest, but him missing the Junior Day doesn’t.

Seastrunk
Is it just me or does anyone else think this kid is a problem waiting to happen? Maybe I am reading into his comments completely wrong but, I would much rather have a solid running back who is a “team” player rather than a star running back who has ego issues and quite possibly could bring the whole team down with him. If my assumptions are correct, I would rather see him go to LSU before putting on burnt orange.

I'm smellin
what you are cookin, but i am not ready to say he is that just yet. I just think he is awfully young for celebrity and is having problems communicating. I’m sure if I had as many interviews as he has had at times I would goon it up too.

PICS
In all the pictures I’ve seen of Seastrunk, it looks like he’s in photo shoot. It’s a little weird to me.

...
Anchorman Zoolander….was it Blue Steel?? He hasn’t perfected it yet but its coming.
And we should probably stop with Lache, like I said he is doing his best… Hope if he reads this he knows we are J/K… Cause it would be sweet for him to come here.

Seastrunk
I want him to come to Texas, but I just think its weird how he’s posing in all of the pictures I see of him.

His photo look always looks like a scowl. Way to be tough, kiddo.

have you seen tevin jackson’s? every kid has a serious/scowl face, smiles and grins are the exception.
people need to stop nitpicking what this kid is doing and let him do his own thing, i completely agree with him that people make up their minds and judge him on absolutely nothing… it’s weird that he’s posing in his pictures? that’s what you do when you’re photographed, seriously? we’re nitpicking how he is in pictures?
he’ll go where he goes, people need to stop tearing down 18 year olds for their decisions and realize they’re just kids.

I kind of wish they’d realize that themselves. They’re kids. Not much reason to scowl.

With his senior year approaching, Temple is feverish with excitement.
I attended T-High and can assure you that his ego is being mercilessly fed by the school and city. Temple still has just one high school (supposedly due to the politics of football) and hasn’t seen talent of this potential since Ramonce was kicked out of TISD in 8th grade. You may be right that he’s a potential problem, but I hope Lache is able to keep his head on straight through his final year and make a wise decision.

Speaking of Locker Room Cancer
One of my fave analogie. Cobbs had his Anchorman moment in the article as well he said something like:
“things got real busy with phone calls and recruiting stuff, so I have got to realize I am kindof a big deal.”
I imagine that at some point every recruit has revealed some ego. Fun stuff.

Get off Seastrunk's back
I don’t really think its fair for people to be labeling Seastrunk a potential locker room cancer just for failing to commit early. If I were in his shoes and even assuming I had already chosen my school I would play out the recruiting process. How many chances does someone get in their life to be wooed by the top programs in the country and all the perks that includes (particularly the recruiting hostesses, especially from an 18 year old’s point of view). Its really not a tough decision in my eyes. Get to travel to Georgia and LSU and USC and all those schools and have them treat me like a king or commit somewhere early and miss out on all that? No brainer. I’m actually kind of surprised we get so many early commits as it is.
by hodad on Mar 16, 2009 10:47 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
We have no basis for giving him this label. Sure I wish he’d choose right now. But lets face it, hes a top5 national recruit. Those kinds of guys don’t make it easy. Your expected to make it dramatic, it makes money for the recuitniks and a lot of these guys are trying to parlay the HS hype into eventual NFL dollars.
I’d be glad to have him on campus. Sometimes you need guys with charisma that think they’re the shit. (VY anyone?) We have lots of “yes coach, sorry coach” guys on the team. You need some attitude on your team too…in moderation.

Befuddled!?!
Nobody is mad at him for not committing early, do not know where you read that???? I think we are more learned than that. Again, my assumptions are based on what he has said during interviews. If you read more critically you will also see that each time have said something critical of em I have made that caveat.

Spoken like a person who has difficulty making choices. We all have been on Bon enough to know that Mack wants the kids that “want” to be here. Team chemistry is as important as running a 4.3/40. Hell, Mack was listening to rap on his iPod in 2005. Aside from having superman as your QB, that team also had amazing relationships in the locker room. Early reports are that several players that have already committed have started friendships with one another and that can only be seen as a positive. I’m not sure if Seastrunk has a flawed character or not, but in the end is it really our call to make? Mack will make the call on this kid based on what he sees inside his character.

Seastrunk can only make us a better team
If he turns out to be a “cancer” Mack will put him on the bench. And Cedric benson was a total dick but he produced big time.

Charles and Finley
were considered tumorous and they starred on perhaps the most underachieving Texas team to date.

Yeah,
but didn’t you hear the comments made occasionally by the 2008 team re: the 2007 team? How some people were more concerned about their NFL stock than the team?

Where did you see that?
totally believe it though.

Okay but it just seems like a lot of fans are saying
Fan: Be a longhorn!
LS: Maybe…maybe not…Im gods gift to football
Fan: What?! Well then forget it! We don’t want/need you anyways! (runs off and pouts)

Seastrunk
seems like the prototypical type of back Greg Davis has been wanting. Yesterday, I watched the Rose Bowl v USC (I still need to purchase a copy of that game) on ESPN Classic, and seeing us w/ Taylor, Charles, & Selvin Young running the ball made me think about what Davis wanted out of the rb position & what I’ve heard about Seastrunk. Seems like everything Davis wants. Seems like everything the position, in that scheme, needs. Makes me want to see him in burnt orange. All that changes, though, if his head’s not on right when he steps on campus, & that goes for anybody. Having not seen these interviews, would somebody please link or at least paraphrase a little more accurately?

oh, and Hicks
I’ll be very interested to see if we get him. I’m certainly hoping so. Makes me wish we had won bigger in the Fiesta Bowl.

On The "T.O. Effect" As Relating To Seastrunk
So there has been much ado regarding LS and his attitude. Granted, I have not seen any interview footage or heard any real verifiable account of his conduct or demeanor.
Generally, however- how many truly elite seventeen year old skill position players are old there in the world that do not generally think highly (perhaps even arrogantly) of themselves or their ability to dominate on the field?
Furthermore, how many seventeen year olds are not generally a little bit arrogant? Come on, now…
Granted, he may be a dickhead. If that’s the case, then he probably doesn’t have a place on the team. But my point is- if he’s a little cocky, then what were you expecting, exactly?
