Baseball Takes on Texas Tech
It'll be Texas vs. Texas Tech as the Horns look to get back on track in Big XII play. Last weekend was...not the best. Some things to think about this weekend:
- Kevin Keyes is swinging an insanely hot bat since being sat two weekends ago. Let's keep that up.
- Brandon Loy to SS appears to be permanent for the time being. He plays great defensively and is starting to swing the bat again.
- The offense. C'mon guys, score some runs.

Woohoo! Baseball!
Is it too much to ask for a baseball sweep of Tech and a national championship in swimming/diving this weekend?
Thanks for the updates, Texas Wahoo
Glad to see the bats woke up
Box score says 9-5 final with Wood giving up one run.
Tech had 5 errors…yikes.
I heard Augie on the radio the other day
He said that he employs “total offense” in baseball, so that the players don’t put so much pressure on themselves to get a hit. He wants to make hitting a smaller part of the offense (at least in the players minds) so that they can focus on what they’re doing and not just getting a hit. Makes sense, zen master. Very cool to have him as our coach.
2 big innings
The 5 run third inning and a 4 run seventh inning did the trick. The third inning was exactly what we’ve all been pining for: three hits to start the inning and then a gapper by Cameron Rupp to get a big crooked number on the board. The seventh inning was nice for Texas, but had to be agonizing for Tech fans. It seemed like the Horns never got the ball out of the infield, but a folly of Red Raider errors allowed another big inning.
Not a great night for Chance Ruffin, but luckily he was helped by the bats and Austin Wood. Wood came in and got the last seven outs fairly quietly, scattering a few hits and giving up a who-cares run in the ninth.
All in all, a nice win to get back on track in Big 12 play. Game 2 starts at 2 pm this afternoon.
