Sooner recruit in trouble
From CollegeFootballNews.com....
* Oklahoma recruit Justin Chaisson, a defensive end out of Las Vegas, is on the defensive after being charged with four felony counts: coercion by force, assault with a deadly weapon, coercion with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment to avoid arrest. Chaisson allegedly punched his girlfriend in the ribs and placed a screwdriver to her neck and threatened to kill her. Violent charges like these are no laughing matter - Chaisson and the Sooners could really be screwed.

if he is just a recruit...
how does this hurt the ou program? has he stepped on campus yet or practiced with the team? it sucks for him that he’s probably not going to play football but since he associated himself with ou then he was gonna get the suck eventually

It hurts the ou program because
OU recruited him to fill a spot, and now he can’t do it. In addition, he was a top-notch recruit—6.0 on the Rivals scale, #73 on the 100, the 4th highest ranked recruit in their class, the 1st highest ranked DE in their class, etc. It hurts the sooners because he is good and they need him.

Sucks for him?
What about the girl he punched in the ribs and threatened?! I have NO sympathy for this guy. I hope he doesn’t get to play football. I hope he goes to jail.

Dre Jones
It will hurt ou like the loss of Dre Jones hurt Texas. The DT position is VERY thin right now at UT.

Machine Guns at the Men's Athletic Dorms
Sounds a lot like a story I seem to recall from another age, from ole’ Barry’s days …
I’m not laughing much, but it doesn’t sound incongruent w/ ou’s history at all – I mean that in all seriousness.

You forgot to mention the gang rape and the qb that was charged with drug distribution (or something along those lines). Both the qb and Switzer made the cover of SI for this. Switzer’s program was out of control and he was finally fired. The amazing thing is that they still love him in Norman. He won a lot, but when you think of the damage to the program’s reputation… no one up there seems to care.

Apparently not enough people elsewhere care, either. OU is still a big draw, gets a lot of darling treatment, and draws big-time recruits. That program should’ve received the NCAA “death penalty,” but of course they received a slap on the wrist. USC, for all their systemic violations, have been much cleaner than OU, but the NCAA isn’t willing to penalize either.
This is another reason I love Texas. Taking the high road is harder and doesn’t always translate into the most success, at least not in the short term, but taking the high road and still being a perennial contender is something that should make every Texas fan and player proud.

This. Its why I love the Texas Longhorns.

don't break your arm patting yourself on the back
letting ricky williams consume marijuana isn’t exactly “taking the high road”

Nice pun, BG, but does marijuana use actually concern you? As far as I’m concerned, it should be legal. I don’t partake in it because of my job, but I would if it were legal and allowed by my job. You have the name of one drug, alcohol, in your own username, so it’s kind of funny to see you condemning a drug that is no more harmful.

to be fair
Switzer was the coach at OU 20 years ago. Today’s recruits don’t even know who he is.
People love Switzer for the same reason Nebraskans love Tom Osborne; plain and simple, he won.
When you’re located in a state that doesn’t give you much to be proud of (Oklahoma can brag about Indian casinos, Nebraska brags about corn), having a winning football program to hang your hat on and associate yourself with can mean a lot.
There is a segment of the Sooner and Cornhusker fanbases (not the whole fanbase in general, but a sizable segment) that really isn’t that much different from your local high school football fan. They may not have attended that school, they may only support it by buying tickets to games, but their association with that program gives them a portion of their self-worth.

At Texas
thank goodness all we have to worry about are backpacks of marijuana, boat drinks, and late night runins at Taco C.
