Around SBN: Hugh Douglas Admits To Stealing From Jaguars

Longhorn center Dexter Pittman has announced a press conference scheduled for Wednesday at 3:45 pm CT. Sources close to the program indicate that he will return for his senior season, but the possibility obviously exists that Pittman could jump to the NBA. Pittman could also submit his name for the draft without hiring an agent.

Update: As mentioned below, Pittman will return for his senior season.

He better be coming back....

and from what it sounds like, he is!

I will laugh if he goes pro

seriously, who (besides unethical agents) would advise him to go pro? He isn’t even a full-time college starter yet.

He has too much work to do on his game (and his conditioning) before he even thinks about playing in the NBA.

I could see him wanting to check his status, though; hell, if a marginal NBA talent like Abrams can do that, Pittman is entitled to do it, too.

I could see that happening to Damion James if he leaves this year.

Marginal wings have trouble doing much in the NBA. The three is a scoring position and if you can’t do it well and consistently it takes a while to find a niche. Fortunately for Wright, the Mavs are in a bad enough spot that Wright and Gerald Green ended up in their rotation.

Thanks for the insight beergut.......

The marginal NBA talent like Abrams or Acie Law(marginal NBA player at best, but best atm player in history) can test the water. However, Dex will be more than a marginal NBA player and can test the draft if he wants since he could actually be drafted early (unlike good ol’ Acie Law).
Dude, don’t be jealous b/c atm’s best player SUCKS in the NBA and wasn’t that good in college.

what does being in the starting lineup have anything to do with being a good player? Look at Ed Davis from North Carolina? That guys a first round draft pick for sure

Marvin Williams on the 2005 UNC team

He played sparingly throughout the year (certainly didn’t start) and ended up being the #3 draft pick if I recall.

Bogut, Williams, Deron Williams, Chris Paul…Think Milwaukee and Atlanta want a do-over?

The important thing is to not get too caught up in what he says tomorrow ...

IF he says he’s putting his name in.

It does not automatically mean that he’s hiring an agent, and it does not mean that he thinks he’s ready to play in the NBA right now. I read far too much criticism of AJ Abrams from the mainstream media last season when he made the decision to test the waters. I thought it was perfectly harmless, even though I did question the timing of his announcement because of DJ Augustin. I think any junior with NBA ambitions would be smart to get all the advice they can from the people who matter most, i.e. those who will be making the decisions on draft day. They can work out for as many teams as will have them on someone else’s dime and get insight from experts on their strengths, weaknesses, and likelihood of getting drafted this year, next year, or whenever. Even people who are 100% positive they want to return to school could do worse than to take advantage of that opportunity. As long as you go into it with reasonable expectations, I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.

In Dex’s case, testing the waters can only help Texas. I think a lot of teams would like to see Dex work out, just to see where he is at this stage. If they make recommendations to him on where he needs to improve and he comes back and works hard to make those improvements to his game, it makes Texas a better team and Dex a higher draft pick next year.

That’s not to say that it would hurt my feelings for him to just get it out of the way tomorrow and announce that he’s staying. There are obvious benefits to not having to deal with it for another 2.5 months. But it won’t bother me at all if he decides to throw his name in, as long as he keeps a level head about it and avoids any delusions of grandeur about his current draftability.

Good points!

needs another year to trim down and improve all aspects

I say this every year.

I think every junior in the country should go ahead and put thier name in without hiring an agent. Worst case, no attention, best case, find out your a likely lottery pick. Most likely, find out what you need to work on.

What if James Henry decided bitches didn’t need to be kicked?

Pittman expected to return

Doesn’t look like much suspense here:

The fact that UT called for the press conference instead of the player was a big tip-off too that Dexy is coming back

Too funny....
He did open his conference with a little fooling around. "I just came out of a meeting with coach Mack Brown," Pittman said. "He told me that I could take Brian Orakpo’s place but he told me I had to gain 50 pounds."
