Clemson staff picks Mack's brain
http://clemson.scout.com/2/844011.html
Free article that mentions Dabo Swinney and his entire staff visited campus earlier this week to learn how Mack and Co. do things. The third and fourth paragraphs of Swinney's opening comments talk about the visit, and there is a question toward the end where he addresses it further. Just thought it was interesting. Swinney says the only difference between Texas and Clemson is that Texas believes it can be great.

I don't know about that...
While it is true that we believe that we can be great, that is not the only difference between us and Clemson: More players in the NFL, more national championships, and less difficulty retaining homegrown talent. Recruiting the southeast is difficult, although that isn’t their fault.
Not that Clemson is a bad program, they are indeed a good program, but not identical to Texas save for our self-confidence.

I think the fact that their coach came to learn from ours makes it pretty obvious which program is supreme...
Swinney was simply spinning his field trip into a positive for his program. He sounds like he would be a good coach, the kind of guy a team can rally around, whether or not thats true remains to be seen.

And most of Texas’ players can put together a sentence with more than four words.

Not saying I agree with him
I think there are many differences between Texas and Clemson, but he sort of has to say that. He’s trying to build some confidence in his players and fan base that Clemson can be an elite program and that he’s the guy to make them an elite program.
More importantly, I think it says a ton about Mack and our program that another BCS coach is knocking on our door wanting to learn how it’s done and aspiring to have the same kind of success. I also wonder how many other coaches would have welcomed in another coaching staff with open arms for such a purpose.

unless they leave the ACC for the Sun Belt
I don’t see Mack or DeLoss adding them to the Non-Con schedule

ACC and Big 12 don't have a bowl tie-in together, I don't think.
It would have to be in a BCS game.

Gator Bowl..and a BCS game is still a bowl. So yes, Clemson and Texas could meet

I doubt Mack gave them the launch codes....
He did a similar thing with Penn State’s staff when they wanted to see how to best utilize a running (dual/threat) qb. Coaches at this level do these kind of things all the time.

Clemson is neither.....
……..alphabet soup, nor rice.
There is no fear of Clemson making our OOC schedule.

never say never
Step 1: Dabo Swinney runs Clemson into the ground
Step 2: Bob Stoops leaves OU for A) ill-fated NFL coaching gig, B) massive recruiting violations, and/or C) losing booster support due to secret communications and strange transfer candidates
Step 3: Mack and DeLoss decide taking 12th best ACC team for OOC game not such a bad idea, sign up for a home and home with the Tigers in 2016-17
Step 4: Stoops announced as new Clemson head coach starting in 2016 season
Step 5: New Texas head coach Will Muschamp decries paltry scheduling as decisions made by prior regime, promises to play USC, Ohio State, Arkansas and Florida State as his non-con schedule every year
Step 6: Texas OOC schedule so strong, they make National Championship game whether losing 0, 1 or 2 games.
Step 7: BCS computers implode, commissioners have no idea what to do, declare Texas National Champions every year
It could happen.

I fully expect to .......
…… read of just such a change in scheduling philosophy.

Does anyone else think...
Bob Stoops visited tOSU to learn a little about pre-bowl practice and how to handle the media after yet another embarassing loss?

lol
Only difference is Texas is the 2nd biggest state in the country. South Carolina is the 40th, and plays second fiddle within that state.

I don't know if you can say Clemson plays second fiddle in that state
When I was there, it was at least 50-50

Now that Spurrier’s there and Clemson has gone through this recent rockiness, I think the scales have tipped in SC’s favor.

yeah...I have to live in the 40th biggest state
Clemson does play second fiddle with most, but are clearly a better program, not biting on old coaches who don’t know how to outcoach other teams anymore…Man I wish I lived in Texas again :(
