This and $6.95...
will buy you a cup of coffee at Starbuck's. With Texas toeing the NCAA commit limit in the 2010 recruiting class some recruits are beginning to show their colors. As my title initimates any real finality is atleast 11 months away but atleast some credence could be given to my speculation on these matters.
First up is Demarco Cobbs. Brown and Co. may not even be courting this young man anymore. Last weekend Cobbs was scheduled to attend Junior Day but was a no-call no-show. Cobbs later said that his ride--his former coach, now AD, had a last second commitment. It is believable, Cobbs does appear to be a man of limited resources, however it does not explain the no-call. Hopefully there is a good explanation for this snub that I have not come across yet, I have been looking for a week. Ofcourse then he said this. (Said USC is his No 1, said it this weekend.) If Cobbs does not visit campus soon the sun may set on his possibilities at Texas, if it hasn't already.
Let's talk Matthews. It was first speculated that Texas might not recruit the Oline this year, then came Trey Hopkins, then Espinosa and then Matthews. Matthews is the son of former Oiler great Bruce Matthews. Matthews was on campus just prior to the last junior day. While taking in the first practice it has been said that Matthews' father was not very enthusiastic about Texas blocking schemes or drills. Matthews goes somewhere without the spread, and that is elsewhere.
Seastrunk. I have to say that Seastrunk looks every bit the 5star talent he is supposed to be. But after having listened to several of his interviews I must preface my post by saying that he has lockerroom cancer written all over him. Right now all signs point everywhere but Austin. In many of his quasi-public appearances Seastrunk has repetitively sported USC attire. Seastrunk's cousin (not sure if they are really cousins or if that is a term of endearment from Lache) currently plays for LSU and Seastrunk has said he wants to go to school with some friends, namely Trovon Reed (also a Texas Offer.) Pair this with our taking Blue chipper RB Shead and I think Texas is not in the cards.
Nelson. Corey Nelson has not been to warm on Texas. With Texas already having two LB commitments in the books and things looking good for Hicks' recruitment (.....then there is his famous horns down incident....) Nelson does not go to Texas.
Reggie Wilson. Wilson's coach has said that Wilson is close to making his decision and Texas is among the top five. All the boards have Wilson as a Texas lean. He will make a decision before his spring ball ends. Wilson wears Burnt Orange in college.
Adrian White is scheduled to announce his decision this friday on Geoff Ketchum's radio show. Ketchum is on record saying that Texas has a silent commit and many are speculating that White is it. White is on the Forty next Spring, I'm calling it.
As much as people think it is, we are better off without Seastrunk. Cobbs is the biggest loss, IMO. I am not sold on needing Matthews either. I would really like to get Darius White. In Cobbs' stead Deandrew White would be an amazing addition. The kid was crushed not getting an offer last weekend, but I thinkTexas ges an auto commit here if they offer.
These recruits are kids and are allowed to make mistakes. It is difficult for them to handle their celebrity. I acknowledge that.
Lastly, I want to apologize to the swim enthusiasts for my having fun at their expense. Swimming is an important sport and Texas is awesome at it. I'm just sayin..

Great breakdown.
If we can round out this class with Wilson, White, White, Hicks commitments I’d predict we’d end up top 2 in most rankings (for whatever that’s worth). What I had read about D. White didn’t have me all that excited but I came across this film
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m09_sysJXC0
the other day and he subsequently immediately shot up near the top of my wish list.

he reminds me of...
So I’ve watched the film a handful of times and every time I watch it I get this feeling that he looks just like someone who I have watched on the field before – so I ran through the usual suspects of 6’3+ receivers- randy moss, roy williams, larry fitz, braylon edwards etc. and none of them were quite it but I think that it is actually….. wait for it…… reggie bush. granted, darius is a 6’3 monster but there’s something about his gait that is quite bushesque, and I notice it especially at about the 1:22 and the 3:25 mark.
I’ve always felt that receiving and returning were the best parts of bush’s game so if you were to put that skill set on a 6’3 frame that evidently dominates in jumpball/fade situations you got one bad man.
I could be way off and others may wholeheartedly disagree on this but it’s what i see.

Probably no DeAndrew White
because he apparently has grade issues and he is almost the same player as Chris Jones, with both of them shooting up the latest LSR, particularly Jones.
I’m not as pessimistic on Cobbs as you are because it is a legitimate transportation issue, though I can’t explain the lack of a call. He still wants to make it down and the spring game might be an even better time for him.
Seastrunk and Nelson I’ve just about written off. Agree about Seastrunk’s attitude, which doesn’t seem awful, but enough to raise some red flags. If the Longhorns can use guys like DeSean Hales and Chris Jones as their version of Percy Harvin, they probably don’t need Seastrunk that much. Shead has nothing to do with Seastrunk’s commitment, as he’s a different style back and was offered to make sure there is a running back in the class if Seastrunk goes elsewhere.
Darius White is the real damn deal. He is a top priority and is the type of guy to put the class and recruitment at the position over the top.
I think you probably mean Matthews will go somewhere without the spread. Bruce may like Sherman’s pro-style scheme in College Station, though it seemed like the Aggies went a little more spread at the end of the year. They may actually have a strong shot at Jake, though I think USC is probably the leader. I may be wrong on the Aggie offense and if I am, wouldn’t it be nice if Beergut were around to be helpful for once. I won’t hold out hope…

Connor Wood?
Didn’t Seastrunk also say the same thing about Wood that he did about Reed? Not that I’m optimistic on this one, but I’m pretty sure I read that as well.

Darius White
What about this kid? What are Texas’ chances?

He sounded like a lock in the fall
but then started getting a ton of national attention and has now slowed the process down because he can go anywhere he wants.

Hard to say..
There has not been much coming from him. Some were speculating that he would commit on JR day. If I had to guess, if he had to choose today it would be Texas. It is possible that with two more commits this week he may go ahead and commit before we reach 25 to be safe. But the coaches have told him to take his time.

Darius White is the FW Dunbar kid, right?
What happened to the 2 other guys from FW Dunbar? Ketch said that they all 3 wanted to go to Texas early on. I didn’t know what happened to Favors and the other guy. I think Favors wanted to play a different position than we wanted him to play and I forgot about the other guy.
Also, what about the Skyline kid Mike Davis? Why did we not offer and let him slip to LSU? I heard he was a stud.

I am speculating
But i think a big reason White did not commit was because we did not offer his buds. I think part of the deal with White is that he may be realizing that it is not possible for them all to be happy and play at the same school.
