NFL Draft Open Thread

***UPDATE***  Texas DE Brian Orakpo was selected 13th in the NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins.  Good Luck Brian!

The NFL Draft is on today at 3:00 central on ESPN.  Personally, I love watching the draft every year.  While much of the drama is gone, since the Lions have already signed interception machine Matt Stafford as the #1 pick, the draft still gives us a little taste of football in April  Who can forget watching Brady Quinn get snubbed by team after team?    Matt Stafford is a talent, he can break plates with the best of 'em.  Here's hoping Rak ends up in a good situation with a good team and a good coach.  JC25 did a great job of summarizing where Rak might end up....

Orakpo

I pray that he goes to San Francisco

Ian Johnson gets on one knee.
Sam Bradford gets on both.

As a niner fan...

I’m disappointed that we didn’t get Orakpo, but we did get crabtree. How ironic, the player then messed up my longhorn’s season happens to be who will be vital to my Niners doing well on offense.

srsly...

I wouldn’t have gone to NY considering the place many had him pegged to go. Prob. down to 2nd round.

Nice pick........

--- All roads to the Big-XII Championship lead through OU/RRS. It's not just another game! We're all about championships here. ---

?

Do you mean nice pick by the Bucs? or

Do you mean that I look dumb now that I said he would drop to the 2nd round?

If it’s the latter, I don’t think it was that much of a stretch to think Freeman would fall. Evidently, although Gruden was canned, the collection of QB’s continues.

by vy til i die on Apr 25, 2009 9:48 PM CDT up reply actions

They need serious help along the line and a running game or he will be running for his life.

by NeTexHorn on Apr 25, 2009 3:15 PM CDT reply actions

agreed.

Is this the first year that the draft has been carried on NFL Network?

by NeTexHorn on Apr 25, 2009 3:22 PM CDT reply actions

yup...

..it reminds me of people w/ the Spurs. It’s really confusing (I’m a Spurs fan) why they get off the hook w/ some of these picks.

by vy til i die on Apr 25, 2009 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Crabtree falling?

Many in the South Plains had him pegged for Seattle. I guess Cleveland could get him if they really do want to trade Edwards.

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 3:38 PM CDT reply actions

Gotta love the Bungles...

Taking a guy with a history of laziness… It’s almost like they enjoy having headcases.

This. Will. Not. End. Well.

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 3:51 PM CDT reply actions

Andre Smith to the Bengals...

..I guess the mishap at the Combine didn’t affect him that much…what a tub of lard.

by vy til i die on Apr 25, 2009 3:52 PM CDT reply actions

yeah

don’t you love that every analyst was like, oh he’s just immature, ignore his offseason behavior. Haha and of all teams to go to, he goes to a team of dysfunction, AMAZING

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 3:53 PM CDT reply actions

I think that

picture was after he was hit with a cannonball. Homer Simpson style

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 3:54 PM CDT reply actions

i think Brady Quinn is getting traded...

The Browns brought in another QB in the trade with the Jets (Brett Ratliff).

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 3:56 PM CDT reply actions

WOW...

I don’t even know what to say…

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 3:57 PM CDT reply actions

Ha

ESPN grades them out at F, YOU LOSE RAIDERS!

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 3:58 PM CDT reply actions

crabtree will be like Adrian Peterson.

In a year we will all be wondering how so many teams passed on him.

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:01 PM CDT reply actions

Ha

and they said this draft would be boring, thank you Al Davis!!!

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 4:03 PM CDT reply actions

And

the OL parade continues….

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 4:06 PM CDT reply actions

And so could Crabtree

Both San Fran and Buffalo have D needs, they won’t take Crabtree, and GB will probably take Raji

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 4:08 PM CDT reply actions

I grew up a Niners fan.

I’d love to see them get Crabtree.

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:10 PM CDT reply actions

I'd be pissed if the 49ers got Crabtree!

Who would you rather have? Crabtree or Roy Williams?

by SneezyBeltran on Apr 25, 2009 4:11 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah

couldn’t you see Crabtree just dominate the NFC West, what good corners exist in that division?

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 4:13 PM CDT reply actions

10th pick: San Fran on the clock

Crabtree, Orakpo, Maclin, Pettigrew. All still there.

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:15 PM CDT reply actions

uh oh

Crabtree is on the phone…

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 4:19 PM CDT reply actions

Now RAK is dropping...

Aaron Maybin passes up Orakpo in the pecking order.

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:28 PM CDT reply actions

OH WOW

Moreno to Denver, where does Orakpo fall now?

by goingforthecorner on Apr 25, 2009 4:32 PM CDT reply actions

Whoa. Isn't it the Bronco's that always turn a 6th rounder into an All pro Back?

Surprised to see Moreno go this high. Wow, I guess you wanted to help Kyle Orton out….

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:33 PM CDT reply actions

YES.

O-rakpo goes to the SKINS!!

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:33 PM CDT reply actions

damn

I cant root for the redskins….damn

by HookEm14 on Apr 25, 2009 4:33 PM CDT reply actions

I'm scared now that

Flozell Adams gets to face him twice a year

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 4:35 PM CDT reply actions

Ahh, Jersey Trash Cushing. Sorry about that, Texans fans. At least you’re not Chiefs fans. Our team wasted the #3-overall pick on a guy who didn’t even have much of an impact as a power end in a college 4-3, and are counting on him to justify said pick as a 3-4 5-technique end in the NFL. Sadpalmface.

by burntorangehorn on Apr 25, 2009 6:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Not liking the Cushing pick....

They had to go defense, I would have taken Ayers from Tennessee. This guy has too many injury issues….

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:47 PM CDT reply actions

SD

will take Beanie Wells

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 4:48 PM CDT reply actions

Wells just seems slow. He and Sproles compliment each other

But I don’t see Wells being a good pro (I know im in the minority there)

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:51 PM CDT up reply actions

If San Diego takes Maclin, then holy f^$%

With Gates, Sproles, LT, Rivers, Vincent Jackson and Maclin. (and Chris Chambers)

That;s a crazy offense….

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:50 PM CDT reply actions

haha its no

Raider offense, go Darious Haywood-Bey! I swear they’ll be unstoppable…

by Houstonhorn on Apr 25, 2009 4:51 PM CDT reply actions

The guy had 42 catches for 609 yards.... IN THE ACC

Against Clemson: 0 catches for 0 yards
Against Eastern Michigan: 3 catches for 31 yards.
Against Florida State: 3 catches for 22 yards.

He went #7 in the NFL Draft.

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 4:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Eagles trade up with Cleveland and get Jeremy Maclin

Great pick.., the guys gonna be great with McNabb, Desean Jackson, and Westbrook.

by the1austin on Apr 25, 2009 5:14 PM CDT reply actions

Bad draft so far for Cowboys fans

Gotta face Rak and Maclin multiple times every year, and you can bet the Giants make a smart pick.

If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!

by circa1015 on Apr 25, 2009 5:16 PM CDT reply actions

quick thoughts

wow the broncos have like 17 running backs now right?

Bey from Maryland isnt that bad of a pick, but certainly not top 10 material.

Crabtree wont be as good as everyone thinks he will be.. dude is slow and is injury prone

why does stephen mcgee even have the prospect of being drafted? he threw like 40 collegiate passes

this is one of the weakest draft classes ive seen in about 5 years

by greenspointexas on Apr 25, 2009 7:23 PM CDT reply actions

I laughed

Stephen McGee is rated higher than Harrell on the Scouts inc. draft board for QBs

ESPN has a camera on Quan with Bill Cosby watching the draft...

Are they related? What gives? You’re telling me that we heard the McCoy/Ship/Roommate/Father/Abilene Christian storyline 345 times but never once that Quan and Bill Cosby have some weird bromance?

BTW Congrats to Roy Miller, Taken 17th in the 3rd Round to the Bucs.

Tech has 3 players taken. We have 2.

Compare UT's picks next year to Tech's next year.

The talent drain on Tech was absurd. UT was relatively unscathed

Is anybody watching the Quan/Bill Cosby interview with Erin Andrews

This is a strange section. Cosby is wearing a Temple football helmet and giving Erin Andrews life advice. Quan is just sitting there… kinda chuckling…

Cincinnati got a good pick with Coffman

by NeTexHorn on Apr 26, 2009 11:09 AM CDT reply actions

I thought the Pats would somehow get him...

An absolute steal late in the 3rd, almost too smart a pick for Cinci….

by the1austin on Apr 26, 2009 11:15 AM CDT up reply actions

No doubt. Cinci is almost as bad a place to go as Oakland or Detroit

Melton moving to DE was a good thing

He gets drafted early in the 4th by the Chicago Bears (105th overall).

Just noticed Mike Williams signed a 1-year deal with the Skins

remember reading on the statesman I think it was how he was hoping for a comeback. he was living with derrick dockery already and training with him so the skins are giving him a shot. hopefully he gets his career on track.

3/19/2009 - Dogus Balbay Made a Three-Pointer. Never Forget.

by burrito on Apr 26, 2009 1:15 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, John Clayton was talking about how Buffalo avoided Orakpo because UT players have not

worked out for them (Dockery, Williams), but that Washington loves UT guys (Dockery, WIlliams, and now O-RAK).

Excerpt:

The ghosts of Mike Williams and other former Texas players had a major impact in the middle of the first round. Williams, the former No. 1 pick, was a huge bust in Buffalo. Despite that, the Bills spent $8 million a year for guard Derrick Dockery, another Texas product. He was released in the offseason. So the Bills decided not to take Texas linebacker Brian Orakpo at No. 11 because of the Texas Two-Step disaster. Meanwhile, the Washington Redskins said: “Come on down!” They drafted Orakpo and signed Dockery and Williams. The Redskins are hooked on the Longhorns.

Anyone know where you can find info over the next couple of days on guys that went undrafted but will still get picked up by teams? Thought a kid from Texas State, Cameron Luke, WR would maybe get looked at as one of these guys
