NFL Draft Open Thread
***UPDATE*** Texas DE Brian Orakpo was selected 13th in the NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. Good Luck Brian!
The NFL Draft is on today at 3:00 central on ESPN. Personally, I love watching the draft every year. While much of the drama is gone, since the Lions have already signed interception machine Matt Stafford as the #1 pick, the draft still gives us a little taste of football in April Who can forget watching Brady Quinn get snubbed by team after team? Matt Stafford is a talent, he can break plates with the best of 'em. Here's hoping Rak ends up in a good situation with a good team and a good coach. JC25 did a great job of summarizing where Rak might end up....

Orakpo
I pray that he goes to San Francisco
Ian Johnson gets on one knee.
Sam Bradford gets on both.
As a niner fan...
I’m disappointed that we didn’t get Orakpo, but we did get crabtree. How ironic, the player then messed up my longhorn’s season happens to be who will be vital to my Niners doing well on offense.
TEXAS FIGHT
srsly...
I wouldn’t have gone to NY considering the place many had him pegged to go. Prob. down to 2nd round.

Nice pick........
--- All roads to the Big-XII Championship lead through OU/RRS. It's not just another game! We're all about championships here. ---
?
Do you mean nice pick by the Bucs? or
Do you mean that I look dumb now that I said he would drop to the 2nd round?
If it’s the latter, I don’t think it was that much of a stretch to think Freeman would fall. Evidently, although Gruden was canned, the collection of QB’s continues.

jason smith is ok. the rams need OL. but baylor isnt exactly ideal for drafting star studs out of...

Roy Miller
is the #5 rated dt on Kiper’s list yet we’re talking 2nd day for him?
If anyone other than Pioli/Belichick makes that pick, everyone laughs.
I guess it must be the Russell Maryland theorem.

yup...
..it reminds me of people w/ the Spurs. It’s really confusing (I’m a Spurs fan) why they get off the hook w/ some of these picks.

Yea no doubt. Craig is keeping everyone updated on the draft picks during baseball game
Love to hear him say Orakpo
Crabtree falling?
Many in the South Plains had him pegged for Seattle. I guess Cleveland could get him if they really do want to trade Edwards.
I can't wait: In 10 years we will be watching the replay of this moment
In a montage called: Jet’s Draft Mistakes
ha Rhett Bomar
is now the 4th best qb in the draft
you mean MEshawn...throw me the damn ball!.nt

I can't believe they swapped him out for Michael Irvin...
Steve Young is just dumb and boring

Gotta love the Bungles...
Taking a guy with a history of laziness… It’s almost like they enjoy having headcases.
This. Will. Not. End. Well.
Andre Smith to the Bengals...
..I guess the mishap at the Combine didn’t affect him that much…what a tub of lard.
yeah
don’t you love that every analyst was like, oh he’s just immature, ignore his offseason behavior. Haha and of all teams to go to, he goes to a team of dysfunction, AMAZING
I think that
picture was after he was hit with a cannonball. Homer Simpson style
i think Brady Quinn is getting traded...
The Browns brought in another QB in the trade with the Jets (Brett Ratliff).
Ha
ESPN grades them out at F, YOU LOSE RAIDERS!
..and Art Shell..and Norv Turner...and Bill Callaghan...
..but not Tom Cable

crabtree will be like Adrian Peterson.
In a year we will all be wondering how so many teams passed on him.
Ha
and they said this draft would be boring, thank you Al Davis!!!
That isn't taking a 3-4 end with the 3rd overall pick

and well Al Davis just missed!

Yeah, but you expect idiocy in oakland
Not desperation from Pioli

And so could Crabtree
Both San Fran and Buffalo have D needs, they won’t take Crabtree, and GB will probably take Raji
Yeah
couldn’t you see Crabtree just dominate the NFC West, what good corners exist in that division?
The guys at DoubleTnation are saying that some teams thought Crab was a "Diva"
And his attitude turned some teams off. I thought being cocky was a pre-req to being a good NFL receiver?
Any time you get compared to ocho-cinco before you even start your PRO career....it's not gonna be a good start.
i was gonna say that...

I'm on the Texans SB Nation blog
we’re ALL praying Orakpo falls to us, but I’m still doubtful.

assuming he goes out of bounds FTL

is going to live on for YEARS…might as well swallow that pill now
aw shucks...
..I was hoping for Holly Rowe…

OH WOW
Moreno to Denver, where does Orakpo fall now?
by goingforthecorner on Apr 25, 2009 4:32 PM CDT reply actions
Whoa. Isn't it the Bronco's that always turn a 6th rounder into an All pro Back?
Surprised to see Moreno go this high. Wow, I guess you wanted to help Kyle Orton out….
Im not a Skins fan, Im just happy to see him go to a team
that plays on regular tv. I’ll get to see him play.
ugh.....I don't want one of my fav players to go to was

I'm scared now that
Flozell Adams gets to face him twice a year
Great place for 'Rak to land with Haynesworth in the middle and him on the outside.
Beastly.
Oh and don’t forget about Jason Taylor helping him out. (I think Taylor is still with the ’Skins, at least)
Yeah, Haynesworth and Rak are two nice additions.
With LaRon Landry, the have some nice pieces there.
Ha! I love that Rak singlehandedly knocked Loadholt out of the 1st
Remember he was a first rounder before the RRS? Afterwards he was a second day pick.

Skins Blog pumped about RAK. Shocked he was still there……
Ahh, Jersey Trash Cushing. Sorry about that, Texans fans. At least you’re not Chiefs fans. Our team wasted the #3-overall pick on a guy who didn’t even have much of an impact as a power end in a college 4-3, and are counting on him to justify said pick as a 3-4 5-technique end in the NFL. Sadpalmface.
by burntorangehorn on Apr 25, 2009 6:08 PM CDT up reply actions
Ha
Is that Brian Bosworth’s illegitimate son?
Not liking the Cushing pick....
They had to go defense, I would have taken Ayers from Tennessee. This guy has too many injury issues….
Wells just seems slow. He and Sproles compliment each other
But I don’t see Wells being a good pro (I know im in the minority there)
If San Diego takes Maclin, then holy f^$%
With Gates, Sproles, LT, Rivers, Vincent Jackson and Maclin. (and Chris Chambers)
That;s a crazy offense….
haha its no
Raider offense, go Darious Haywood-Bey! I swear they’ll be unstoppable…
The guy had 42 catches for 609 yards.... IN THE ACC
Against Clemson: 0 catches for 0 yards
Against Eastern Michigan: 3 catches for 31 yards.
Against Florida State: 3 catches for 22 yards.
He went #7 in the NFL Draft.
Did they think the Broncos would take him?
I guess they did, but I’m stunned to see Freeman go in the Top 20. The dude has bust written all over him.
Eagles trade up with Cleveland and get Jeremy Maclin
Great pick.., the guys gonna be great with McNabb, Desean Jackson, and Westbrook.
Bad draft so far for Cowboys fans
Gotta face Rak and Maclin multiple times every year, and you can bet the Giants make a smart pick.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
quick thoughts
wow the broncos have like 17 running backs now right?
Bey from Maryland isnt that bad of a pick, but certainly not top 10 material.
Crabtree wont be as good as everyone thinks he will be.. dude is slow and is injury prone
why does stephen mcgee even have the prospect of being drafted? he threw like 40 collegiate passes
this is one of the weakest draft classes ive seen in about 5 years

Stephen McGee is rated higher than Harrell on the Scouts inc. draft board for QBs

when is he gonna go? hes been on that best available board since round 2
Ian Johnson gets on one knee.

Cosby or not to Cosby
I’m very sorry

ESPN has a camera on Quan with Bill Cosby watching the draft...
Are they related? What gives? You’re telling me that we heard the McCoy/Ship/Roommate/Father/Abilene Christian storyline 345 times but never once that Quan and Bill Cosby have some weird bromance?
BTW Congrats to Roy Miller, Taken 17th in the 3rd Round to the Bucs.
Tech has 3 players taken. We have 2.
Compare UT's picks next year to Tech's next year.
The talent drain on Tech was absurd. UT was relatively unscathed

Is anybody watching the Quan/Bill Cosby interview with Erin Andrews
This is a strange section. Cosby is wearing a Temple football helmet and giving Erin Andrews life advice. Quan is just sitting there… kinda chuckling…
I thought the Pats would somehow get him...
An absolute steal late in the 3rd, almost too smart a pick for Cinci….
Dallas
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! How could you??? I tried to overlook the Martellus thing, but come one… this kid got benched for his Senior year at the college level.
He is scrappy

he wont. thats why i am no longer a cowboys fan
Im just gonna go with Colt’s team in 2010. But for this year, its between the redskins, bucs, bears, and whoever takes quan
Ian Johnson gets on one knee.
Sam Bradford gets on both.
Melton moving to DE was a good thing
He gets drafted early in the 4th by the Chicago Bears (105th overall).
anyone watch the interview with quan cosby and Dr bill cosby? that thing was absolutely hilarious.

yeah, I wish I could squeeze onto a small couch with erin andrews.
3/19/2009 - Dogus Balbay Made a Three-Pointer. Never Forget.
Just noticed Mike Williams signed a 1-year deal with the Skins
remember reading on the statesman I think it was how he was hoping for a comeback. he was living with derrick dockery already and training with him so the skins are giving him a shot. hopefully he gets his career on track.
3/19/2009 - Dogus Balbay Made a Three-Pointer. Never Forget.
Yeah, John Clayton was talking about how Buffalo avoided Orakpo because UT players have not
worked out for them (Dockery, Williams), but that Washington loves UT guys (Dockery, WIlliams, and now O-RAK).
Excerpt:
The ghosts of Mike Williams and other former Texas players had a major impact in the middle of the first round. Williams, the former No. 1 pick, was a huge bust in Buffalo. Despite that, the Bills spent $8 million a year for guard Derrick Dockery, another Texas product. He was released in the offseason. So the Bills decided not to take Texas linebacker Brian Orakpo at No. 11 because of the Texas Two-Step disaster. Meanwhile, the Washington Redskins said: “Come on down!” They drafted Orakpo and signed Dockery and Williams. The Redskins are hooked on the Longhorns.
glad to see dillard from rice get drafted, jacksonville got a really good WR.
If You See Kay, Oh You
Jax
got the best route runner and best hands in the draft. He’ll be an interesting test case for production versus measurables (speed and size).
HOLY CRAP THE TEXANS GET JAMES CASEY!!!!!!!!!!

Undrafted Free Agents
Anyone know where you can find info over the next couple of days on guys that went undrafted but will still get picked up by teams? Thought a kid from Texas State, Cameron Luke, WR would maybe get looked at as one of these guys
