Horns Lose, Get Closer To Conference Crown

Stay connected for news and updates

[Update:] The bats weren't working again but solid enough pitching and a number of Texas A&M mistakes gave the Horns enough scoring to take a 5-4 victory. We think that should just about seal a top eight national seed, and one more OU loss -- losing 5-1 in the 7th -- (either today to OSU or next week to Texas A&M) would seal the conference title for Texas. Regardless, the Horns have come a long way from last season and are now 17-4-1 in the last 22 games.

Aggy starter Ross Hales was absolutely brilliant in a 3-0 victory in Austin. That pretty much sums up the game. Cole Green was alright and Brandon Workman was nearly perfect in long relief, but Texas' offense just couldn't get anything going. There are days like that in baseball, time to move on.

There is good news, though. Texas still holds a 1 game lead over Texas A&M and a victory today would eliminate them from the conference crown. In addition, KSU lost again at home to Tech, so a Texas victory today would nearly seal the deal, pending one Oklahoma loss (OSU today, Aggy next week). This time it's Texas' turn to have a freshman phenom on the mound in Taylor Jungmann. Austin Wood and Dicharry should be available to pitch in the later innings. It's a 2 o'clock start since there are no flights to catch this time and it'll be broadcast by a Fox College Sports, whatever that is.
