Texas Takes On A&M Again

Alabama A&M is so bad that Nebraska could probably beat them this year (sorry Corn Nation!). AA&M lost last weekend to the Campbell Camels 23-2 and 13-3. In other words, if Texas loses one of these we'll be kind of surprised. No pitchers for today's DH have been announced yet, game one will start at 1 PM with game two to follow probably around 430ish.The weather might suck in the afternoon so hopefully they'll get at least one of the games in. Winning is important in this one, so is staying healthy. Look to see some names you haven't seen a lot this year.

[Update] As amorphous posted in the comments section, the doubleheader has been postponed until tomorrow at 12.

Postponemed Pitching

Does the postponement affect our pitching situation for the Big 12 Tourney?

by ryanlionrah on May 16, 2009 4:00 PM CDT reply actions

Doubt it

I wouldn’t expect anybody to pitch more than a few innings, if the regulars pitch at all. It’s got that midweek game feel to it

by 40AS on May 16, 2009 4:30 PM CDT up reply actions

When does the big 12 start?

Wednesday? Or is an all week thing?

"I don't ever miss free throws. I'm like 100-percent from the free throw line. I just don't think about missing and if you think about missing you're going to miss. I just take my time and know I'm going to make it and I do," McClellan said.

by blazzinken on May 16, 2009 4:41 PM CDT reply actions

I think it's Wednesday

And we’ve got some godawful game times, but not sure

by 40AS on May 16, 2009 4:43 PM CDT up reply actions

think y'all will get the 4 pm or 7 pm gametime

not sure

If they put the OU or OSU game at 7 pm, just to cater to the OKC crowds, that is bs. They should make the later gametime a reward for finishing first in conference.

As for the Alabama A&M game, is there really a point to this game? Sounds like an intersquad scrimmage would be tougher.

Seeding

I think it’s been a good weekend so far for seeding. OU is probably our best series win and them sweeping A&M would be fantastic (also hurts UC Irvine a little who has a win over Aggy) because it would probably move them into the top 10. LSU didn’t sweep MSU but took 2 of 3. I still think if we win 2 next week we’re a top 4 seed with #1 being certainly possible.

Chance Ruffin on the mound

Probably pitching so that he doesn’t miss a start, wouldn’t expect him to go long

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 12:02 PM CDT reply actions

Groundout

2 singles, pop out, walk, groundout ends the inning

Chance struggled there but got out of it.

Leadoff double for Torres

LF lost the ball in the gray sky

Tucker walks, Torres steals third

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 12:21 PM CDT reply actions

Belt squeezes

Torres scores, ball was popped up but fell, Tucker evaded the tag but is called out for leaving the base path…1-0, Belt on first

Lusson flies out, Keyes grounds out.

1-0 through 1

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 12:23 PM CDT reply actions

2 Ks a HBP and a groundout for AAMU

Loy walks, thrown out in a pitchout, Clark lines out to right, great play by RF, Maitland walks, flyout

1-0 through 2

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 12:40 PM CDT reply actions

No damage in the top, didn't see what happeend

Torres doubles again to lead off the bottom, bunt single for Tucker (placed amazingly)…corners again, no outs

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 12:50 PM CDT reply actions

Belt steals second

Lusson grounds out to 3B, Belt still advances

Keyes singles to left, 4-0

Loy HBP, pitching change…I’m out for a bit, prolly just me here though :)

1-0 Bot 3

Ags down 5-2 Bot 6

Jungmann on the mound, 5 Ks through 3.

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 3:08 PM CDT reply actions

Two walks and a pretty bunt

Then the pitcher throws the ball into the stands, probably saved a run.

Lusson doubles, 4-0

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 3:16 PM CDT reply actions

Somewhat amusingly

Neither Torres, Tucker nor Belt has an official AB at the top of the lineup today and they’ve scored all four runs for the Horns

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 3:17 PM CDT reply actions

Keyes singles in Lusson

5-0 through 3

Ags down 5-2 top 8

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 3:28 PM CDT reply actions

6-0 on Tucker double

Horns load the bases but a nice play by the 3B prevents them from scoring

6-0 through 4

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 3:45 PM CDT reply actions

Error #4 for A&M

Shoulda been an inning ending DP ball

Aggy pulls to withing 5-4 in the top of the 9th

Sac fly makes it 7-0, Torres singles making it 8-0, Tucker smokes one but it’s caught at the track…8-0 through 5

Workman in

What a gem by Jungmann

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 4:20 PM CDT reply actions

the left field situation

hernandez started in LF for the second game, maitland started and played the entire first game. i suppose shepherd played his way out.

as much as hernandez confounded me as a ss, i like the idea of him in left. he can’t be worse than shepherd, and he’s bound to be better offensively than maitland.

by amorphous on May 17, 2009 4:22 PM CDT reply actions

Hernandez and Shepherd

Hernandez is hitting .314, he’d be a great addition to the lineup, but you’re right that he was a disaster at SS. It’s sad to see Tant out of the lineup, he’s a heckuva talent. It really highlights the depth this team has.

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions

key numbers

batting averages, for what they’re worth:
2008 david hernandez: .291 overall, .283 big 12
2009 tant shepherd: .259, .247
plus shepherd has 4 errors in left this year… not that hernandez has been error free, but that was at short.

pending more time to review its effects defensively, i like this move

softball

is down 2-0 early to bama in an elimination (for texas) game

by amorphous on May 17, 2009 4:23 PM CDT reply actions

Bot 7 8-0

2 runs here would end the game

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 4:27 PM CDT reply actions

Easy popup dropped by RF

Loy to 3rd, one out

Not able to do anything though, we’ll keep playing

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 4:35 PM CDT reply actions

Yup

Horns took game one 5-1

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 4:57 PM CDT up reply actions

doh!

texassports doesn’t show the first game score yet.

so when should we expect the regular season wrap-up post? :-)

Still a Blaine Irby fan

AO will probably get to it tomorrow

If not then we’ll have something up Wednesday before the tourney starts. Not a ton to say until we see the seeding

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 5:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Alabama A&M has one infield single

Horns have faced the minimum, then Stafford walks a dude with 2 away

by 40AS on May 17, 2009 4:59 PM CDT reply actions

Stafford walks in a run

1-0, 4 straight walks, Staffords day is done
