Big XII Tourney: Day Four

Texas takes on Kansas State today at 12:30 with a shot at the conference title game on the line. Baylor plays Kansas in a meaningless game at 9:00, and the other side of the bracket will follow Texas' game to earn the right to play on Sunday. Aggy beat OU in a shootout last night (although what has happened to Aggy ace Brooks Raley? Before facing Texas -- 7-1, 1.96 ERA, since facing Texas -- 13.1 IP, 20 ER) making every team in that bracket 1-1 and every team still alive to advance with a victory and a victory by the team they've already beat.

Today's Schedule:

  • Baylor vs. KU -- 9:00 AM
  • Texas vs. KSU -- 12:30 PM
  • OU vs. Mizzou -- 4:00 PM
  • Aggy vs. Tech -- 7:30 PM

Big XII Sports allegedly has your video and live stats.

PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS
Texas:
RHP Taylor Jungmann (6-3, 1.88 ERA)
Kansas State: RHP Todd Vogel (4-1, 5.20 ERA)

Sunday opponent
…making every team in that bracket 1-1 and every team still alive to advance with a victory and a victory by the team they’ve already beat.

OU win + Aggy win = Aggy advances
OU win + TTU win = OU advances
Mizzou win + TTU win = TTU advances
Mizzou win + Aggy win = Mizzou advances

Hook ’em!

Please tell me...

… that the camera work on the first ground out is not indicative of what we’ll see for the rest of the game. I could not be more confused.

I know.

camera swung around really quickly trying to catch the ball

Can't wait till the Cubs come to town

I’ll be at all 4 of those games. If that doesn’t get the Cubs hitters going, nothing will.

My dog has given up on me playing with her...

… and now she’s just laying down at my feet, wagging her tail whenever I say anything similar to praise. Like “oh, good, Rupp’s still in.” Probably sounded like “Oh, Good Pupp! BLAH BLAH BLAH!”

Now they’re undoing it

by 40AS on May 23, 2009 1:55 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That was an awesome play!

Does the bottom of the bat not count as a hitting surface or something?

by Horn Brain on May 23, 2009 1:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

They got it right the first time IMO

Maybe the ump saw it differently though

by 40AS on May 23, 2009 1:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

certainly appeared to hit his bat

That's Augie-ball

Can’t argue with Augie’s results

by 40AS on May 23, 2009 2:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes you can.

You read Huckleberry’s post over at BC? Certainly makes an argument.

by Horn Brain on May 23, 2009 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

with our pitching

just getting 1 run at time is not as bad of a thing

by future_longhorn_dad on May 23, 2009 2:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You can, but it's a tough argument to make

Since he is the alltime winningest coach

by Texas Wahoo on May 23, 2009 2:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe

But considering he has won more than anyone else in history, it’s a tough argument.

by Texas Wahoo on May 23, 2009 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The problem with that analysis

Is that it assumes an average team in an average park. Texas is an above average pitching team without much power in a pitchers park. Generating a few runs here and there with superb pitching in a pitchers ballpark is a smart way to win ball games. Sitting back and waiting for the power isn’t as smart. It’s why Augie’s got 5 titles.

by 40AS on May 23, 2009 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like it in this situation

down 1 run, man on 2nd no outs, hernandez has been struggling.

by 40AS on May 23, 2009 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

What the heck?

Who would bunt with two strikes? That’s ridiculously risky with almost no reward.

Need to resolve that Yeast bad calling crap from the last series.

And they melt-down better than the rest.

Finally

Revenge on the state of Kansas. albeit an ugly revenge (4 errors?!)

by The Mack Attack on May 23, 2009 3:29 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Dumb Question

Wouldn’ t the winner of Mizzou and OU automatically be in because they are the #3 and the #2 seed respectively and the winner would be 2-1? The Aggy/Tech winner would be 2-1 but lower ranked then either Mizz or OU so doesn’t that game pretty much mean nothing?

Guaranteed to work 60% of the time, every time.

by poteet76 on May 23, 2009 3:35 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That makes sense

Since Texas beat the only 2-0 team forcing a three way tie then the highest rank team of those three goes. What a screwy system but what else would we expect from the Big 12

by poteet76 on May 23, 2009 3:38 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Well if any team knows about 3-way ties then it would be the University of Texas would be it. Thank goodness this one worked out in their favor.

by poteet76 on May 23, 2009 3:41 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

The logic is that this way:

Every team plays 3, predictable games, so it’ll be more fan friendly
The most games a team can play is 4, therefore saving pitching staffs from being overworked…not sure anyone buys that it’s a good system, but whatev.
