Baseball Takes on Missouri in Big XII Championship Game

[Update:] Horns win the Big XII, again. Texas used an 11 run 4th inning to pull ahead and held on despite some Austin Wood wildness in the 9th for a 12-7 win.

Missouri and A&M won yesterday so Texas will see Missouri in the championship game today at 1 PM on FSN. This game could be important for which seed Texas gets but is unlikely to affect whether the Horns host either a regional or super. That announcement will be made at 2:30 PM today, with the full seedings to be announced tomorrow at 11:30 AM. Thanks to 16.2 innings of beautiful starting over the last two days the Horns have a fresh bullpen, hopefully they can become the first team since Nebraska in 2005 to win the regular season and postseason Big XII titles.

PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS
Texas:
RHP Brandon Workman (3-3, 3.39 ERA)
Missouri: LHP Scooter Hicks (5-2, 3.70 ERA)

Pop up to Loy. 1 away

Ok, I'm back

For those that were wondering, the building museum in DC is only so-so

Double play on grounder to Belt

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 2:05 PM CDT reply actions

Torres base hit to right moves Belt to third. 2 on no outs

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 2:13 PM CDT reply actions

Belt got lucky

He hesitated and probably should’ve been thrown out

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 2:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Yea thats what the radio guys said.

They also mentioned that if the throw wasn’t cut off, it probably would have gone to right

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 2:17 PM CDT up reply actions

The RF came up throwing

But he caught the SS in a weird position and he couldn’t get much on the relay. Just a strange play

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 2:18 PM CDT up reply actions

grounder to left. 3-1 Horns

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 2:21 PM CDT reply actions

Kinda surprising

Keyes is #1 on the team in strikeouts (not surprising)

  1. on the team in walks

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 2:23 PM CDT reply actions

That is weird

You would think #1 in strikeouts he is not patient at the plate, but #2 in walks contradicts it

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Yup

His OBP is almost .400 even though he’s batting below .300

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 2:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess Augie can live with the lower BA

as long as his OBP stays high. But you would think it would catch with him eventually

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 2:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Wow

That ball was hammered, thought it left the park

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 2:27 PM CDT reply actions

Preston smoked a ball to deep left center

Wind killed it and the LF fell just before it landed. Ended up a warning track single because the runners had to hold up

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 2:29 PM CDT reply actions

This inning kinda defines our offense

HBP, single through the right side, BB, single, sac fly, balk, HBP

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 2:32 PM CDT reply actions

Come on Torres

2 out Grand Slam, por favor.

by horndude on May 24, 2009 2:37 PM CDT reply actions

10 runs

1 out that failed to plate a runner

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 2:42 PM CDT reply actions

Yea

Last year — 24 Ks in 59 ABs, 4 BBs
This year — 42 Ks in 167 ABs, 23 BBs

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Damn 40! You're good.

He’ll probably be drafted a little higher than the 25th round that he was drafted in couple years ago…

by SneezyBeltran on May 24, 2009 2:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Grounder to Loy 2 away

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 3:12 PM CDT reply actions

It's hard to take them seriously

Once they get Strasburg one would think they’d start to draw a little better

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions

I think it's just posturing by Boras

We’ll see though. It’s not really in Strasburg’s interest to go back to school for another year. He risks injury and can’t really improve his draft position, plus he’ll be a year older and still not in the majors

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

The way it sounds,

the Nationals would pay him just to get the arm and the fan draw. I think they mentioned like 25million signing bonus. Crazy numbers

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions

He's a lot better option than Crowe, but

if he messes up his elbow, that may be it for his pitching days.

by SneezyBeltran on May 24, 2009 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Wow

Torres backhanded it over the bag and fired a strike to first, great play for the first out

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 3:22 PM CDT reply actions

Loy

9-14 for the tourney…who’s your MVP?

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 3:32 PM CDT reply actions

Ya

That’s why I’d hesitate. I think Chance Ruffin’s CG was the most important performance, rested the bullpen and gave them room to recover. Also Jungmann yesterday

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Yea I think Ruffin's game was the most important,

but I would think the MOP voters go to more offense than pitching

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Probably Wood

May be Carillo or somebody (McKirahan?) to get the final 3 outs

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 3:50 PM CDT reply actions

Loy, Belt, Ruffin,

make all Big XII tourney team.

Loy = MVP.

by horndude on May 24, 2009 4:08 PM CDT reply actions

Jesus

DP ball is booted by Tucker, still loaded, 12-5

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 4:10 PM CDT reply actions

Hook 'em!

Would like to get to Austin for the Regional, but will likely just walk over to Rice instead. Maybe make it to the Super!

by horndude on May 24, 2009 4:19 PM CDT reply actions

We were in Austin 2 weeks ago.

Wife would kick my ass if I said drive 400 miles again this weekend

by NeTexHorn on May 24, 2009 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions

From dropping game one to Baylor on Wednesday

To winning the tourney on Sunday

Quite a turnaround

by 40AS on May 24, 2009 4:21 PM CDT reply actions

FSN in Kansas just now showing the game because of the Royals. No need in watching it now. Big 12 Champs!!!

Guaranteed to work 60% of the time, every time.
