I know this pitching staff is as good a group
as we have had in some time, but the lack of offense is a bigger problem than I thought. We can’t go that far can we? I mean I’m failing to see a Stubbs, a Teagarden, a Kainer or a Wheless in this group.

No Closer goes 12 innings
No closer goes 12 innings without giving up a run
No closer goes 12 innings without giving up a hit
The Best pitching performance I have ever seen. Hands down. You can take Nolan’s 7 no-hitters, all the 9 inning perfect games….but can you ever find a reliever go 12 innings of NO-hit baseball? What was it…160 pitches?
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
by kriess on May 31, 2009 1:19 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
You can't really compare college and pro
this was a great feat, but comparing it to Nolan’s no-hitters is ridiculous.
by goingforthecorner on May 31, 2009 1:21 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nolan would go 9 innings and give up 7 walks.
The quantity of his no-hitters are amazing. But to throw 12 innings of no-hit baseball, only walking 4 against aluminum bats….that is not comparable. If Nolan threw for 12 innings it can be compared but until someone does it on that level…no chance. And I’m not a UT homer. Quite the opposite actually. I’m from Alvin and Nolan Ryan is nothing short of a Demi-God to us folks.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
by kriess on May 31, 2009 1:24 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, and it was COLLEGE
I’m not sure why the material of the bats have anything to do with wanting to walk guys or not.
As for Nolan’s walks, it’s part of his game. If he’s throwing it in the strikezone all the time, he’d give up more hits and be more predictable. It’s worth throwing some off the plate to see if they chase.
by goingforthecorner on May 31, 2009 8:32 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
My mistake, here's clarification
The aluminum bats reference was in relation to the 12.1 innings of no-hit baseball, not necessarily only giving up 4 walks. The comparison is that Nolan couldnt go 12 innings of no hit baseball. Thats all.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
