the math aftermath is going to be astounding

players averages are going to plummet, pitching statistics will all improve dramatically, and NCAA records will fall… now score a damn run.

Loser of this game has to play Army early, then assuming they win they have to re-match this game. This is critical.

No Closer goes 12 innings

No closer goes 12 innings without giving up a run
No closer goes 12 innings without giving up a hit

The Best pitching performance I have ever seen. Hands down. You can take Nolan’s 7 no-hitters, all the 9 inning perfect games….but can you ever find a reliever go 12 innings of NO-hit baseball? What was it…160 pitches?

Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

by kriess on May 31, 2009 1:19 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You can't really compare college and pro

this was a great feat, but comparing it to Nolan’s no-hitters is ridiculous.

by goingforthecorner on May 31, 2009 1:21 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nolan would go 9 innings and give up 7 walks.

The quantity of his no-hitters are amazing. But to throw 12 innings of no-hit baseball, only walking 4 against aluminum bats….that is not comparable. If Nolan threw for 12 innings it can be compared but until someone does it on that level…no chance. And I’m not a UT homer. Quite the opposite actually. I’m from Alvin and Nolan Ryan is nothing short of a Demi-God to us folks.

Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

by kriess on May 31, 2009 1:24 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, and it was COLLEGE

I’m not sure why the material of the bats have anything to do with wanting to walk guys or not.

As for Nolan’s walks, it’s part of his game. If he’s throwing it in the strikezone all the time, he’d give up more hits and be more predictable. It’s worth throwing some off the plate to see if they chase.

My mistake, here's clarification

The aluminum bats reference was in relation to the 12.1 innings of no-hit baseball, not necessarily only giving up 4 walks. The comparison is that Nolan couldnt go 12 innings of no hit baseball. Thats all.

169

That’s how many pitches Wood threw. I think he deserves the accolades.

My evening

Watch/listen/follow open thread until 7th inning.
Take wife to dinner.
Hear the Horns are still playing in the 11th, wish I could skip movie and head to game.
Go to movie.
Exit movie head straight for car to check score, find out game is in 21st inning!
Drive straight to ballpark and hang out with 7-8K of my closest friends.
Epic victory!

Ah welcome back

I unfortunately stayed the whole time….BRUTAL watching Gametracker on CBS sports for 25 innings. Not cool.

We showed up at the bottom of the 21st

Horns fans everywhere. Few were leaving and lots of people still coming in. The berm was filled.
Dammit, can’t sleep right now.

That's amazing!

And to think the wife and I nearly walked over to Reckling Park tonight for the Rice game…

I just listened to the post-game with Augie, Austin^2 and Tucker. Very touching what Augie said about Wood. Read it in the morning papers.

Good night, horns.

The funny thing is...

After all that, and after watching the video feet of the BC and UT press conferences, I still want more. I don’t want it to end yet. I want more baseball.

where did you find the video?

All I can find is a bunch of Cleveland/Olrando post game BS….

Austin Dicharry was pretty freaking amazing too

So many accolades to go around.

So was Ruffin

I think people forget he also pitched…lol. Keyes had the most RBI’s even though if you came in after the 8th inning, you wouldn’t even know he played.
