Baseball Takes on Aggy
[Update:] The Horns jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 8-3 before giving both leads up. Chance Ruffin was solid and Austin Wood was both disastrous and magical, then the Horns put up a 3-spot in the 10th and Austin Dicharry finished it up for an 11-9 win. KSU lost to Tech 6-0, so Texas' magic number is now 2!
Winning two our of three this weekend may not guarantee a conference crown, but it will go a long way towards ensuring a national seed. Aggy's Friday starter is about as good as they come and Texas has had trouble getting to aces, so a Friday win could portend big things for the weekend, especially since Saturday and Sunday are in Austin. There's not a ton that needs to be said about this one: it's big for both sides, Texas' hitting has come alive again, and we'll be interested to see how Brandon Workman responds to being moved to the bullpen.

you forgot to mention that Childress is 0-12 against texas in regular season play in his three years at A&M
If you can get by Raley, I’m not optimistic we’ll avoid another sweep.
Hate fest is on!
There’s not much to say. We pitch better than they do so far. Aggies are miserable people.
This place is awful.
Anyone who reads this from their phone, just take any seat you can. They’re all “saved” obviously.
Top of the seventh ...
… Horns up 6-3. Good Guys just scored three on a double, still no outs in the inning. Man on second. Rowe up to bat.
Watch out, I bite.

Update - Top 7th
Horns have put up 5 runs so far in the 7th. its now 8-3. Raley is still in the game for the aggies. only 1 out in the inning with runners on 1st and second still. Lets see if Chance can get us through at least one more inning and let our bullpen close things down. Its gonna be a good weekend!
as I speak
Raley is chased after 6 1/3. in comes Wilson and ends the inning
Raley’s line for the day:
6.1 inn – 9H – 8R – 8ER – 1BB – 5K
Raised his ERA from a 1.96 to a 2.67. Id say the offense is pretty locked in right now.
By the way...
who’s going to tomorrow’s game? Im driving down from Dallas with my girlfriend and Im stoked about it.
no worries.
i just got home and pulled the game tracker and audio feed up. i had this game thread pulled up on my phone while i was out and was frustrated no one had any updates!
chalk one up for the good guys though, huh?
Bottom 7th
Gonzalez, the 8th hitter, pops out. Then Smith walks, followed by a homer from Greene.
still 8-5 good guys.
40AS…i think youre bad luck.
Austin Wood into the game
6.1 solid innings from Ruffin. Lets see if Austin can give us another of those 2+ inning saves.
Jesus
Wood gives up a tying triple but the guy is thrown out trying to stretch it into a homer
8-8, to the 9th
Bullpen
You think we see Workman come in if we go to extra innings here? Seems like thered be no reason to use Wood again in the bottom of the 9th if we’re tied. Save him for Sat/Sun.
Sure
If we get one here in the top 9th, Id expect him to close it down. But otherwise, itd seem kind of silly to throw him out there for another inning just to get us to extra innings. shrug this is a pretty big game tho.
With KSU losing
Texas’ lead is now 2 games, magic number is 2 (I think), 2 wins would make us 18-8-1 in conference and if KSU goes 5-0 in that span they’d be 17-8-1
Sort of
According to Craig Way, the magic # is 2 IF Texas gets another win out of this series. He said that 2 KSU losses will not cut it if Texas also loses the next 2. I really think 1 more win seals the deal, but 2 would be especially sweet, as it would be the 4th straight sweep of the Aggies.
Agreed
I think if we pull one out tomorrow, they’re all but cooked. Jungmann has been untouchable lately. And neither of their weekend pitchers are as good as Raley. I just think we’re in too good of an offensive groove right now. This one was huge.
Yeah, their other starters are not close to Raley
but Raley was off tonight, and their offense still kept them in it. We really need Cole Green to be on his game tomorrow. I have confidence in Jungmann, but Green is not a dominant pitcher. Good, but doesn’t have overwhelming stuff, and that scares me against a great offensive team like A&M.
aight chief
Im out for a celebratory beverage. We’ll pick this thing up again tomorrow.
no posting for me as Ill be at the Disch rooting on Cole Green and the boys to lock up a national seed.
Like clockwork ...
Aggy claims we bought off the umps. Those guys are hilarious. One of them said he “saw it” when Augie and the home plate ump shook hands before the game.
Thanks guys
The only way I could follow this game was through your posts. Here’s to success tomorrow and Sunday. I like our chances for a national seed, but I like them better the more games we win.
So, bassale47, can we get the Aggies to compute how much Augie must have paid out over the years to get to 1700+ wins? I never read that he was born into that much wealth.

Oh, and by the way
Don’t you think after 1700 wins Augie could have figured out a better way to pay off the umps than cash in a handshake? Or does Aggy not know about electronic funds transfers?
