Since when are college athletics about revenue?(notably 2nd and 3rd tier sports)

I think it’s naive to say college athletics shouldn’t have any interest in turning a profit. Something has to keep the lights on (stadiums and arenas upgraded), the floors carpeted (work out facilities), and meals on the table (proper nutrition).

Good read rBr
The income gap in the big 12 is something that isn’t discussed nearly enough.

Not sure if this will even be enough for them realistically close the gap...
Their biggest issue is that they are years away from putting up a nationally competitive basketball program. While our football revenue is through the roof we had $12M in revenue from basketball Nebraska only managed $6M. I didn’t check all the teams but Kansas had $14M in b-ball revenue same as their football team and I would bet that was the tops for the Big 12 and I am pretty sure we were second.
Actually in looking through the data is sometimes hard to see where the revenue comes from. Schools like Kansas and OSU had $50M in revenue that they didn’t tie to any particular program while Texas only had $23M classified in that manner. I didn’t read through the NCAA’s report enough to see what that money might encompass, but it does make comparisons very difficult.

Maybe some of the money tied to non revenue is dispersment from BCS bowls that UT and OU made? Or is that tied into football already?
