Destiny???
LSU can have its 14-5 wins. Austin Wood gave up an RBI triple to give Arizona State a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the 9th. ASU's closer had been perfect through his first 7 batters, then he fell behind to Cameron Rupp, who launched a 3-1 pitch over the center field wall. Tie game. Preston Clark popped out. Then Connor Rowe bombed a walk off homer to left.
Texas has played an SEC team the last four times it has won a title. Bring on the Tigers. This team has some serious magic and tonight we celebrate.

Was wondering where you've been
Can somebody get a screen shot of Lambson’s face after Rupp’s homer? It was classic
How about Mike Leake?
I think we can add the “Mike Leake face” to the pantheon of great sports faces, right up there with the “Tim Duncan face” (after a foul) and the “Peyton Manning face” (any time he thinks a teammate messed up).

Must have been at least 420-430 feet.... Lambson got rocked
But, on the flipside, it was nice to see the ASU coach giving him some life lessons immediately after the game…. Better than “storming off into the locker room” Yeah, I am talking about you LeBron, what
I went back to rewatch it on my DVR, but couldnt record it, so I got the camcorder out to record it that way, I’ll see what I can pull off of that

Congratulations.
We’re honored to have her as a good luck charm.
Lets recap
Regional
-Beat Army 3-1 in first game
-Beat BC in a 25 inning game
-Beat Army with an 8 run 9th and a walk off Gradslam
Super Regional
-Play almost a perfect game against TCU and win with 7 sac bunts
-Get beat in a pitchers duel 3-2
- Have a very good performance from Jungmann to win the deciding game
College World Series
-Beat a scrappy Southern Miss team on a walk off walk.
-Comeback from being down 6-0 against ASU, have a 6 run 4th
-Another pitchers duel, trail in the bottom of the 9th, two Solo Homeruns to win the game

small ball
Some how or other they will work in the small ball talk. Of course these guys still think the Horns run the wishbone.
Celtics-Lakers '08?
The team in purple and yellow blow through the competition to get to the finals and we have to fight hard for every win. Hopefully it ends the same way
might I add..

WOOOOO!
I was so nervous at the beginning of Rupp’s at-bat. Then, I stopped and asked myself why I wasn’t spending my energy believing in this baseball team. It didn’t take long for them to reward my faith. Wow, Rupp absolutely crushed that ball. It had to have been about 430-440 feet. Then, Connor Rowe. That one swing surpassed anything that Drew Stubbs ever did in the CWS. Wow. I love this baseball team.

this is an accurate statement
to deep center was 408, the wall is 10’, meaning the backdrop has to be 30’ at least, that ball probably went at least 450’.
God
He murdered that ball, f-ing ridiculous
And Pat Murphy says in the postgame presser ...
a baseball tournament doesn’t tell you who the best team is.
Just go home dude.

Yeah
I know it’s hard, but you just lost to Texas twice. I realize both games were close. Both required comeback wins. But you lost. Twice. Stop with the “it doesn’t mean they’re better” crap.
What I'm wondering is
if losing to team twice in a row doesn’t mean they’re better than you what does it mean?
So nice to wake up to good news yet again.
So we’ve got Ruffin on Monday and Jungmann hopefully in yet another “game of his life” possibly Tuesday. If we go to three does Workman pitch? Or Green again?

Ruffin, Green, Jungmann

Probably Ruffin, Green, Jungmann
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jungmann held out for long relief in one of the first two games. If we get to a third game then Workman might be the starter if Jungmann has seen significant action.

the last time green pitched on three days rest
he started the tuesday game in austin v rice and did not do well
I was thinking the same. I don’t think three days is sufficient after a 105 pitch performance. Maybe keep him ready for relief in game two if UT wins game one, but plan on starting him in game three?

Couple of shoulder surgeries, might be able to pitch again next year.
I think at least one of them was a torn labrum. Not good news, he might have come back too quickly from the first one because he pitched a couple of games and just didn’t have it.

I think the moment that I saw Conner Rowe hit that ball, and heard Posse East around me erupt in joy, all I could do was hold my head in my hands and try to believe what had just happened around me. will be a madhouse. UT and LSU both have tons of fans there. The place will be packed with actual fans of the schools for the series.
I was there for the Sunday through Tuesday games and thought I had seen the best of it. Now I’m mad I had to come home on Wednesday.
ESPN writers better than ESPN live coverage.
• Texas, which won its CWS opener against Southern Miss on a walkoff walk, picked up its third victory in its last at-bat in the NCAA Tournament.
• Arizona State closer Michael Lambson lost for the second time in the CWS when he surrendered the two homers after retiring the first seven batters he faced in the game.
• Cameron Rupp hit his third homer of the CWS, all against the Sun Devils.
• The Longhorns, in their first trip to Omaha since they won the national title in 2005, advanced to their fourth CWS finals this decade (won in 2002 and 2005, lost in 2004).
The ESPN articles are here and here with video.
No matter what happens in the College World Series finals, it’ll be tough for Texas to top this finish.

More cool stats
Texas …now leads the country in ERA heading into the CWS championship series (2.88 for Texas; 2.89 for Arizona State).
Augie Garrido collected his 37th CWS win on Friday, moving past Arizona State’s Jim Brock and Stanford’s Mark Marquess for third place all-time. His .698 winning percentage now ranks fourth all-time.
Mitchell Lambson finished the year with an Arizona State freshman record with 99 strikeouts, including five strikeouts tonight.
The Longhorns improved to 81-53 all-time at the CWS, as Texas leads all programs in CWS wins (81) and games played (134).

Link to Pat Murphy stupid quote
What an idiot. No, we would rather have a vote to pick the NC like what happened in football – right?
"A baseball tournament doesn’t necessarily indicate who the best team in the country is," ASU coach Pat Murphy said.
"A pitch here, a pitch there. A call here, a call there. We could have won it all. It tears you up. It doesn’t seem right."
Not terribly gracious, but probably true.
Its way too small a sample size to draw from to make any conclusions…but seriously, as the losing, just shut your effing mouth.
by pleaseplaykindle on Jun 20, 2009 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions
I agree. It’s probably true that a tournament doesn’t generally crown the best team. That’s why we see teams that aren’t even #1-seeds in their respective brackets win the basketball and/or baseball tournament many years. It’s why wild cards (which I hate worse than about anything in sports) sometimes win the Super Bowl or World Series. But UT beat ASU twice out of two tries, despite some major gifts from the defense, and was the #1-overall seed in the nation to boot. He’s fresh out of excuses.
