BON CWS DC Watch Party
Jeff Asher (half of 40AS) and myself will be watching the CWS tomorrow night at the Rhodeside Grill in DC. While I'm only a DC summer transplant, it's known as the "Texas Bar" by the locals.
We're both going to try to arrive well before the first pitch. Jeff will be wearing a UT baseball jersey, and I plan on sporting one of my "Texas Law" shirts. Take a car, take a cab, take the metro--take whatever it takes to get there. We'll be eating steak, drinking beer, and hopefully watching magical victory from the anointed "Team of Destiny."
Hook 'Em!
[Update by 40AS]: For those that'll be joining, Rhodeside Grill is two blocks from the Courthouse metro on Wilson Blvd. They've got a small parking lot but there's usually street parking relatively close by.

I'll try and make it
It’s been stunning to me reading the board during this run just how many DC-based alums (and Nationals fans!) there are following the Horns. I’ll no longer be a DC-based Horn by the end of the week, but I’ll try and stop by amid all the packing for a cross-country move.
Hmm…I’ll have to see about what post-partum (a week ago today) wifey thinks about it, but it sounds like fun. We’re in the MD ‘burbs, and it looks like it’d be an easy metro ride from here to there. I’ll definitely make it for some football games this fall if I’m not able to make the baseball games this week.

how many Texas-Fans-DC Transplants do we have up there?
I’ll be moving there long term in a few months and definitely looking forward to having people to watch the games with. Strangely enough, the idea of becoming a transplant has already got me interestesd in the woeful Nats. God help me if I ever become a fan of the redskins.
I guess we'll find out
Don’t worry, every transplant dislikes the Redskins. The Nats are harmless enough that you can follow them without much trouble.
No way you'll root for the Skins
As 40AS says, no one comes to DC and becomes a Skins fan. Their fans, and the incessant local media coverage, will annoy the hell out of you, and it also doesn’t help their cause that they have one of the most loathsome owners in sports. Out-of-towners have a much easier time with the Nats, Caps and Wizards.
And if you happen to be a Cowboys fan like me, you’ll discover it’s a lot more fun being a Cowboys fan up here than in Texas. There are a LOT of Cowboys fans, and when the Cowboys are doing well, such as back in the fall of 2007, you will see as many Cowboys car flags, if not more, as Skins flags.
(And as an interesting aside, if you see a car up here with a Cowboys car flag, I have noticed that there will be about a 90% chance that an African-American will be driving the car. From what I’ve been told, the Cowboys have a lot of supporters in the region’s African-American community, which dates back to the 1960s when the Skins were the NFL’s last segregated team and the Cowboys were the only other “Southern” NFL team.)

I actually like following the Orioles, Ravens, Terps, and Nats, although even my anti-Cowboys sentiments can’t get me to root for the Redskins so long as they belong to Daniel Snyder. Wifey went back to school at Univ. of Maryland, so we’ve been going to a lot of Terps games, and we’ve also caught Orioles and Ravens games in person. I think it’s natural for people who actually enjoy the game and the gameday experience to get into following the local teams. No chance the Terps ever come close to supplanting Texas as my top college team, but they kind of rival some of the other teams I like to follow casually (Wichita State, the Kansas schools), and I don’t really see the Ravens coming all that close to the Chiefs or University of Texas @ Nashville (Titans), and neither the Nats nor O’s will ever compete with the team of Ozzie Smith in my heart. But it’s lots of fun to watch Ravens games with some local friends.

I finished my schooling at George Mason University after I was cordially asked to leave the University of Texas :) I am glad to see if and when I go back to visit, God forbid during the football season, I have some Burnt Orange options. But I am also really glad I’ll be riding this one out on the 40 acres.
As they say, it'll be a gametime decision
My roommate and I (AU alumni but Texas transplants) may make it. Like a few others, we’re definitely there in the fall, but it’d be cool to meet up with y’all when the bar is likely (but then again, maybe not) less crowded.
I might make it down to Rhodeside
Do you think it’s going to be crowded? I can probably make it down from work by 7, but I won’t be able to get there earlier. I know for football season you have to get there really early.
I don't think it'd be as busy as football season
Hoping to get there around 6:30 to grab some tables in case there’s a good turnout. On the one hand, it’s just baseball. On the other, it’s the championship series. I guess we’ll see.
If I go...
I will wear my hand maid burnt orange african suit….

Be careful man
The summer I interned in DC, UT made the CWS championship, and I watched it in Clarendon (Mr Days and Witlow’s I believe). That was 2004, and we got smoked. If they lose tonight, watch the other two games in Maryland.
