Seperating rushing yards and sacks in statistics
Of course, Muschamp is right about statistics being for losers, but Tim Griffin does some dirty work to remove sacks from rushing yards for 2008. Gives you some interesting results, such as Baylor being better at stopping the run than Texas.
I'd prefer mammoth sacks to a .7 yard difference in rushing yards allowed, though.

Hurts to admit
Before every big matchup last year, Texas’ defensive rushing stats were highlighted. But I wasn’t convinced we were all that. Especially considering the fact that mostly every team passed a majority of the time. Tim Griffin has something going on here…

Now......
…..three of the four are in the NFL. The edges are fine, however, I’m very concerned about the underbelly.

Job will get done
The majority of our schedule this year are pass happy teams. About the defensive rushing stats, when a team passes 70% of the time, your run d stats are skewed. In the same way our pass d was evaluated, just ridiculous. Do you honestly think we had the 90th best pass d in the country? Not to mention 2nd and 3rd stringers coming in halfway through the 3rd quarter. Can’t take stats too seriously, not the best evaluation tool in my mind.

I think they should do this
It doesn’t make sense to me to count that as a rushing stat. It’s a dang passing play, although granted, QB’s like Colt can turn them into rush plays.
We still had a good rush defense, as there were many teams who tried to run on us and couldn’t. However, considering the much smaller number of rushing plays we faced, I’m sure games like Okie State and Ohio State really ballooned our rush yards allowed.

I don’t think it’d make sense to subtract it from passing yardage. Either track it as a separate statistic that is subtracted from neither passing nor rushing, or subtract it from rushing.

How bad was A&M?
Offense: 2.9 yds/carry
Defense: 5.2 yds/carry
Ouch.
