Welcome to Longhorn hell
Do you feel it? Is it looming over you, its shadow slowly expanding to fill the room?
It's here. And it's ugly. The off-season.
There are a few things that make this off-season different from recent years:
- It's shorter. Hooray for baseball! By going three games, they extended their season to the latest possible date. So our gameless months are shortened considerably.
- There's more anticipation. This holds true for both money-making sports. Both the football and men's hoops programs are regarded as top 5 pre-season prospects. Wow. Just, wow.
- Personnel is particularly fascinating. Perhaps it's just me. But because of 2 above, the scrutiny regarding potential lineups is greater than ever. What's more, the breathless anticipation for the opportunity to evaluate new talent (particularly for running back and point guard, yes I know I'm mixing sports) is high, since these critical roles must be filled if there is any hope of a national championship run.

I'm Moving
Over the next 45 days or so… Enough to get from “too much time to worry” to “Only a month to go!” Once you get under a month, it’s safe to start counting down, playing the fight song on repeat in the car, watching VY highlight videos, etc etc

Secondary controversey?
Could be something to discuss possibly? Its a good problem to have when four or five guys at each position who could easily start at most colleges, but if Chykie has a bad week do you think he gets replaced? I personally am a big AW fan and think he is going to have a monster year. Probably not much to discuss since most will get a lot of PT. It will be interesting to see if Marcus Davis gets on the field much.

You’d think it would make sense to redshirt Davis, Barnett, and Vaccaro, since the depth is so good in the defensive backfield right now. I guess playing time could benefit each of them, but with Chykie, Curtis, AW, and Beasley, I think they could afford to rely on a talented, but buried on the depth chart, safety as the fifth corner.
I’m really interested to know what’s going to happen with Monroe and Hales, too. Are they sticking at WR and RB, you think? It’s going to be interesting if Hales is taking snaps in a RBBC with Fozzy, McGee, Whaley, and Johnson. That seems like too broad a split to let any one of them get into a rhythm.

Hales
I think we have to get this kid the ball he is absolutely electric with the ball in his hands. It will be interesting to see how the offense uses him, I am thinking Greg Davis might try to use him like he used Ramonce Taylor. I dont really know whats going on with Monroe but i heard he had some academic problems so hopefully that is no longer an issue. I hope someone steps it up in the backfield so hopefully we have a legitimate starter by the time Big 12 play rolls around. It really wouldnt suprise me if that guy ends up being Chris Whaley, with his size and speed i have high hopes for this guy.

I broke out the highlight vids ...
a few weeks ago. The anticipation is killing me. Have my second child due in a little over a week so I should stay busy enough to not think about it until two a days start.

Is it gonna be a boy or a girl?
If a boy, please name it either Colt, Major, or Vince. (or Daniel- Colt’s first name. You could tell Mrs.LonghorninRaiderland that you had no idea)

Colt
Ive already used Colt. I go to church w/ an aggie who is constantly haggling me about it. I love it. He asks me, “Did you just come up with that name out of the blue or have you heard it somewhere? haha”. What a dork.
I even named my son Kolt. no kidding

It's a girl...
I could think of any names that would fit well as a first name for a girl.

Sorry, I could not think of names for a girl
Although I did Harley as a first name (after Harley Clarke – introduced Hook ’Em sign), but I was quickly shot down.

Cat
You would never have to buy beer again in
Austin if you told people you named your kids Colt and Cat.

Congratulations are in order, but...
I thought all the CFB fans knew not to schedule their weddings during the season!!!

I keep calling her “Gingersnap” and stuff like that, just to get a rise out of the wife. She’s not amused.
Of course, the kid has nice, even skin tone, so it’s unlikely she’ll be one of those creepy, soulless gingers. Phew!

Exes
Another worthy topic is how former players are faring with their pro teams.

If you get bored during the off season,
there is always this
(Martellus Bennett raps about his love of Captain Crunch)

I could have gone years without hearing that.
Someone needs to stage an intervention with Bennett. He obviously believes he has talent.
