UT FB Camp Notes
All of the 2010 commits were there save Ashton Dorsey (Don't look too much into that.)
Wilson and Daniels worked out together and looked...fast.
McCoy and Woods were tossing around the rock with D White. The receivers this year were spectacular. No commit from White.
Has anyone seen Trovon Reed or Lache Seastrunk? Mack hasn't either. Reed cancelled, Lache may be a no show. If so Mack may see the ensuing circus and hedge his bets.
Of the linebackers Aaron Franklin showed really well and may be recieving an offer in the near future.
None of the West Orange Stark boys were offered.
It doesn't look like there were any new offers extended.
A couple of surprises. One Christian Westerman, an OL from AZ showed up. Don't really know much about him. But he made the effort to come so the staff will evaluate him. I expect him to become a 2011 target. Also 2010 Denton Receiver Bud Sasser apparently showed well.
Next week expect Aaron Green and Demarco Cobbs to show.
9:29 ET...I think Herschel Sims might be a dark horse as RB prospect for Texas.

Great news on Darius White
If he took the opportunity to meet the rest of the 2010 class that has to be a good sign.
Any guys that didn’t show (unless a good reason upfront) you have to think aren’t that serious about us. Obviously Hicks and Cobbs being oos can’t be expected to be here and may wait for Officials to cover travel costs. Any word on Jeffcoat?
Shead may be the guy at RB, but if Lache is falling apart, then who else do we target at RB for 2010? Do we really just leave it at one RB?

Good Question
I don’t even think the staff knows if they take another RB.
The rumors on Jeffcoat is that he wants TX but his father wants USC.

Other programs.....
……don’t have a problem recruiting Top-100 guys until the very last evening. Maybe we should try it. In=house visits would be good, too.

Everybody seems to think we weren't productive at RB.
The only game we did not have a running game was TT. Applewhite did an excellent job. 0 fumbles is nothing to be laughed at either. I think the Jury is still out. I am actually big on Vondrell.

I like Vondrell too
however i disagree about the run game. There were times where it was just a liability and we had to pass.
However seeing Vondrell near the end of the year (healthy) was encouraging, and I think Cody Johnson can be bigger than a role player. Fozzy was kind of diappointing all year.

Don't know about that...
We had -5 yards rushing until late against OU… Granted Chris O broke a couple in the second half but apart from two carries our running game was entirely ineffective.
I do agree that 0 fumbles is amazing especially following a year where fumbles cost us huge!

Ohio State game?
I can’t recall for sure, but it seemed like we struggled to run against Ohio State, too.

RB success/problems
I don’t know schemes from anything…but we have had rushers like Williams, Benson and Charles (damn, wish he had stayed 1 more year) that were succesful under these same coaches so I just don’t understand what changed. I also wonder why Bruce Matthews had such a problem with it—enough to impact the recruit of his son. Bruce Matthews is someone that would know—so makes me wonder. We have top OL recruits, so not sure where the blame lies. And, funny how upset I was with the D. Scott recruit b.s.—now I’m not sure he was much to have fussed about anyway. Sure would like a real speed shake and bake type guy to tandem with Whaley and Shead.

recruiting realities
it is fun to speculate and fantasize but heres the reality……
i grew up in san angelo tx. football was my passion, starting tackle thru YMCA in 3rd grade and playing thru high school….in jr high, I idolized the great Shea Morenz…..
{{{anyone remember him?}}}
i know, i know…. youre not quite old enuff to remember him but 20 years ago he was THE man. parade all america, consensus blue chipper, the next big thing. everyone swore he would unseat Gardere. john mackovic kept him in state, despite personal visits from bill walsh and the full attentions of dennis erickson. then he got to austin….hurt his ankle at a frat party his redshirt year, never ascended beyond mediocrity after that….
ramonce taylor was relatively unheralded.{{{ same class as OG and JShip}}}.. with him, we dont get Colt hurt against k-state and go on to win a NC then - and we beat tech and win a NC last year….
look up -- get up -- dont ever give up

But didn't he end up marrying Mary Lou Retton?
Not a bad consolation prize.
Still a Blaine Irby fan

No Shannon Kelley.
Shea Morenz ended up in the Yankees farm system, he was a High Baseball draft choice out of high school. I rmember him negotiating the summer before he came to UT, and there was a “watch” on for when hecame to campus.

U sure?
I went on a trip last year and this girl was telling me he was married to mary lou retton. I didn’t know much about ol’ shae til I heard her doggin’ the guy

Yes, I'm sure.
Shannon Kelley was a backup QB at UT when I was there and I took a class which MLR audited. As far as I know she never took a reall class at UT, she audited only to be on campus with Shannon.

Mary Lou Retton...
is not a bad consolation prize?!?!?!
I guess not…if you are into women who look like 12-year old boys.

LOL...so true, and to make matter worse for she isn't a very nice person
I will never forget—I was flying back to Austin from a weekend in Houston visiting the folks. Seated in front of me was MLR. I was on the aisle. After we took off lady on the aisle across from MLR (a very nice looking older woman) very quietly and politely reached over and told MLR that her grandaughter was in gymnastics and was a huge fan—and she then deigned to ask for an autograph. The little bitch rang the flight attendant light/buzzer and told the flight attendant that passengers were bothering her and that she expected her privacy. What a freaking nut job!!! She was the only one maknig a scene.
I want to smack her silly to this day—-and this was back in the mid 80s. The poor older lady was mortified. S Kelly was at the aiport and they walked hand in hand out of the airport.
She puts on that little smile in public and had a tv show for awhile encouraging kids to get into gymnastics—then acted like such a nut job to that poor lady who was simply a fan. Sorry for the digression— Back to football.
