Around SBN: Dana White Announces Koscheck vs. Hendricks for UFC on FOX

The 2009 Football Season is Over!!

We Started off strong... a perfect 5-0 heading into the Red River Shootout, where we met up with an undefeated OU. It was a back and forth game that had to be decided in overtime!

After 2 overtimes, Sam Bradford is picked by Chykie Brown, and all Texas had to do was knock down a field goal to leave Dallas victorious. Hunter would not disappoint. Texas won 48-45 in double OT.

The next big battle was with Oklahoma State. It was close for the majority of the game, but a key Segrio Kindle Sack ended OSU's hopes for a comeback and Texas escaped OSU with a 31-21 Victory.

Kansas proved to be a high scoring nuisance but could not stop Texas, as the Longhorns won 41-31.

Texas than proceeded to slaughter the Aggies to a tune of 45-13 in College Station. Cody Johnson had 4 TD's.

The Big 12 Championship game pitted Texas against a VERY feisty Kansas team in their 2nd match up in a 4 week span. Kansas led at Half, 28-17...an undefeated season and shot at the National Championship was on the line in the 2nd half. Texas steadily climbed back and with 4 minutes to go in the game Texas had the ball down 26-28 on the Kansas 48 yard line. The near perfect Colt McCoy made his biggest mistake of the year throwing an interception to the ball hawking safety from KU. But the Texas defense would not go out without a fight. They forced a 3 and out and gave Colt another chance , this time with 1:13 left on the clock. Colt led his undefeated Texas team down the field and with 3 seconds on the clock, Hunter Lawrence hit a 36 yard field goal to win the game and the Big 12 Championship! Texas would face Florida in the BCS National Championship Game.

Tim Tebow won the Hiesman Trophy for a 2nd time, and Christian Scott won the Thorpe award. These two would do battle on January 8th.

Florida got on the board first after a interception by Colt McCoy. But the Longhorns would not be discouraged, as they scored on 3 straight possessions and led at halftime... 17-7

But in the 2nd half, Florida came out fighting. After a fumble by Fozzy Whitaker, Tim Tebow capitalized and brought the Gators within 3. Then yet ANOTHER costly fumble by Fozzy, and the Gators again would not let this go unpunished as they took the lead, 21-17. Fozzy would be benched.

Unwaviered, Colt drove his team down the field and ran it in himself from 9 yards out to take the lead back, 24-21. Tim Tebow would make the biggest mistake of his Hiesman winning year by throwing a pick-6 to none other than Aaron Williams, who returned it 67 yards to put the Longhorns up for good. 31-21. Two more Td's, one off a forced fumble by Sergio Kindle, and the other off a 57 yard TD pass from Colt to Malcolm Williams would seal the deal for the Texas Longhorns as they would go on to win their 2nd National Championship in 5 years, 45-21.

At least that's how it happened on my NCAA 2010 Dynasty!

Sounds good to me

I am glad to know how its going to happen. I was pulling hair out during the CWS, so stressing during the season would probably have been detrimental to my health. Now I can watch the games knowing that even though there will be some gut-wrenching drama, it will all lead to a happy ending….. :)

Stats

What are the individual stats?

by Eskimohorn on Jul 17, 2009 8:39 AM CDT reply actions

Stats

Well I’m already on to my next season… but Colt had something like 2700 yard passing, 400 rushing and 38td’s.

Cody Johnson had 800 yards rushing and 15 tds, Fozzy had 700 yards and 4 td’s

Malcolm, Shipley and Collins all did about the same.

Christian had over 70 tackles, with 20 coming behind the line of scrimmage… 3 sacks, and an int.

I'd be very, very surprised

If Christian Scott won the Thorpe Award this season. It would seem Earl Thomas would have a better chance at that.

I’d rather not have Tebow win the Heisman again. I don’t know if I could stand the inevitable Tebow lovefest during the bowl layoff.

by TheElusiveShadow on Jul 17, 2009 9:05 AM CDT reply actions

Do you expect anything different?

No matter what, whoever wins the SEC championship, which Florida has a good chance to do, is going to get more publicity from ESPN than Michael Jackson is getting now from everyone. Even if we are undefeated and Florida has one loss, Tebow will be looked at as the greatest thing ever.

Heisman winners have not doen well in bowls

So I’m OK with Tebow winning it so we can get our revenge just like 05.

Christian only won the Thorpe....

Because I play his character on NCAA 2010. Otherwise, Chykie probably would have won it. He had like 6 int’s in the season.

by texasfan05 on Jul 17, 2009 1:05 PM CDT up reply actions

I was talking about relating that to real life

I’m sure you played very well with Scott :). Heck, I’m sure people out there could have Ryan Palmer win the Thorpe, although it is notoriously hard sometimes to play cornerback in those games.

by TheElusiveShadow on Jul 17, 2009 1:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Hmmm Real life....

I bet Earl or Chykie would have the best chance to win it. I’ve played B-ball with Earl, and met his mom, he’s a real cool guy. So I’d root for him.

But I know Christian, and I wish he actually would win the Thorpe, that would be awesome.

I always had a great time playing corner in the one-on-one cover drills in the pre-season, but yeah, it’s a lot harder in gameplay.

by burntorangehorn on Jul 17, 2009 1:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Dang, I'm impressed

I can switch to my CB / S right when I see a ball go up in the air, but I could never play as a DB from the start to the end of a play.

by TXinDC on Jul 17, 2009 1:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I love it

I feel like it gives me complete control of the field. If I see a run, I can get there and make the tackle. If I see a pass I can either blitz, or drop back and make sure nobody catches anything around me. CB would be very hard to play, by SS I think is pretty awesome.

What pos do you play on the game?

by texasfan05 on Jul 17, 2009 1:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, I'm only just getting ready to buy NCAA2010

I’ve been on NCAA 2008 since NCAA 2009 came out.

I play DE but I haven’t figured out EA’s system for ‘power moves’ and all that jazz, but I still manage to sack well enough. Otherwise I like to play MLB so I can stuff runs, pick up anything underneath, or blitz through any holes that show up.

I love the game because it teaches me a lot about the fundamentals of football personnel/formations for someone who’s never actually seen the field.

Chykie for Thorpe Award.

Is it wrong for me to be as excited about this secondary

as I was about the Griffins, Ross, Brown, and Huff a few years ago?

by future_longhorn_dad on Jul 17, 2009 10:09 AM CDT reply actions

No

While it’s perhaps unrealistic to expect our secondary to be as strong as they were in 2005, since those guys were all juniors and seniors, this is certainly a very talented and deep secondary with a lot of potential. I’m very excited about them.

by TheElusiveShadow on Jul 17, 2009 10:15 AM CDT up reply actions

This Secondary will be one of the greats when their done.

Chykie and Aaron Williams have the physical attributes to be NFL CB’s and I’m sure scouts are already drooling over them. and Earl Thomas is already an amazing Safety. Hopefully Christian can prove he belongs.

by texasfan05 on Jul 17, 2009 1:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Either that

or he continually looks for Crabtree on the field somewhere, hoping he just shows up to save the day, and then they decide to use a minced Potts for hamburgers rather than sending him back to Lubbock.

by future_longhorn_dad on Jul 17, 2009 11:51 AM CDT up reply actions

Because Potts went to my high school

As did one of his receivers, Lylle Leong, I wish him well. However, it is likely that Potts will have a painful introduction to DKR Stadium. I just hope he doesn’t get hurt.

Championship Game

Absolutely not!
You forgot how Florida was up 1-2 scores late in the fourth and in typical Texas fashion we make clutch first down after clutch first down 2 minute drill style. Finally winning the game in the final 30 seconds.

People are so confused they what to think because Texas just doesn’t loose bowl games. And they always win them in end of the fourth quarter (expect ASU, they were incredibly over ranked and had no business playing UT).

by Longhorn@Berkeley on Jul 17, 2009 11:26 AM CDT reply actions

I think, for once

we put to rest the overly dramatic finishes and all the talk about us “barely” winning. Some domination over a really good SEC team might even shut up the USC and Big 10 types over who should have played who in the NC.

by future_longhorn_dad on Jul 17, 2009 11:48 AM CDT up reply actions

Also, I don’t know how many more seasons my heart can take of pulling out last minute ins against Mich, USC, Iowa (wtf?), and tOSU. You’re heart is only designed to take one of those types of games every 5 years. Not 4 in 5. Throw in a few last minute wins in the regular season against Kansas, Nebraska, ect, and a heart crushing defeat in Lubbock, and I’m pretty sure I have the heart of an 80 year old. I don’t expect to make it much longer.

by UT_BKC on Jul 17, 2009 1:19 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree

in 20 years theres gonna be a huge drop off in Texas fans…. because we’ll all be 40 years old having heart attacks thanks to these teams.

by texasfan05 on Jul 17, 2009 1:22 PM CDT up reply actions

I can see the headlines now:

Federal Agents Quarentine UT Campus

The common link between the outbreak of deaths caused heart attacks: all the deceased went to the University of Texas at Austin. Federal agents have the campus shut down and are now testing everything from the water and air to back ground radiation at the country’s top rated university. Coach Will “Boom-Mutha-eFfa” Muschamp, coach of the 16 time National Champions, said that practices this summer will be moved to a location TBD. He declined to comment or speculate on the cause of the deaths, although he did mumble something about needing to decide a successor because his heart couldn’t take much more either.

I have had 50 years of heart attacks

I have been following the Horns since my freshman year in 1959, there have been a lot of games that have gone down to the wire both wins and losses. I just enjoy watching the Horns.

I'll take it.

Game not realistic.

Was there any controversy at the end of the year as to whether OU should go to the NC game anyway?

Plus

was there any video of multiple plans flying over mulitple cities with various messages behind them?
