NCAA 2010 Player Ratings
Ok, so this post is going to force me to disclose how big of a geek I am, but hey, its the off season, work is slow, what do you want from me?
This year, EA Sports is allowing gamers to build their own schools online. Create a program, customize, and then import it into the game when the game comes out. So I'm looking around in there (just curious, honest!) and see that you can use real teams as templates. Here is the link to Team Builder, but I think you have to have an EA account to view (doesn't cost anything though). And now that I've shamed myself, your 2010 Texas Longhorns (in descending order by Overall Rating).

Some interesting omissions, especially with the Freshman. I'm sure that the community here will be able to help me fill in the blanks. I didn't spend too much time on this, so I apologize for spelling errors. I had to match up some numbers off of MBTF, but this should be 90ish percent accurate. Enjoy.

Greg Smith an 84?
I’m more familiar with Madden than NCAA, but isn’t that a bit too high? Especially when Okafor is an 80 and DJ Grant is an 82?
And I sure hope EA is right about Irby.

Yeah, its way off.
I know that my second TE will be DJ Grant regardless.

I can’t imagine who #76 is supposed to be. My best guess is Poehlmann, who I believe will actually be a RS-Fr. What’s the size listed for this mystery tackle?
My guess on #99 is Jarvis Humphrey. That was his number before he had to withdraw, wasn’t it?
CB #23 is probably Vaccaro or Barnett. You’ll probably have to compare the size.
OLB #17 is probably Tariq Allen, no?

Oh, and Greg Smith at 84 seems odd. That number looks as though EA is just compensating for the lack of a decent TE on the team, other than Irby.
Speaking of Irby, dude’s at least a 90 when he’s healthy, I think. They probably didn’t rate him below that because of what should be a temp injury, even if he’s not back soon.

Thanks for the help!
- is listed as 6-5, 295.
99 has to be Jarvis Humphrey.
CB #23 is listed as 5-10, 190. Doesn’t really match either Vaccaro or Barnett.
OLB #17 is definitely Tariq Allen.
I’ll update the post accordingly. Thanks again!

Something’s odd about Barnett. He’s not listed on MBTF at all, is he?
Marcus Davis is #23 on MBTF. What number is he on the game? Do you think you might have him and the mysterious #23 mixed up, or is the guy you picked out as Davis definitely Davis?
by burntorangehorn on Jul 2, 2009 11:06 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
You're exactly right
I had Vaccaro as Davis. I’ll update again. Thanks!

What did they rate Poehlmann's sweet ass mullet?

Hales
I hope his speed is ranked pretty high because I plan on putting him in over Kirkendoll or Collins. After watching him live in some of his high school games, and on tv against klein forest i developed a man crush. I hope he gets a lot of touches this season

I’m curious about where he and Monroe are listed. They’re both WRs on MBTF, but I’d think one or both might be moved: Monroe to DB and or Hales to RB.
by burntorangehorn on Jul 2, 2009 10:46 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Hales and Monroe are both WR.
We have 9, count ‘em, 9 WR’s.
by ctex80 on Jul 2, 2009 10:51 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would agree
I’m suprised Monroe isn’t already listed at DB, isn’t that were he played in the AA game? Like i said in an earlier post i see Hales filling a similar role to Romance Taylor.
by shaqui chan on Jul 2, 2009 10:51 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That’s exactly where I want Hales. I think he has that kind of stuff. Thinking Taylor or maybe Dexter McCluster. Not thinking Fragile Percy, as many are wont to do.
Monroe seems like the ideal nickel. I guess I haven’t seen him try to get physical yet, but if he can, he could be Aaron Ross or a faster Vasher.

I can't wait for the TT game
I’m feeling like Potts’ ratio of passes completed downfield 10+ yards to turnovers should be right around 2.5 or 3.

Never Fear
There is nothing geeky about NCAA player stats. Just don’t bring any 20-sided dice up in here.
Onwards… My play will really be dictated by Colt’s “ball control” score. I hate to waste some of our WR talent, but with that kind of line skill, I’m inclined to do some 1 WR 2 TE 2 RB and just roll right half the time with some triple option shenanigans as my base play…. Should set up some man coverage on the left with Shipley or Malcolm Williams if the safety ever comes in for the run stop.
Yes, I am fantasizing about NCAA 10. Thanks for asking.

Also some ratings of interest...
Bradford and Tebow are both 99’s. I know its silly, but I hope that motivates Colt.
Gresham from OU is a 99 also (deservedly so, I hate him, but he’s amazing).
Taylor Potts is an 85
Colt is an 84 on speed, Tebow 84, Bradford 78 (that’s bs, Colt is faster than Tebow, and WAY faster than Bradford.
Kindle is a DE, and an 88 speed. I will be wrecking shit accordingly.

Tip.
On defense with Kindle, I run a 4-4 making him an OLB/DE hybrid, and run one play all season: Crash Gold, with Kindle always on the SS.
Its fun.

LOL
Thanks, EA. Florida’s fullback quarterback is as fast as Colt? I think not… I would be interested in a Colt/Predator footrace, though.
by Tackchevy on Jul 2, 2009 11:12 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I think Colt’s pretty fast for a QB, but I don’t think he’s fast compared to any other non-OL position. Kindle by a mile.

Texas is good.
I’ll be buying it on the ps2.
by KurtF on Jul 2, 2009 2:52 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I wish Rak was on the cover for 360, like he is on PS2.
I have to buy something with Crabtree on it. (shudder)
by ctex80 on Jul 2, 2009 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I wish Rak was on the PS3 cover. I don't know who is on that cover but it ain't RAK.
I even named my son Kolt. no kidding

Could be worse. You could be stuck with the PSP version.

very true
Seriously though, what did Sanchez accomplish that he deserves the cover?
I even named my son Kolt. no kidding

Good question. Furthermore, what did Sanchez accomplish that he deserved all the hype during the NFL draft coverage?
I can only think of one answer: he won the starting job at USC. But then, what happened to Booty?
by burntorangehorn on Jul 3, 2009 11:19 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
very true,
I wondered that myself during the draft. ESPN acted like he’d won the national championship or something. Oh well now it will be between Mustain and I dont know to get the “best college qb” award for attending usc.
I even named my son Kolt. no kidding

Looks like Aaron Corp. Mustain’s finding the grass no greener.
by burntorangehorn on Jul 4, 2009 8:54 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly....sounds like Mustain is behind Corp and Barkley right now.
by junglerules on Jul 4, 2009 12:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I can’t help but indulge in a little Schadenfreude over Mustain. I only wish it were going the same for Damian Williams, although 58/869/9TDs is a performance he could’ve easily surpassed in Arkansas.

Maybe I'm a little biased but...
Brian Johnson’s from Texas, graduated HS at the age of 17 (skipped 3rd grade—very smart kid). His only full season as a starter ended up with a perfect season and a Sugar bowl win over Nick Saban’s Tide (thank God!) Don’t get me wrong, I wish Rak was on the console that I own…but for me to see the picture of a kid who lived 4 houses down from me on the cover of NCAA Football 2010…thats one hell of a consolation prize. And ALOT better than having to see Crabtree or Sanchez. I was surprised Stafford wasn’t on there either. Or Percy Harvin.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

ima big ncaa football fan.. where did u get this info??

It looks like the reason Barnett (and Gilbert, Graham, Howell, etc.) aren’t on the MBTF roster is because they weren’t spring enrollments. Strange that after freshman move-in day they’re still not on the roster.

re: Okafor being too low
I read in one of the ncaa10 development blogs that the developers purposely wanted to make sure lots of freshman weren’t starting TOO high in their rankings. Otherwise, sophomore were becoming mid to upper 90’s in ratings. So, they set out to really try to focus on players developing over the scope of their entire career. I’ll be interested in seeing how it plays out in the game.
Otherwise, the ratings are pretty interesting. Can’t say that I see any horrible ratings. I was kinda surprised the non-Shipley wr’s were in the upper 80’s/ low 90’s, although I think they have the potential. Most of them just haven’t proven it yet. Texas is going to be damn good on this game, though.
by junglerules on Jul 3, 2009 1:38 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
It’s not confusing to see Okafor low…except that he’s rated below lower-rated prospects like Davis and Whaley.
by burntorangehorn on Jul 3, 2009 1:54 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ahhh....that makes sense
In that context, I get what you are saying. By the same token, then, Gilbert should be rated higher, too, or those other fellows should probably be lower. Regardless, looking forward to the game. My friends and I get lots of play out of online dynasty on ’09.
