I am not sure if he was just trying to stir the pot, but the Houston Chronicle's RJ says...

"Don't be shocked if Texas finishes 8-4 this season leading to the largest whinefest ever for Texas fans".  Now while his email might have to been to rile me up (as he always goes against UT), I can't imagine how Mr. Justice could come up with this conclusion rationally barring injury (to a member of the football team not to RJ himself)?  I mean at my most pessimistic, I can only come up with the logical possibility of two losses: OU based on sheer talent and OSU on returning experience.  As far as the other conference opponents: Colorado and TAMU are still rebuilding; Baylor is two years from being real scary; Kansas may be in a heap of trouble if their leading WR is declared academically ineligible; and Missouri and Tech have too many new pieces to their puzzles to be a serious threat.  Perhaps RJ was just trying to get the Longhorns blogs a blazin' with such nonsense, but I would love to hear other Longhorns chime in on how Texas in 2009 could lose four regular season games based on the talent they have vs. the other teams on the schedule & their talent (again barring injury)?

I've found it to be a good policy to ignore everything Richard Justice says.

He writes exclusively to get people mad and drive page hits to his blog. He’s indiscriminate in his flaming. Plus he’s an awful writer.

And one more thing...

Loved you on this past season of “Samantha Who?”! =)

Couldn't agree more

I have purposefully not read anything by him the past few years.

This is Richard's way of balancing the scales

(in his mind) . . . He knows what Texas will be, and he knows he’ll write some gushy columns and blogs as a result. This is his way to convince himself — and maybe a few readers — that he can be negative sometimes.

Columnist’s trick. Nothing more.

It Takes A Large Spoon To So Vigorously Stir The Pot

It only makes sense that the stirrer would be a man with a name as rugged as Richard Justice. Poetry in motion.

If Colt does get hurt..

I still only think two teams can beat Texas witout him (OSU and ou).

"(as he always goes against UT)"

Really? I don’t think so. He’s on 1560 AM almost everyday in Houston and he is a big Longhorn guy. I think he even has a daughter currently at UT. He is much more enjoyable to listen to than to read. He’s just getting people riled up.

I've been fuelin' my dreams eatin' greens and beans.

RJ

Is an intelligent writer who does pull for Texas more times than not. However, most of his colomuns on college sports are designed to ruffle the feathers of some group for hits and comments. He actually has some insightful comments when it comes to the Astros.

But I would agree with the sentiment on here as he’s mainly trying to stir the pot for readership.

I don't even know who this jerk-off is...

so if he is trying to stir the pot for readership…it isn’t working very well.

RJ = UT alum

Of course, he is stirring the pot. As a fellow UT alum, RJ is just checking the reaction of the rest of the Longhorn faithful to a truly horrific season. My guess is most people just don’t think Texas can lose that many games this year, regardless of injury.

I would say OU is more likely to have 4 losses than we are...

Not just because I want to complete the 2005=2009 circle, but because you can more easily identify potential losses on their schedule. BYU at a neutral site as the first game is risky. Miami will be at home, so give them the puncher’s chance. They have the two likely contenders for the North division title on the road (Nebraska and Kansas). They also play Tech in Lubbock in mid-November. While I think we kill Tech in September at home, they will have had a full season to get their timing down and will be hungry for revenge in Lubbock, especially if OU has already shown chinks in their armor. Could you imagine a supposed pro-OU journalist suggesting a 6-6 season for the Sooners? While it is improbable I doubt it is much more improbable than us losing 4 considering our schedule.

Justice

recently wrote a blog post arguing that A&M should be put in CUSA. He was stirring the pot then (boy, did he ever!), and he is stirring the pot with the 8-4 comment

hmmmmm

I could see someone making that prediction before the 2008 season, but not 2009.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would be the two most likely losses.

In order to hit 4 losses, you’d have to choose two upsets, and while I can see why a writer might think A&M in College Station could be a possible minefield for texas, I don’t think too many of them are ready to declare Baylor ready to upset texas.

If it is completely outside the bounds of reality, then yeah, it is just him trying to stir the pot.

If this year's game wasn't in College Station...

I’d probably be more worried about Baylor, to be completely honest. While I’m not completely on the Baylor bandwagon yet (maybe a bowl game), Griffin is just a freak athlete that can take over a game.

Just because you went to UT...

doesn’t mean you have to be a fan. RJ and I exchanged emails several times last season and he always picked UT to lose the big games including the Fiesta Bowl. He only hit the Tech game right. If he is a UT fan, then he is pulling the ultimate wrestling move by waiting to almost the end to unmask & reveal his Longhorn tattoo and give a chair shot to Billy Sims at the next Heisman Trophy presentation! :)

Perhaps he Overcorrects

due to the fact that he is a Longhorn…

McCoy

If he goes down, 8-4 would be a good result.

I still think we could finish 9-3 with GG or even 10-2

have you seen our schedule? I think it was Pat Forde, but someone on ESPN pointed out how last year we played 4 straight top-11 teams, but this year we probably wont play 4 top-11 teams the whole year.

by Horns09 on Jul 31, 2009 11:32 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't know

That is a lot to ask a “true” freshman to do. I think if Colt gets hurt, our ten win streak will be over, unless our defense is the fear inducing juggernaut that Coach Boom wants it to be.
