Texas-OU Gameday Signs

I know Texas-OU is a while away and isn't guaranteed GameDay (although it will almost certainly get it), but I was thinking we should get a little ammo ready for Texas-OU. We have obvious things to make fun of, such as Bob Stoops' bowl record, Justin Chaisson's screwdriver , Oklahoma's worthless academics, the fact that the state of Oklahoma is comprised entirely of two cities and an Indian Casino, etc, but I'm sure we can think of even more creative ones. Anybody want to post some ideas?

I have sign that's more of a question:

Why is it OU if you’re the University of Oklahoma?

by pleaseplaykindle on Jul 7, 2009 11:41 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m not sure why they were such fascists about it, but it was a Big 8 requirement. All of the original Big 8 schools follow the same naming conventions.

by BrooklynSooner on Jul 8, 2009 12:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Indiana University might be the only school in the nation that does not, in fact.

Leaving out the "State" schools...

University of Colorado – CU
University of Kansas – KU
University of Missouri – MU
University of Nebraska – NU
University of Oklahoma – OU

I always thought CU did it

to avoid confusion with California.

Not bad, but...

I used to tease my brothers (both Florida alums) and call it UFAG – University of Florida At Gainesville. Sometimes I’d call them the Gaaaaytors. OK, so it’s a bit immature. I’ve outgrown it, I swear.

by Meekrob on Jul 8, 2009 4:14 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Umm...illicit content warning...

Not that I condone making fun of people’s sexual orientation, but the UFAG acronym is pretty solid. They have this intense annual clash with the Florida State Semen-holes. What’s a little more freaky is those aTm people…

Does this mean the Aggies have been right all along?

And does it mean TAMU is really Tampico University?

UO is too similar to BO?

Or they are just stupid…I never understood this either. I think it is just that they are stupid.

I’m sorry that I don’t share the same tolerance for racism that you do, RBR.

I’ll edit my previous post:

MJY6087, the offensive ignorance of the last two racist comments you’ve written on BON Fanposts reflect poorly on your fanbase. While it’s disappointing that most BONers tolerate this behavior, I appreciate burntorangehorn’s stand against intolerance.

i find it ironic that a guy with a handlebar mustache and a do-rag can be so elitist

by acho81 on Jul 9, 2009 4:44 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Here’s an elitist word for you: sardonic.

by BrooklynSooner on Jul 9, 2009 5:05 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Most BONers...

…do not support racism just because someone pointed out that you completely contradicted yourself. We have few rules here, but one of them is no direct insulting of other members for any reason. MJY’s comment was handled below with a thoughtful discussion. Follow that example next time, please.

by Horn Brain on Jul 9, 2009 5:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You're win

Clearly, by my comments, I’m a racist.
We’ll say the score was 45-35

I LOVE the screwdriver sign.

We should make 1,000 of those and just hand them out to the whole Texas section. And it works on several different levels too!

Perhaps I’m missing something, and I’m not normally the PC police, but what’s with all the Indian/native insults?

Expansion.

As the site has gotten bigger, some of that has unfortunately moved in.

Should've used more discretion

I remember that quote from a Fan Post last year before Texas-OU week. No offense meant, just thought it was funny.

by DMH on Jul 8, 2009 1:09 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even though I'm Asian

I don’t often mind ethnic jokes as long as they are clever and not overly insulting. An OU fan in Dallas one year told me to fix his Nintendo for him after I pointed out a contradiction in his argument, which I actually laughed at. I didn’t think your post was all that offensive; it’s making fun of the state of Oklahoma, not Native Americans.

However, the one about Bradford’s mom doesn’t strike me as clever. Is it by nature bad that somebody works at a casino or something?

by TheElusiveShadow on Jul 8, 2009 4:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was thinking the same thing...

There’s an inherent assumption there that working at a casino is a bad thing.

So either:

1. You have no such preconceived notions about casino employees — and then its not a joke.
2. You do have such notions — and then its a mildly racist joke.

The fact of the matter is, the mildly racist joke is also only mildly funny…

by pleaseplaykindle on Jul 8, 2009 4:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You do have to admit

Their uniforms for the most part suck and do deserved to be made fun of.

by run Bevo run on Jul 8, 2009 4:53 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ll fully admit that I’m not above a racist joke, but it’s usually one targeted toward a friend of mine when we’re within closed doors and are comfortable with knowing that we don’t actually think badly of each other’s heritage. No problem there. Hell, I’m Dutch, so my wife can always fire up something about wooden shoes, windmills, and tulips, and she’s Polish, so I’ve hit the motherlode.

The issue is with the racist jokes when the person telling it isn’t on good terms or even acquainted with the target, isn’t it? And although there’s nothing generally wrong with working in a casino, picking cotton, doing motel maid service, being a cab driver, or otherwise living up to a racial stereotype, I think your take on the preconceived notions illustrates the problem.

I thought the cotton gin was just for removing seeds. No?

by burntorangehorn on Jul 8, 2009 5:40 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

I think its the thresher he’s referring to?

I learned about it in my Alabama history class…

by pleaseplaykindle on Jul 8, 2009 5:40 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually, I think the gin just separates seeds from harvested cotton. I think the harvesting itself is generally mechanical though. Nonetheless, it’s an appropriate analogy.

by burntorangehorn on Jul 8, 2009 5:42 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Unfortunately

I believe the cotton gin actually made slavery worse. Because it made producing more cotton possible, there was a higher need for labor to go pick the cotton.

I love this site, I swear I do

But seriously, won’t one of our recruits throw us a bone and commit already so that we actually have some football to discuss…Franklin in the house? D. White, Jeffcoat, Hicks…someone, please!

The attempts to insult a rival in a p.c. manner are funny, but football, please give me some football. We are on like a 3 mo. dry spell and it is killing me.

I hear ya, but be careful what you wish for.

I think a Longhorn media dry spell, while quite boring, is much better than some of the alternatives. Remember the summer of 2007? I believe there were 6 players arrested from June to September. No, I don’t mind the dry spell
