Darius White is waiting
Bumped. Anyone know anything about UT's architectural engineering program? --PB--
Has this been posted in anything? I think him waiting is good news for Texas. We have time to make a last impression. We also have a large group of recievers on their way out of the program. Not to mention GG and about 7 5star OL's.
Any new news/thoughts on this kid?

My fault didn't mean to post that
That’s Dunbar’s schedule. Anyone coming to the Texas/OU game can watch him play the night before in Fort Worth.

The numbers at WR going into this season are as follows.
8 freshmen, including Fitzhenry, Goodwin (won’t count until 2010, I believe), Hales, McCrary (non-schol), McNamara (non-schol), Monroe, Timmons, and Torbert (non-schol).
2 Sophomores, including Buckner and Williams
4 Juniors, including Collins, Kirkendoll, Chiles, and Payne (non-schol now?)
3 Seniors, including Shipley, Vergari (non-schol), and Zych
Heading into White’s freshman season, that means nine (eleven if you count Goodwin and Payne) scholarship receivers will remain from classes ahead of him, plus he’ll be joined by John Harris, Chris Jones, and possible TE Darius Terrell.
I still think UT’s a player, but I don’t think the depth chart is the biggest draw.

Goodwin
It is unlikely that he will see the field this season. Whenever he steps onto the football field in a game he will count against the football scholarship limits.
Payne is still on scholarship.

Ahem…
Goodwin (won’t count until 2010, I believe)

Goodwin is an amazing athlete
Even if we use him on special teams he is probably well worth the scholly. How much is a blocked punt worth? Does anyhone know if he has been practicing with the team at all?
I watched his videos last year and remember be surprised that he seemed to have really good hands to go along wtih that spead. Would love to see that speedster on the field.

Shipley, Collins, Kirkendoll, Chiles
That is the group that is on their way out that I mentioned in the post. Shipley will be done this year, and assuming none of the latter 3 go NFL, they will all be gone after Darius’s Freshman year. Yeah it is a long list, but Is anyone else on that list going to scare White? Hales? Timmons? Buckner and Williams? I don’t know, I am just asking. But I would’t think so.
As a freshman, he would see the field. As a sophemore, he could be the number 1 reciever. At least that is what I would be thinking if I saw that list.

When White would be a sophomore (or RS-Fr), Malcolm Williams and Dan Buckner would be seniors (unless we were to see a mid-career redshirt for Buckner), Monroe and Hales would be juniors, and Timmons would be a redshirt sophomore or true junior. I guess it’s entirely possible that White would start over all of them (plus Fitzhenry et al), but I’m not sure how that could be perceived as an easy depth chart to top.

I have a thought on him
he’s a stud and would definitely help out Texas’ class.

Not sure if this is news..
Jason Suchomel has report up on OB about White and had this to say..
White said he talked to Chambers last week. White called the coaches just to check in to see how things were going. Said it wasn’t anything earth shattering.
I guess the good news is White made the call, instead of the coaches.

UT's architectural engineering program is supposed to be very good
So sayeth my ex, the architect, but apparently things become complex when it comes to being a true AE, and being able to design buildings in competition with architects. This is all I know if you want to go down the rabbit hole.

Justin McCay committed to OU
I just made a post about this. I’m not sure if he is going to play WR or OLB. But, my guess is that if he wants to play WR at OU that he would be stiff competition for D. White. They are similar in size and use at WR. This may help us when comparing the competition at WR from a depth chart viewpoint.

Architectural Engineering
i have an architectural engineering degree from UT (1989). it is a branch of the civil engineering department. we are basically structural engineers who have some architectural background (MUCH more engineer than architect). i believe there are 16 ABET accredited AE programs in the US. UT has one of the best programs. OSU also has a good program. the good news is that zero-U does not have such a program…at least not an accredited one. i doubt that any degrees they offer are accredited by anyone outside of Bubba & his friend Goober.

US News and World Report publishes their yearly review on the best colleges in the US. They do not publish an architectural engineering review, however, in their civil engineering review(which arc engineering is a part of), we are ranked 4th in the country.
1 University of Illinois—Urbana-Champaign Champaign, IL
2 University of California—Berkeley Berkeley, CA
3 Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cambridge, MA
4 University of Texas—Austin Austin, TX
5 Georgia Institute of Technology Atlanta, GA
6 Stanford University Stanford, CA
7t Purdue University—West Lafayette West Lafayette, IN
7t University of Michigan—Ann Arbor Ann Arbor, MI
9 Cornell University Ithaca, NY
10 Texas A&M University—College Station College Station, TX
Now I guess the aggies stand a chance, since they are the only other school in the top ten that is interested in White.
OU does have an architectural engineering program:

UT #1
I got my BS Arch Eng (1993) and MS Eng (2000), and it’s a world class program and easily the best in the country. As you note, there are very few ABET accredited AE programs. OSU and OU both offer degrees in AE, but USC does not.
As for the delaying his decision until NSD, I mentioned this in another post…think half glass full. Texas will be in contention for the national championship all season long. If everything falls Texas’ way, we’ll be playing Florida at the Rose Bowl on January 7; OU will lose another bowl game (Cotton, Holiday?).
The pride and winning tradition of The University of Texas will not be entrusted to the weak or the timid.

The article has been linked in another post, but I don’t think we can ever talk to much about White in burnt orange.

Thanks
I was looking for it in BDR but couldn’t find it. Forgot it was in Big Roy’s post. But yeah, I’m with you: hard not to keep talking about the kid.

Waiting is not a good thing for Texas
When he’s hanging around with Lache, Shaun Lewis, and the baggage that follows them.

Nothing.
Same as it has been. I think it’s way too late for the Longhorns to try to get back into even if they were so inclined and it certainly doesn’t seem like they are.

I disagree...
with all the folks saying that White waiting until NSD is bad for Texas. We aren’t talking about historic trends, but rather a specific situation. This is a guy who is admittedly leaning towards our biggest rival so if he made a decision today, it would be for them… the longer he waits the more opportunity we have to recruit him and for him to change his mind. It might not happen, but the door is being left open.
by BSnyder on Aug 12, 2009 7:50 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
This! Agree 100%...
If this were six months earlier, I would of course feel differently…He is an OU lean and the longer this stretches out the better chance we have of getting him to lean back in our direction. I imagine his two buddies will have to commit sooner rather than later since most of the top teams who have given them offers will probably start pushing their mid-tier offers to commit soon or lose out on a spot. White can wait until NSD since his favorites will keep a spot for him no matter what.

OU and UT WR rosters
So here are the rosters and new recruits for both OU and UT:
OU
Ryan Broyles WR 5-11 175 So. (Walk on?)
Brandon Caleb WR 6-2 196 Jr. 3*
Caro, Ryan WR 5-8 165 Fr. (Walk on?)
T.J. Hamilton WR 5-11 194 Sr. (Walk on?)
Rashad Hutchins WR 5-10 180 So. (Walk on?)
Kenney, Cameron WR 6-1 190 Jr. 4*
Dejuan Miller WR 6-5 200 So. 4*
Jameel Owens WR 6-3 200 So. 4*
Reynolds, Jaz WR 6-2 181 Fr. 3*
Adron Tennell WR 6-4 191 Sr. 4*
Carter Whitson WR 5-11 182 Sr. (Walk on?)
Corey Wilson WR 6-1 182 So. 3*
Sheldon McClain 3* (WR)
Trey Franks 3* (ATH-but probably a slot receiver)
Justin McCay 4* (ATH-but probably a WR)
Joe Powell 3* (ATH-but probably a WR)
UT
Dan Buckner WR 6-4 213 So. 4*
John Chiles WR 6-2 215 Jr. 4* (QB)
Brandon Collins WR 6-0 170 Jr. 4*
Brock Fitzhenry WR 5-9 171 RS-Fr. 3* (RB)
Marquis Goodwin WR 5-9 170 Fr. 3* (Track)
DeSean Hales WR 5-11 175 RS-Fr. 4* (RB)
James Kirkendoll WR 5-11 175 Jr. 4*
D.J. Monroe WR 5-9 165 RS-Fr. 4* (DB)
Philip Payne WR 6-2 207 Jr. 4*
Jordan Shipley WR 6-0 190 Sr. 4*
Greg Timmons WR 6-3 196 Fr. 4*
Malcolm Williams WR 6-3 218 So. 4*
John Harris 4*
Chris Jones 4*
Darius Terrell 3* (will end up a TE)
So it looks like we have a bit more on the farm than OU who look to have 10 schollie WRs (let me know if I am wrong about the walk-ons) and recruits to our 14 (not counting Goodwin). Both teams will graduate one guy this year. Neither team is sporting 5* talent (according to Rivals). OU does look like they have a collection of tall guys while we have a bunch of slot receiver/converted RB and DB-types. White will come in with Williams, Buckner, and Timmons ahead of him here (I would be surprised if Payne is still with the team for much longer), while I’ll admit I don’t know who on OU’s roster would likely be White’s direct competition for playing time.
I guess I don’t see much here that suggests White would look at the rosters and in-coming recruits and think that OU offers any obvious advantages. Now if Williams and Buckner both excel this year, while OU has trouble with its receiving corp, White might see a better chance of playing immediately with the Sooners. Let’s hope the opposite doesn’t occur.

Thanks for compiling that list of WRs
I agree that depth shouldn’t really be a factor for a five star recruit. If he is so great he should be anxious to compete with the rest of them.

I don't know that depth will be a factor for him
but I did read somewhere that he wanted to go somewhere he could play right away.

Yeah, he said something about not wanting to go and sit on the bench
It made me think he wasn’t much of a team player at first, but he’s young and wants to play and everyone wants to play. I’m not sure he really meant that it was his determining factor.
I really hope that he isn’t set on playing with his HS friends.
A long time ago I read that his girlfriend was allegedly going to Texas, but I have no idea if that is true or if it was totally made up. This would be a great advantage if true and if they are still together.
