Just a reminder
... that any team (including Texas) is just one torn ACL (or bruised neck) away from dropping out of the ranks of national title contenders. Let's just appreciate the joy of watching the games this Fall and not get insanely wrapped up in the championship hype! Can you imagine what a waste it would be if we've waiting for 8 months for the season to start, only to be totally depressed for the rest of the year if one key player goes down and takes an undefeated season with him? Is our passion for the sport only validated by championships?

Personally
I hate talking about championship potential. I’m nervous about the RRR, I’m nervous about UTEP, hell, I’m nervous about Louisiana. Assuming things about where you’re going to be in 4 months is bad luck; setting a goal of where you WANT to be in 4 months is much more reasonable.
I remember enjoying the heck out of the 2007 season (even though I did miss the 3 losses), because it’s amazing to watch Texas football, no matter the circumstances or the potential or the star power. Soccer may be the beautiful game, but football is the game of strategy and I love watching that – which is why I’ll stay up til 1AM on a Thursday to watch Houston go up against Ball State or some other unranked match. It’s just fun to watch.
Thanks for the reality check!
Totally agree
I hope to enjoy the lead-up and the games. Hope the trip to Dallas ends positively, and then think about 2005 type things around the end of October — if that door remains open.
