Gilbert is now second team QB
Bumped. As has been said several times here, Harris needed to show clear separation to make the case over Gilbert. Would be good to see the competition battle stay hot, regardless. No word yet on the severity of Harris' injury. --PB--

Harris
is starting is look injury-prone. Great kid from all accounts and loyal to Texas (or he would have left already), but I just don’t see him as a major threat to start over Gilbert next year.

Tight End?
I am not being a wiseguy although adding another injured player to tight end seems like it. I don’t think his injury is that serious and he should be able to play this year.
Doesn’t he have the size and speed for tight end, together with the offensive knowledge? Or does the blocking ability required for tight end make this an improbable move?
Not likely
At 6-3, 215, Harris is theoretically about big enough to give it a whirl, Texas will not throw his body into the tight end mix. He’s needed as a back up quarterback, alongside Gilbert. It’d be an unnecessary, unhelpful move.

Thanks for answering
I was trying to decide if I was totally off base—but with Chiles still actually available if God forbid something happened at QB and we were desperate—I was thinking that maybe Harris was a consideration because of his athleticism. It would be great to see him get some time on the field as he has been a good team player.
I'm looking forward to watching Gilbert try some throws against LM
I hope Mack doesn’t make him just hand off the ball in garbage time. I’m not saying he has to go long, but let the guy make some reads.
let him throw a dozen or two short 5 to 15 yard routes, milk the clock, but throw the ball. let him get comfortable with the timing of college games.

LM will not get him comfortable with the timing of college games
he gets better competition against the walk-ons at practice.
i was talking about all season long in games we’ve locked up.

hopefully Sherrod makes a quick recovery
By all accounts the guy has worked hard and given a lot to the program. I’m as excited to see Gilbert as everybody else, but the Horns need the depth. I hope he can at least get some more real game experience this year.
