Texas #2 in AP poll, receives two 1st-place votes
Florida grabs 58 of 60 first place votes, the largest preseason margin in the history of the AP poll.
However a look at history shows that AP number one gives no guarantee. Georgia in 2008, USC in 2007, Ohio State in 2006, USC in 2005, and OU in 2004 all failed to seize the crystal ball when ranked number one.

Only two have gone wire-to-wire in the BCS era. Florida is not going to make it three.
2008 Florida 5
2007 LSU 2
2006 Florida 6
2005 Texas 2
2004 USC 1
2003 USC 8
2002 Ohio St. 13
2001 Miami, Fla. 2
2000 Oklahoma 19
1999 Florida St. 1
1998 Tennessee 10

If you're going to use the BCS era
then you should use the BCS champ from 2003 and not the AP champ. So that being said, where was LSU ranked in the initial poll of 2003?

I think Florida's got a very good shot at another title match up
… and a good shot at winning it.

Anyone know who voted Texas #1??
I know it’s not secret, just don’t know if that info is available at this point.

Yeah he has a vote
and during the season I think usually on Tuesday’s in the Statesman it shows how he voted.

2005 redux
Here’s to beating FL for the championship!

Another analogy to 2005
The MNC beats/dominates OU the preceding season followed by Texas beating the former MNC.
The pride and winning tradition of The University of Texas will not be entrusted to the weak or the timid.

I like that
I forgot that USC had spanked OU 55-19 the prior year. That was another year the BCS was left looking foolish with Auburn going 13-0 and being left out in the cold like Utah. Hmmm. Let’s get these planets aligned again.

i thought of another one
OU’s opener was against a MWC team both years. TCU then, BYU now. Go Cougars!

as soon as OU beats BYU in Dallas
expect us to be jumped no matter what we do to La-Monroe

I doubt that
I’d worry more about Ohio State or USC jumping us if one or the other lays a beat down in the second week. Especially USC if they put on a strong showing.
I think we stay at #2 until it’s proven otherwise. Everyone has already made up their minds about UT/OU, and they expect us both to stay undefeated until Dallas.

I don't think OU will jump us
Unless we squeak by in one of our early games and OU blows out both BYU and Miami on the road.

TT
Texas will beat a better TT team in week 3 to re-gain the #2 spot, but the rankings will matter after Texas plays ou in Dallas.

Even if TT is better
Perception is what matters. Beating BYU and Miami will help OU a lot in the minds of voters.

Just win them all
If we win them all during the regular season, I don’t think we have anything to worry about. Oh my god, can this season start already?
