PL Lindley Profile
Stony Point linebacker PL Lindley raised his stock considerably with an excellent summer and looks to ride that momentum to a break-out junior season.

his ifrst name is “PL”? or are those just his first/middle initials?

I don't want to seem as though I'm being overly critical
especially since I’m not just representing myself, but I’m wondering how it’s okay for you to write stuff like this when all of your information is second hand knowledge? Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy reading your recruiting info, but most of it’s coming from these pay sites. Yes, I know that you always post a link, but it doesn’t seem right. Perhaps I just need to learn the rules of how blogs work, and maybe this type of stuff is generally accepted, but I know if I was one of the owners of one of those sites and I’m trying to sell memberships, this would infuriate me.
He's actually linking his own work
he’s covering Stony Point this year for “The Examiner”. He cant plagiarize himself haha.
Yeah I read it. Guess you didn't see the quotes from Inside Texas. Talk to me when he breaks some news.
uh....
don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Go ahead and pay for those sites if you want “breaking news”. Is he taking money from your site or what? He’s not giving access to the entire articles. I think it is comparable to your friend telling you something he heard that was a secret.

You do realize
that when you click on a link for sites that have insider information, you get a preview of what the article is about, and then an opportunity to purchase “insider” information.
How different is GoBr’s article? He gave a preview of what was in the article, then he gave a link if you want to purchase. Like Vy stated…don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
Nice avatar VY by the way. :)
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Confused
So your problem is GoBR didn’t go out and time his 40’s and weigh Lindley himself? Or you don’t like GoBR having an opinion confirmed by an insider article?

I have a problem with him making money
off his writing when all his knowledge is coming from him reading it from another site. If you are making money for a profession you should be the one doing the work.
Out of curiosity
Of the news you see reported on television, in the newspaper, and on the internet, how much do you believe is the result of original research by the reporting entity?

No clue
It speaks volumes that you guys are sticking up for his work and he has nothing to say on the matter.
Seriously?
It speaks volumes that you don’t know the difference between covering news and “breaking news.”
--PB--
So if you were charging a fee for your information on YOUR site
you wouldn’t be upset that one of your paying members is giving all of your news to non paying members, all the while you are trying to build your business? Please…
he doesnt give all of the news!
He gives HIS take on the subject. Its not like he’s giving us his username and password to Orangebloods.com. Yes, that would be wrong.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Get real
He cited a quote from a published news story on the web. If IT has a problem with it, they’re free to revoke his account. Beyond that, there’s no issue. Except with your own conception of how news reporting actually works.
--PB--
You act like this is the only article that he has ever written
where he has used inside information. His Morning Coffee or Afternoon Brewsky column always come after he read from one of the 3 pay sites, and I never had a problem with it when he’s doing it for free. But now he wants to work for the Examiner and wants to get paid for it?
You've undermined your own argument
So the problem is that he’s ‘robbing’ IT or that he’s earning five bucks an article for his work? Make a choice. You can’t have a problem with it one way, but not the other. Either he’s screwing IT or he’s not. It’s irrelevant whether he’s making any money from the gig (and he’s not).
You might consider the possibility that what he does is good for the subscription services. We drive a ton of traffic their way, and yes, some of those readers wind up purchasing subscriptions. Why? Because there’s plenty of good info there, much of which we do not report here — such as information posted in their subscribers only messageboards (e.g. The War Room).
There’s a reason we have a good relationship with all the subscription services.
3QED12:9
--PB--
Just know
That when someone posts something from subscriber-only sections of the website, as opposed to stuff published out as a news story, we delete it. And for good reason.
We’ll take criticism when it’s warranted, but you’re off base here. Big Roy’s well within the bounds of fair practice & use here. So I’ll stick up for him.
--PB--
You said Big Roy's well within the bounds of fair practice & use here.
but as you’ll notice from what I said earlier my problem isn’t with what he puts here, its when he trys to sell it on another site.
He's jealous that Big Roy is seeing the examiner on the side

GBR ROCKS
I love reading his posts. I think he breaks more news and writes more succint and informative articles on my beloved Longhorns than any other journalist. (Sorry PB). But, I did start on this site while you were gone and I think GBR is right on. I love PB’s sense of humor which is not to be matched by anyone. PB is damn funny. But GBR is the inside story/fact man!!
GBR is clearly a journalistic talent and is going to be a mainstream succes.
JC, you raised an ok question, but you you are simply wrong in suggesting—well—what are you suggesting?
GBR is 100% above board. He does link his sources, (pay or free), and that just shows how kick ass he is.
I’m simply a Longhorn fan/addict who has been told by family and friends to leave them alone. I thank God for this site, GBR and PB.
Please tell me what news he has ever broken?
Why is this so hard for y’all to see? Is everybody here brainwashed and afraid of getting kicked off the board to not speak up when someone is stealing another person’s work and then trying to pass it off as his own?
Okay, I’ll tell you what, I ‘m going to pull out my college football preview from SI from a couple weeks ago and post it on here and see if anybody notices. I mean nobody really cares huh? Ooh and then maybe PB will give me a job and I can post SI’s weekly Inside College Football.
Hold on one sec, ok got it. This week we’re talking about Michigan State’s blazing LB. Tune in next week to see what breaking news SI’s got, I mean I’ve got.
I would really be careful
At first I was going to let this whole shenanigan go, but you continued to persist. You kept questioning GoBR’s ethics as a writer and a journalism which is completely uncalled for. You’re not even on the same frequency as PB’s arguements above.
Tread lightly bud.
Are you gonna start bitching about dimecoverage’s daily round-ups? She gets info from ALL over college football and links it in blog form. Her work is a life saver for us and we are VERY grateful for the work she, GoBR and PB and all the rest give us to keep this site the number 1 college sports blog on the internet.
You need to chill out as this is NOT your business and I think it would be in your best interest to just let it go. Nothing good can come of your continued prying into this matter. Drop it!
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Let me say this one final time.
I have a problem with him making money off it, which is what he is trying to do at the Examiner. It’s not right, it’s wrong. Simple as that. The truth is the truth.
It better be your final time.
Thats fine.
Your entitled to your opinion, however; there is no need to go online and throw a morality tantrum about it. Take a deep breath and let it go. If you really really want to tell the world about it on this blog, go ahead, but you will gain NO support nor sympathy for it. While I STRONGLY disagree with you, I will let it go for this blogs sake. But it needs to END NOW! This has gone on long enough and you are losing this battle on BON. Like I said earlier in this post…nothing good will come of your continuing tirade.
I know you’ve only been here not that long, but we dont like to bash our editors. Its just not something we do. Trust me, I do not agree with every asessment they make, but I let it go or simply email them to get the full story BEFORE I pass judgement. Do you know for a FACT that he gets paid for every article he writes?
Thanks and have a nice day.

Just going on what he said
in his Afternoon Brewsky column from Aug. 28, “the more hits I get, the more money I can make.”

who are you to tell anyone to ‘tread lightly’?
I looked at the list at the bottom of the page, and you are not an editor or a writer on this site.

Though suppose I appreciate the invitation. However, I would suggest in the future both in your proselytization and private life you attempt to understand why, exactly, someone disagrees with you.
Occasionally, they may have a grasp of a few things you do not. In this case, a smattering of copyright law, fair use doctrine, and publishing standards.
I suggest you educate yourself on this subject rather than approach it from a purely emotional point of view. You are not the only person on this blog, or the internet, with a moral compass. Presenting yourself as such does you, and the faith, no credit.

Quick question for you 2Cor12:9
You see all those ads at the top of the page? They make money for site owners. GoBR’s posts have always been monetized. It did not start with his writing for the Examiner. I don’t know if he personally has been making money off of his posts, but BON damn sure has. So your problem with GoBR did not start when he started writing for the Examiner. That’s just when you realized (kinda) how the internet works.
Also, if you object to the “morality” of it, then you should boycott his posts. Just don’t read them. I’m sure that there is tons of porn on the internet that you disagree with and think is morally reprehensible. Do you go to those sites and post about how morally wrong they are?
That's a fair assessment.
And perhaps’s I should boycott his posts, because it has bothered me for a while when he posts stuff on BON that is straight from another site, I guess I never really thought about him making money for this site.
As for going on to porn sites, that is something that I shouldn’t even get myself involved in, because the imagination is a dangerous thing and those kinds of pictures can create a stronghold in your mind. Every man on this site can testify to temptation stalking us everyday.
However, if anyone does want to read my views on Christianity, take a look at this discussion over at And The Valley Shook:

Hey.
So just FYI, everyone’s got their own personal opinions about various matters that don’t relate to college football, like politics and religion. Obviously, those opinions and that faith, if any, will influence one’s way of thinking about many things. But let’s leave them implicit, okay? This isn’t going to turn into a debate about such things and it sure isn’t going to turn into an avenue for proselytization of any kind. Thanks.

So we are calling him once a week and inviting him to come watch a game or two already, right?
Has he ever said anything about where he’d prefer to go (hopefully UT)?
I think he definitely likes UT
and has talked about staying in the area. Muschamp did invite him to come to a couple of games this season and I think he will. It’s hard to say what will happen when the interest in Lindley inevitably picks up, but I think Texas has a great shot with him if they decide to offer him a scholarship.
Will he get an offer? I think that’s hard to say at this point but he has such a great frame that Chessher thought he could eventually put on enough weight to become a defensive end. I think his skills in coverage are really valuable as a linebacker, especially in the Big 12 where teams desperately need versatile guys that don’t have to come off the field on third down or get exploited in the passing game on first and second.

He should have a video on Youtube.
Last season’s highlights. As I mentioned, a lot of his reputation is built on his performances this summer and the Skyline game. I’ll see for myself next week when they play Connally how he looks. Dunno about video yet, though. Hopefully later this season. I’ll have much more in depth looks at Wade, Lindley, Williams and some of the other players by the end of the season.

ok, found a video
it is linked off his rivals profile
After watching that video, I can see why he has only been offered by SMU. Reality is, despite what he may have accomplished in camps this Summer, on the field, he doesn’t really stand out. If he truly runs a 4.5 (something I seriously doubt after watching him on film), people will watch to see how he develops in his junior season, but right now, highlight videos like P.L. Lindley’s are a dime a dozen.
Just thought you should know.
For your info he has more than one offer, recruiter expert. It doesn’t matter if he stands out to you, only the college coaches is what matters. Not only does he runs a 4.5 forty he also runs the 200 meters in the low 22’s (as a soph. at 210 pounds). The film is from his soph. season, first year on varsity. He is been recruited by every Big 12 school and several OOS schools. He has established himself as one of the better coverage linebackers of the 2011 class. As a sophomore he was second in tackles on his team, Stony Point High School, who went to the state semifinals. He has a 3.9 GPA going into his Junior season. If you feel he doesn’t stand out to you Coach. You should take that up with Mack Brown and Will Muschamp, because they are the one who are recruiting him at this time.
Why don’t you read the linked article?
After attending summer camps at Texas, Baylor, and SMU, Lindley received an offer from SMU, but has yet to hear much from the other major programs in the region.
Or check his rivals profile, which only has an offer listed from SMU?
If he has more than one offer, it appears it would be news to GoBR and Rivals, so why don’t you go inform these “recruiter expert” types.
Not only does he runs a 4.5 forty he also runs the 200 meters in the low 22’s (as a soph. at 210 pounds).
I don’t care what he runs on the track, I’ve seen plenty of kids who can run a 4.5, and he isn’t one of them. He’s a 4.7, if that.
The film is from his soph. season, first year on varsity.
No, really? I thought it was from his senior season; thanks for informing me.
He has established himself as one of the better coverage linebackers of the 2011 class.
I can’t seem to find the rankings for the “coverage linebackers” in the 2011 class; can you post a link to them?
As a sophomore he was second in tackles on his team, Stony Point High School, who went to the state semifinals.
That doesn’t have a damn thing to do with his potential as a college linebacker; it just means he’s a good high school player. There are plenty of GREAT high school players who still aren’t good enough to play in college.
He has a 3.9 GPA going into his Junior season.
That has nothing to do with how he plays on the field or his highlight film. If I was critiquing his academics, that comment would be germane to the conversation.
If you feel he doesn’t stand out to you Coach. You should take that up with Mack Brown and Will Muschamp, because they are the one who are recruiting him at this time.
pparently, he doesn’t stand out much to them, either, because they are waiting to see how he does his junior season before they offer him.
I stand by my original comment.
You can stand by whatever you want it doesn’t make a difference unless you are giving out scholli’s. They call this sideline chearleading. Your opinion is just that an opinion. UT doesn’t offer scholli’s until Junior day. You must be an aggie fan Now, if you are giving out scholli’s or if I miss that you were a college recruiter. My bad, I stand corrected, not. I stand by my original comment. If you want the real scoop. Talk to Geooff Ketchum, at Rivals Orangebloods. Unless that is a violation of plagiarism. LOL
lemme guess
you’re a high school student?
16-17 yrs old?
And you think Ketchum is a valid source? Wow. Ketchum knows as much about evaluating football recruits as the average high school football fan who watches games on Friday nights. Ask Ketchum whatever happened to his “#1 recruit in the state” Alfio Randle.
This is getting petty
This entire thread is… beyond words.

I have made some age gap related gaffes (Mike Jones——who?) on occasion but this thread has some classics. A quote from the New Testament countering a comment about the fair use doctrine of intellectual property law is without question the funniest thing I have ever read on a recruiting board.

I think if he is writing for a paper then he should use info he received in an interview and not from another site. Just my opinion. On a blog it is fine to make links to info that is not yours (or simply credit the author). I think it is different with an article in a paper.
by miketag on Aug 30, 2009 3:26 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
I just thought it was funny that in the article
he put the ‘$’ after the source, to let everyone know it is a pay site. Not sure papers use the same vernacular we use on blogs :-)
What do you mean
What do you mean by “info that is not yours?” We’re talking about facts here, not personal or real property. I’m not sure how the facts at issue are susceptible of ownership.
You really have no comprehension
of how media works, do you? The tangible difference between a newspaper and a blog being what, exactly?
Mostly
I don’t think he read the article prior to posting his position, which was somewhat needed in order to understand what was going on.

Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Hell, we might have all kinda strange needs this year if this thread is any indication.
Hey, Sneezy, that’s a funny comment.
newspapers have reporters who are confined by the ethics of journalism. They have a much easier time getting interviews and more access to information. Blogs have contributors that are bound by no ethics or code of conduct. Call Belmont and tell them you are a writer for the AAS and want to reserve a media pass fir Saturdays game. Now do the same thing but tell them you are a contributor to this blog. You will find there is a big difference.
by miketag on Aug 30, 2009 3:11 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
That's not necessarily true, miketag.
It is true that this blog keeps its distance from not only Texas but all the college programs. Yes, we can request interviews and press passes and ask questions, but if you get as close as the newspapers do, you can’t help but fall into a symbiotic relationship and there are certain unspoken, off-the-record information that serves as a quid pro quo. That “ease of access” has a real price and a certain element of implied self-censorship.
Then it can become difficult to to call the program(s) on hard shots, to critique and criticize freely and directly and to give really balanced analyzes. I say this as someone has been on both sides of this, as a working journalist covering a team beat and as a blogger.
The ethical standard here is high and it is a forefront consideration, both in the writing and the legal consideration. Plus, if you work in this environment, just like newspaper writers, your every word is open to scrutiny. You, as a commentor, might rave and bitch about Mack Brown or another coach, but the chances of you having to face that coach directly in a professional setting is nil, but it is something the actual writers must understand can happen at any time. I’ve had coaches go Gundyesque on me…and you have to answer, you have to stand up for yourself, especially when the coaches are just flat wrong and covering their ass. And if they’re right, you have to face that in a responsible fashion if you want to continue in the trade. You write enough words and you will screw up sometimes… one of the prices you pay, but all jobs have that.
So, do all blog writers have such considerations? Probably not. But we do here at BON, at least as the ideal. We understand implicitly and explicitly there is a standard and adhere to it. And if you’ll notice, PB leads on this extremely well. He understands the distance we want to keep with respect to the Texas program, and he wants the freedom – for himself and all of us – to speak and write from that perspective. Quite frankly, the blog readers are much better informed as a result of this.
We’re not necessarily perfect in this regard, but we do work in this particular ethical mode as a matter of our intent in providing our readers with in-depth contextual information about Texas football and, indeed, all college football. If we can’t hook ’em as we see fit, why in the hell are we doing this.
Hook ’em, baby
