Tim Griffin: '05/'09 Similarities "Eerie"
One of the most prevalent themes in this year's narrative regards all the similarities between the 2005 team that won the MNC and this year's team. Well, ESPN's Tim Griffin spent the time to go through and find just about every similarity that exists. I challenge you to find any more.
Comments
in 2005, the starting QB, Vince Young, had a best friend, Selvin Young, who played a large role in the offense.
In 2009, the starting QB, Colt McCoy, will have a best friend, Jordan Shipley, who is expected to have a large role in the offense.
Receivers
In 2005, Texas witnessed a breakout year by a young WR from Brenham, Texas named Limas Sweed
In 2009, Texas anticipates a breakout year by a young WR from Brenham, Texas named Brandon Collins
Could we not mention any of the simularities that arise because the 2009 season is four years after the 2005 series.
ie. the championship is in the rose bowl
Texas wore Orange jerseys in the RRS
Texas has the exact same Big12 Conference schedule

Angry Warriors
In the year 2005, Texas sought production from upstart freshman DE Brian Orakpo
In the year 2009, Texas shall seek production from upstart freshman DE Alex Okafor
Both are (family wise, at least) from Nigeria.
Both have two O’s in their last names.
Coincidence? No.
I was 5’10’’ in 2005
I am 5’10’’ in 2009

I already had pointed out the one thing he forgot...
in an older post, but the Longhorns play the exact same conference teams as they did the previous season. While the 2005 to 2009 conference opponents connection is a good one, the reality that Texas will be playing the same teams, albeit with some differences in personnel, from the previous 1-loss season brings a certain level of comfort to me. That’s important because there shouldn’t be any wrinkles they haven’t seen nor haven’t already exploited. I am excited guys!
Texas always has the same conference opponents from 4 years before
Its the way the Big 12 schedule rotates
In 2005, Texas’ second game of the season was a road game to an opponent where it had never played before — Ohio State.
In 2009, while quite not as challenging, Texas’ second game of the season will be a road trip where it has never played before — Wyoming.

Not to rain on your Texas parade but...
05 Texas WON the CWS
09 Texas got there but were edged by the Tigers in three games
Not sure what that means in this “eerie” similarities post
Baseball Parallels
In 2005 Texas Baseball played in the Finals of the College World Series
-Against an SEC team
-In Omaha!! (haha)
In 2009 Texas Baseball played in the Finals of the College World Series
-Against an SEC team
-In Omaha!!!
Hook Em!
Defensive player of the year
The 2004 team had the player of the year in Derrick Johnson, but had a better defense in 2005.
The 2008 team had the player of the year in Brian Orakpo, but the year 2 Muschamp defense should be even better.
Big difference in 2005 OU and 2009 OU
In the year 2005, OU Sucked.
In the year 2009, OU sucks
In 2005, OU had a new QB in Bomar and had just lost one of the best offensive lines in CFB. The Texas defensive line manhandled the OU line as pictures of the vicious hits the Texas D put on him are posted everywhere. I was at game and that was some of the hardest QB hits I can recall in a game.
In 2009, OU has the Heisman QB coming back and have arguable the best tight end in CFB back and maybe the best 2 running backs as a team in Brown and Murray. No comparison to 2005.
Luckily, we're making a comparison about UT 2005 and UT 2009...
…and not a comparison between OU 2005 and OU 2009.
Nah
I’d say that the comparison is strong enough for this exercise:
2005 OU:
Depleted O-Line
QB that got drafted
AP
Some TE
Vicious QB Hits
Fat Men Running
2009 OU:
Depleted O-Line
Mr Heisman
Some running backs
All World TE
Vicious QB Hits
Fat Men Running
What’s the problem.
...
it’s kind of hard to see your response when you don’t actually press reply and then respond to the actual comment. Also, it’s a joke.
