"Franklin Spurns Lifelong Favorite" ($)
So says Sooner Scoop's Josh McCuistion: the Marshall linebacker will head to OU, "spurning" Texas. More bad recruiting news, so what else is new? Franklin will no doubt enjoy getting run all over the field by Darius Terrell from the flex tight end position. You're getting no help from your coach, buddy. Have fun. Breaking down to the pure choice between Venables, Chizik-like in his inability to adjust or Coach Boom, why not Muschamp? Yes, I'm a little bitter.
More on this later in the weekend and best of luck to Franklin at OU -- he handled the process with maturity, but it can't feel anything but a little bit traitorous when a Texas kid heads north of the Red River when he could have been a Longhorn.

this sucks, but have to take it in stride, saw on OB’s that the Marshall RB is already committed to ou. I won’t wish them luck myself – bitter maybe, I knew a kid who played LB at ou years ago, I never wished him luck.

whoops
I oughta be drunk w fubarred crap like that … please disregard my post, at least re the RB part. ou will always be excrement to me.

The worst of it is
I might have to re-open the talk of an offer for Favors, which I was hoping we’d moved past…

this might sting a little, but could it help our overall chances with hicks at all???

I doubt Hicks is worried about anyone else
because he’s rated so highly.

What are our chances with Hicks?
Espn has us as #1, but Rivals has us slipping. I know Texas started out #1 for D. White and Hicks, but seem to be slipping…what’s going on? I don’t trust anything by ESPN.

No way to know really
until he makes it down to campus for an official visit, assuming he does. I think that’s likely, then if the Longhorns reaffirm his favorable impression from his camp visit then they have a chance.

Texas is bleedin’ linebackers. It’s probably not critical to get another commitment at the position, but it sure looks like the numbers would be much more comfy if Hicks would climb on board. If he doesn’t, I really do think the Favors thing has to come to past, but one has to wonder whether he’d commit even if he were offered.
Of course, are there even any other linebackers Texas has liked, but has not offered?
by burntorangehorn on Aug 7, 2009 10:14 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
There's a kid from Dayton
Chris Young, who plays outside linebacker but could end up as a defensive end once his frame fills out. I think he’s more likely for an offer than Favors. Supposedly with Favors there was some incident at the Spring Game regarding a nametag but it’s all very vague as far as I can tell. That incident apparently explains why White has seemingly moved away from his statements about liking Texas so much.

Yeah, I posted something about Ketchum’s take on that incident a day or two ago. If anyone’s interested in hearing it, it’s available here. The part about White/Favors is at the 11:30 mark, but he also talks about:
*whether or not Gilbert is likely to redshirt, and what his role might be if he plays
*the RB situation (predicting “Colt and Cody” show, IIRC), and Whaley’s chances to contribute
*he says Okafor could easily be the most talented guy in the program, possibly starting at some point this season, but Acho ought to start and “has double-digit sack potential”

Umm…okay, looks like copying the radio archive links doesn’t work. If people are interested, go to the Rivals Radio website, look under the interviews, go to “More Archived Interviews” toward the bottom right, and find Sergio for 9/5/2009 (yes, I realize they have the month wrong) and Ketchum on 7/31/2009.

Favors
So, White is mad because of a name tag? Is this for real? I also read that J. Shipley didn’t give his friends enough attention. If these are reasons why he doesn’t like Texas then screw it.

You wouldn’t get a bad taste in your mouth if the coaches, staff, and players ignored the people who are with you?

J. Shipley
is a players, he’s not there to recruit. The coaches probably told him to go talk to D. White and he did.

it’s awkward, and can be disrespectful, in any social situation to not acknowledge the full group during introduction and goodbyes….

Why is a player at the camp, if not to help recruit? I never went to a college camp, so I honestly don’t know, but I’m assuming they aren’t supposed to be there to help train the players.

If the incident happened . . .
as described in the Ketchum interview someone involved in planning the minor details for invited recruits was asleep at the switch. Embarrassing for Favors and piss poor PR if you are trying to get the commitment of his friend, the most tauted WR recruit to come along in 3-4 years.
by Arroyo Grande on Aug 8, 2009 4:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
You are welcome to come on in, but please tell your friends to stand outside the door
It sound like it was a total screw up on our part. We pride ourselves on being the ultimate Texas Football Family…so the last thing you would think that Texas recruiters would do is make a recruit, his family, or his friends feel uncomfortable or unwelcomed. I would be pissed off if you did that to me or my friends.
Shipley didn’t make a huge gaff – he was kind of at the end of the aisle and had to rush on down to the field and they were a few seats away….but it supports that view that Texas was acting like D. White was invited and they other two were party crashers. If we had already screwed up the nametag, you would think he would have been careful to make sure to not ignore them again.
We shouldn’t be surprised that this turned off D. Whtie and his parents (who brought the 3 players to the game together). Other schools rolled out the red carpet to the three of them, and we offend two of them. Come on—that’s not right and not Texas’ style. We can and should do better and show D. White that we really do want him on campus, even if we can’t extend offers to his friends. I hope that we have apologized up and down as we should. I think Sanders may actually be the real diamond in the rough and Favors and he deserved better from us.

bleeding LB's?
I wouldn’t say that. Texas will lose Kindle, Muck, and Norton after this year. I know there is talent, but what about depth? The chances of a LB getting hurt are very high. Franklin is more of a work in progress type recruit, but Muschamp saw something in him.
by Longhorns84 on Aug 7, 2009 11:00 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Talking about prospects. UT lost out on some 2009 guys who could’ve been very good for shoring up the corps in the wake of the upcoming departures, as well as some 2010 guys who would’ve been very nice to have. I do hope Muschamp is right on Nkwopara in particular.

Maybe I put too much stock in the rankings but
this one doesn’t bother me. They are going to come down to Texas and poach these kids. This is the kid I don’t mind Oklahoma getting.
I like our class right now. If we add Hicks, Lache, Jeffcoat, or White toward the end, it would be great, but I like it right now.

Muschamp liked him for a reason
The only reason he isn’t ranked very high is because he was hurt last year.

I like the class too
I would like to see Texas get Jeffcoat, White, or Hick (atleast 1).

Franklin's Ranking
People probably weren’t bothered when Oklahoma poached Travis Lewis either. Regardless of how good this class is, the staff wanted Franklin to be part of it.
by Arroyo Grande on Aug 9, 2009 4:13 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m really glad about the current state of the class, but I have to say that I’m a bit disappointed in how things are looking. I think Darius White would be an amazing guy to get, but right up there on my wish list is Jeffcoat. It’s no coincidence that these two guys have been stand-up guys in the recruiting process, unlike some others…

Yeah,
No whining if we don’t get White, Jeffcoat, or Hicks. I want them, but I think it has been a fair evaluation proces for each of them.

So is it still your contention that WM is a superior recruiter?
by burntorangehorn on Aug 9, 2009 5:51 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Huh?
I am not sure what you are getting at here. You forgot Jeffcoat, though I am not sure what your list is supposed to be showing. Three of four have already committed. Three of the four are LBs. Three of the four are from Texas. I am just not getting your point.
I think this is a much more impressive list:
Muschamp Gets
Aaron Benson LB 6-2 205 4.5 Cedar Hill, TX
Taylor Bible DT 6-3 280 4.9 Denton, TX
Carrington Byndom DB 6-0 165 4.45 Lufkin, TX
DeAires Cotton DT 6-4 275 5 Alief, TX
Greg Daniels DE 6-4 242 4.65 Houston, TX
Ashton Dorsey DT 6-2 276 4.85 Tyler, TX
Bryant Jackson DB 6-3 175 4.48 Sulphur Springs, TX
Tevin Jackson LB 6-2 220 4.49 Garland, TX
Adrian White DB 5-10 171 4.41 DeSoto, TX
Reggie Wilson DE 6-4 240 4.8 Haltom City, TX
We got the two best LBs in state and have a chance to get another nation prospect in Hicks. If we get Jeffcoat we will have the two best DEs in state. We have the two best DTs in state. We got three of the top 4 or 5 DBs in state.

Read real slow.....
There is a difference between his coaching and his recruiting. His 2 year history at Texas shows a lot of misses on his target recruits. If facts are bad for your allergies, then don’t read.

Why all the bashing
MB and WM have assembled an amazing class. Sure, there are kids that we will miss, but if you compare how many kids we didn’t get to how many kids other teams didn’t get I’m sure our list is much shorter. We target fewer prospects because we get commits from a much higher percent of the guys we offer.
How many offers did we make? 35-40 offers? We have 19 commits and we will possibly have 21 or 22 at the end. We get about 50% of the kids we offer. On the other hand, I couldn’t even keep track of the pages and pages of offers sent out by OU. They definitely offered at least 70 kids and probably more like 80. So they get about 25% of their offers. How anyone can be knocking the Texas recruiting process is beyond me. I want the 5 star guys too, but you can’t win every battle. We are so spoiled it is sick.

There is a big difference....
between national recruiting and recruiting in one single state. USC, Notre Dame, OU, Washington, Minnesota, Florida, Miami and Florida State will all tend to issue significantly higher number of offers. It doesn’t make one recruiting design superior to another.
