KD aka Velvet Hoop
KD, AI, Rashod Lewis & one of my favorites, DJ Quik. I've read some criticism about the spot regarding the theme of the commercial. Some think it stereotypes the black athlete,i.e the gold chains, spinning rims and the rap. I don't see that at all. To me, it purposely looks like an 80's throwback video and it's tastefully done. Now if it had half naked women then it would be offensive. Ironically enough the chorus line of the video is "While you be criticizing, we just be hyperizing..."

Honestly
I don’t know what to think of this. Funny? Satirical? Cool? Well performed? Good rap? I don’t think it is really ANY of these things.

I think its great
Oh come on its satirical and the humor is “self aware” so to speak, these guys are not taking this seriously! Mo Williams with the ridiculous hair, the silly glasses and the brick cell phone, Lewis with his old ass tucked-in jeans.
Durant really showed some marketability here and, if I may say, stole the show. He’s so softspoken Im glad he did this. He sounded pretty comfortable rapping. Sorry if y’all dont like rap but just appreciate it for its face value before you write it off. Thought it was hilarious personally.
+1

Funny stuff. I know people will always throw out the “perpetuating the black stereotype” card, but I for one do not see Durant as one of them.
Back when Durant was here, I was taking the UT Bus home. I had my iPod in and my microbio book open to study (test the next day). Sitting in the back, I was fairly oblivious to anything going on or the people inside the bus. But I noticed we stopped outside the FEC and four guys got off. They all looked the same, walking down the sidewalk: black basketball shorts, white t-shirts and a black baseball cap (askew, of course). They walked with a swagger and I had to laugh a little. Then I noticed the first guy’s face. Holy crap, that’s DJ Augustin! And Justin Mason! AJ Abrams! Damion James! Wow! Starstruck as I was, I noticed they all walked like the stereotypical “I’m a badass” black athlete. Then a fifth guy got off the bus, dressed the same. It was Durant. However, he didn’t try to emulate anything the others did. No, he had this huge goofy grin on his face, like a kid getting ready to open Christmas presents. And he was a kid, and he was just enjoying himself out in the sunshine.
It’s good to see some athletes don’t take themselves so seriously. I think he’s doing a pretty good job at being a great role model for everyone else. Keep it up, KD!
Every time I feel down and depressed, I think of seven simple words by a true wise man, Matt Leinart: "I still think we're the better team" and I usually end up hurting myself by laughing so hard.
