Rashod Favors Commits to OU
For those following recruiting, I think we're counting this as bad news in the Darius White sweepstakes.

I'm not counting this as bad news
I think the fact that Darius White didn’t commit with him is good news. Also, Favors’ defense just gave up 50 something points; I think he was jumping on that OU ship before it sailed away.

Are you going to pull Darius White's offer
because his offense only scored 13 points in their first game??

Nice try, but no--you can't have him WW
He is still a top prospect for us. Dunbar doesn’t have a strong line or QB so there isn’t much he can do about that. When he starts hooking up with Gilbert he will shine.
I wonder if recruits in today’s environment are not better off committing before the season so that they can focus more on their senior season without the constant nag of recruiting getting in the way.
I read that Jordan Hicks will give weekly media updates. He had a great game, but what a distraction.

hmm...

I forgot which coach said something along the lines of “having a kid commit early just means I know who I have to beat.” Orgeron, maybe?
There are instances where kids like Garrett Gilbert commit with full intention of going to that university and not bothering to listen to anyone else, but I imagine he was still getting plenty of phone calls and text messages from other coaches and universities. He just chose not to listen to them is all.

It's good news for GOBR....
He doesn’t have to address the recruitment or lack thereof of Favors anymore, haha

Ha.
A couple weeks ago I might have spun it like that, but it looked over the last couple weeks that the Longhorns were starting to recruit Favors again. Too little too late I guess.

I think it becomes bad news if his other friend chooses OU also...
I am blanking on the name of his other D1 quality friend, but I think if he also commits to OU that will make it difficult if not impossible for us to get White. Even if White had already committed to us, I would have put him on the decommit watch list if his two friends choose the same major program. I was surprised Favors had waited this long and started to wonder if he wasn’t really being recruited that hard by the big boys.

Dominique Sanders.
His Rivals page ($) does not list an offer from Oklahoma, so that is probably good news because if Favors and Sanders decide to go to OU that probably makes it extremely difficult to get White to go anywhere else.

I was worried that the trio might go to OSU or Tech together.
Since Sanders doesn’t have an offer from OU I think this is not bad news that Favors committed to OU and White kept quiet. I can’t think of any good reason why White wouldn’t have committed to OU along with Favors if that is his intention? After all, they visited OU together and have been pretty public that it would be cool to all play together, if possible.
GBR, why do you say Texas started to recruit Favors? Do you think we were starting to feel that he was the key to White or do you think that with Nelson and Franklin gone he was next on the list?
My take is that Sanders is the better friend with White,. Obviously they play offense together, but also they seemed to be hanging out together more at the spring game. I’m still hoping that we can get White to play in Austin.

White has the most to lose........
waiting to commit for D White seems like a huge risk, unless he’s already got a secret lock.
He didn’t fare too well in the 7 on 7 in Florida and he’s not getting the opps so far this year. It seems like his stock had been slipping. Friday night lowlights can shine pretty bright in the end. He may want to consider making his move early on & leave the drama to Seastrunk.

Favors
I think the Texas coaches are worried about getting a third linebacker in this class — which doesn’t necessarily say anything about how they feel about their chances with Jordan Hicks — and like the fact that he will play at his collegiate position of linebacker this fall. Don’t know if something changed with their evaluation of him besides that — on their list of targets he may just have been directly after Franklin.
I believe that the connection between Favors and White goes back to their childhood, which was probably a large part of the reason why White felt so stung by his friend’s treatment at the spring game.

Nelson and Franklin
I hope that we haven’t given up on either Nelson or Franklin, but we typically don’t get many recruits to de-commit and come over to us. Besides Hicks, is anyone else on the radar?

Chris Young, possibly.
But no one else really.

The sooner (not to the Sooners) Sanders commits the better...
Hopefully Sanders commits somewhere other than OU, hopefully soon since that would likely mean not OU. I like our chances a bit more if Favors and Sanders have already split up the trio. I would have to think White would feel freer to explore his options rather than jumping into a chance to play with his friends again. Of course if their HS team continues to stink it up they may all just get sick of each other and not want to play together!

D. White
You did your job in helping get one of your boys to go to OU. Now come to Texas!

Interesting how the ESPN recruiting info (from Scouts, Inc.) says WR Ty Montgomery, who just committed to Stanford, had an early offer from Texas. I’m pretty sure that would come as a surprise to the Texas coaches.

Does anyone know how many commits Big XII teams are allowed to sign?
I know they can only take 25 per class, but there are always the guys that won’t qualify. I know the SEC finally set a limit at 28 after having ridiculous commits of 30 plus. I just wonder where OU stands—the remaining targets are going to start to be squeezed.

OU is going to take 27-28 this year due to attrition and small classes

But the 25 limit remains, no?
I’m no expert, but perhaps juco transfers don’t count against the 25 limit?

Yeah but if a kid starts school in January he doesn't count against that class
I believe he counts towards the previous class. Also a kid could get grey-shirted as well, meaning he wouldn’t be on scholarship the first year. I was told that Texas had asked Emory Blake to do that for this past year. Sure hope that cold shoulder towards him, doesn’t hurt UT with his stud cousin.
by 2Cor12:9 on Sep 1, 2009 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes, a school can only enroll 25 per class; the max. total number on scholarship is 85
Texas has been running close to the 85 so we are a bit tight.
In a given recruiting class there are always kids that don’t academically qualify so they will not count against the 25 enrolled for the year since they won’t be cleard to enroll. Some SEC schools were siging over 30 kids, then sending a handful to JUCOs to see how they pan out. Kind of like gray shirting them, but with even less committment to the kid.

Who is Emory Blake's cousin?
I think Emory Blake is probably lucky he didn’t come to Texas because he would have been pretty low on the depth chart.
by Wrangler86 on Sep 1, 2009 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Correct.
Supposedly the best receiver in his class in the early going. I will try to make an Austin High game this year to watch him.

He may be good but...
I saw a 6 year old kid with great hands and a frame that he could really grow into playing the other day. Unreal upside. He’s who I would be targeting now.
class of 2012?? Don’t get me wrong, I eat this recruiting stuff up but it does get a little ridiculous.
by andmyster on Sep 1, 2009 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well..
6 year old still has 12 years to develop. A lot could change with his upside.
But class of 2012 is only 2 years away.
Where is this 6 year old from anyways? What team and position? jk.

Former Dallas Cowboy linebacker Robert Jones' son
Cayleb Jones. Talk about some genes in that family tree.
I don’t know man, I went to a few Austin High games last year and Emory was far and away the best player on the field. Only wish I would have gone to the game against P-ville and Okafor. They’d play him at reciever, return man and quarterback as well in some Wildcat formations. I’m just glad he decommited to Tech and Texas won’t have to face him.

Blake's Stats--Senior year
Rushing: 74 attempts for 643 yards for a 8.76 yd/attempt avg. 6 TD
Passing: 64 attempts for 936 yards for a 14.6 yd/attempt avg. 9 TD
Very respectable. I never saw him play, but I watched his video clips and those were what left me luke warm. Of course, those were from his junior year and I think he was coming off an injury.
I agree that it is better for us that he is at Auburn and not pulling a Crabtree on us.

Heres the question...
Is the point of having talented players on your team to win games or to live up to your “Choklehoma” title year after year on the big stage? If it is the latter then we applaud you and the rest of HOE-U because you dang sho have that on lock. Now go head and get in bed with your sister like you usually do and sleep tight, loser, while these Longhorns give you nightmares.

Macky-poo's results
Without knowing enough about the details, you may be right that the UT staff “blundered” his recruitment. I hope not.
What I do know is that all of the top 100 rated recruits for 2010 that are holding offers from both UT and OU and have given verbal commitments (i.e. not undecideds like White) have committed to the Horns over OU. I’ll take Macky-poo.

Kyle Prater to USC
Thank goodness he didn’t go to OU. He is the next Julio Jones. Wish we had been in the hunt for him.

Unconfirmed Report
That OU gave Favors an extra cool name tag to where during the announcement ceremony. Sort of like Flo on those irritating Progressive commercials.
