New season for VY

Tonight, NFL starts their new season - Titans vs. Steelers. Although, I don't expect VY will play tonight but I am still very excited about the Titans this season. I have watched a couple VY games in preseason. I'm glad to see him able to dust up his past and come back strong. His performance looks very promising so far. I can't get enough to watch him play. No doubt he is one of our hero in 2005 and thanks for brought back the title to ATX, VY! I wish him the best on his new NFL season...

Lots of Longhorns involved

The first tackle of the NFL season: Michael Griffin
The second catch of the NFL season: Ahmard Hall
Other Horns on tonight’s rosters: Vince Young, Bo Scaife, Casey Hampton, Limas Sweed, and Tony Hills.

Added Bonus: As a starter, Scaife identified his school as “The real UT.” Hall noted: “The one and only University of Texas” (Slight edge goes to Scaife.) Other starters include Griffin and Hampton. Sweed saw action on the first drive.

Haynesworth

Until he left for Washington. Well, I think he was from that school in Knoxville.

Every time I feel down and depressed, I think of seven simple words by a true wise man, Matt Leinart: "I still think we're the better team" and I usually end up hurting myself by laughing so hard.

he left....

actually, has helps the D line tremendously. The front 4 has able to rush the QB quicker than ever, imo. But this is just the 1st game. Who knows what will happen next……

Once again Michael Griffin...

What can I say about this beast? Great play maker for turnover. It reminds me that interception against USC. I hope Muschamp will admonish the D take chance to create turnover.

Feel bad for Scaife. Hope his injury is not that serious. By the way, do you know what year Hampton has played for the Horns? I forgot…

Kerry Collins was not impressive

especially at the end of regulation. He had the game in his hands and let it slip away. It was the perfect situation for VY but the NFL is just so damn conservative.

For your own mental health

Do not spend any time on a Titans message board. The majority of the fanbase has invested so much in Collins over VY that they all but want him to fail. It’s amazingly foul.

You ain't hurt.

I had somebody try to argue that VY is only an above average athlete

I mean, really, even the harshest critics of VY don’t say that. There are things you can legitimately criticize him for; his athleticism isn’t one of them.

Didn’t they shit down the official Titans message board? I don’t know of they brought it back or what the reason for shutting it down were. However, 50% of the topics each week dealt with VY even if he didn’t play. They would analyze his sideline behavior based on the 3 camera shots a game.

by JohnsonUT on Sep 11, 2009 7:22 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Amen to that...

It’s a shame, really. I like how someone mentioned on one of the boards that he had an issue with VY’s play in the last pre-season game against Green Bay – he made a couple of bad throws, they said. Nevermind that his QB rating for the game was 108. Not that I’m a big believer in QB rating, but by any stretch of the imagination, he played well.

Frustating to see so many folks over there sour on him.

It's Tenneessee, Guys, Home of Moonshine Rednecks

What did you expect? Vince Young is the epitome of everything they don’t like down there — a black guy with swagger. Of course they prefer the vanilla white boy.

haha...

Thanks for your friendly reminder, PB. Last time, I checked my metal health still in good shape. I never check in Titans or any other NFL team message board, thank God :)

Collins didn't light it up

But they didn’t lose because of him. A lot of things went wrong for them besides the few mistakes he made.

And therein lies the problem with Jeff Fisher

The Titans are the Ohio State of football, playing to win 7-6 games on a great defense and fewer mistakes on offense. That’s a good way not to get fired. A lousy way to be the best team in the league.

VY desperately needs a different head coach.

You ain't hurt.

Possibly

When VY first got to Tennessee, I thought it was a great fit for him (much better than Houson). However, as Tennessee repeatedly failed to give him weapons and open things up, I wasn’t so sure (ironically, the Titans have more weapons now for Collins). VY is a type of player that makes plays, and sometimes, he will make mistakes. You live with it because the good outweighs the bad. However, in Fisher’s offense, ANY turnover can be killer because the offense can’t really compensate with big plays.

I have a lot of respect for Fisher, but it’s possible VY needs a change of scenery. However, I hope he can get a second chance with Tennessee.

VY was training with Norm Chow in his first couple of seasons...

…then Chow bolted for :UCLA, and his personal development, I posit, stalled because of it.

by TXinDC on Sep 11, 2009 12:55 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Chow was let go

He didn’t seem to fit the NFL well.

by TheElusiveShadow on Sep 11, 2009 12:57 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Let go / left... my point is, he was at least establishing rapport with Vince...

… instead of this ignorant ‘tough love’ stuff that Fisher is pushing. “No no, Vince needs to use the tools we’ve got, we’re not going to try to get new weapons on the field just so our QB can succeed.”

by TXinDC on Sep 11, 2009 1:01 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

you are dead on about Fisher...

basically, he seems to play not to lose.

He’s a terrific defensive coach, but he’s woefully inept on the offensive side, and he hires coordinators who go along with that. Forget the complete mismanagement of VY’s career so far – just look at the way they used Chris Johnson last night. Here’s the fastest guy on their team, not a big guy, and they have him sit in the backfield and block pass rushers – or, more accurately, ineffectually move around and watch pass rushers fly by him. You want to blunt that rush a little? How about throwing the kid a little flare and get him in space a few times?

If we used DJ Monroe that way, we’d be crucifying Greg Davis… and rightfully so.

For the love of

my life, when VY declared the draft, I was really hoping for Texans would draft him and hire Craig Davis as their OC. If they do so, it would make the city of Houston goes trance.

VY Needs another team

Trade him to Denver, Kansas City (out of money?), Tampa Bay, or whoever else needs a QB. We are watching a hall of famer rust on the sidelines.

VY brings so much more to the game than Collins. The most brilliant play Collins made last night was the escape to throw the ball away. The kind of smart play Fisher likes.

I generally like Fisher, but he is laying an egg here. If the Titans don’t want him then trade him.

The Titans Have Always Been Vanilla

…even when they were the Oilers. And Fisher is as vanilla a coach as they come. Seriously, everything about that team is vanilla. I hate to keep bringing up that word, but it just fits.

Warren Moon and Steve McNair

so very vanilla. Not everything is about race, you know.

Right On!
