How does Stoops console himself?!?
Nice to see Stoops pull out his security blanket last night - scoring 60+ points.
I know nothing about the game other than the score, but can't help of thinking that he reached the 60 point plateau just to help console his image / respect for his team.
I know it was Idaho St and the defense & special teams probably had more than their share of opportunities to contribute. (Again I don't know any of the stats or what happened.)
I would hope that at least by the mid-3rd qtr Stoops put in the 80 yr old equipment manager, the honorary 6 yr old ball boy, the 110 pound statistician, the girls on the athletic training staff, and JR (the WWE announcer). Yes, it's the defenses responsibility to stop the offense, but I find it hard to believe Stoops didn't let off the pedal......no wait, yes I can believe it.

Agreed
I had the same thoughts when I saw that score. Stoops’s logic is so predictable: “In two weeks, Texas has outscored its opponents by 70 points, while OU outscored opponents by 63 points, so we’re about even.”
Landry Jones played until the 4th quarter
John Nimmo is now their second string QB, and didn’t attempt to pass the ball. Jermie Calhoun and Jonathan Miller were the RB’s who took most of the snaps in the 4th quarter. Both scored TD, which made a total of 5 for the rushing game. Landry was 18/32 for 286 yds, 3 TDs, and 1 INT. Not the greatest performance for a QB against the worst team to play college football this year.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Nimmo is just a walk-on
Allen is the true backup but they would only pull his shirt if Landry went down

Nice of you to make assumptions.
I saw the game and the defense starting throwing out second and third teamers starting in the second quarter. By the end of the game there was pretty much nothing but true freshman on the field for the defense. They didn’t even register positive yardage until this time. The offensive line (without much depth) played the whole game out of necessity. They rotated everyone in and out giving everyone snaps to give them some game time experience. Still had 2 false starts which is better than last game. The defense scored a touchdown and a safety so they added 9 points to the game. Also the last 2 touchdowns were scored on the ground by Jeremie Calhoun (3rd string running back) and Jonathan Miller ( I think that was his name but he was true freshman running back below Calhoun). Score was 41 to nothing at half (inlcuding defensive touchdown) 1st team offense played the first series in the second half (which was 3 plays for 70?? yards to make it 48 to 0. Defense added the safety for 50 to 0. Then the before mentioned 2 rushing touchdowns listed above.
As for the assumption, this is no different then some of the scores you have had against infereior opponents in the past. “Kettle calling pot black” possibly. This was a Div II team, what do you expect. Our (and yours for that matter) could have won this game by 3 touchdowns.
Dude
He wasn’t making assumptions. He was hoping that Bob Stoops called off the calvary somewhere mid 3rd quarter. He did. End of story. No need to take things further by YOU making assumptions
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Yes....
I was simply saying for OU’s sake (not that I really give a crap) hopefully Poops learned his lesson with Bradford going down. I find it quite comical that Bradford played 99% of the snaps last year and OU had NOBODY prepared to take the reins. All those supposed “great recruiting” classes and all you got is Landry?!?! Maybe if Poops wasn’t so hell-bent on getting 60 pts every game last year and getting Bradford the Heisman, someone could have earned some much needed reps last year. Now OU gets to reap the benefits of those great decisions.
So while I didn’t know exactly what happened in the game, I thought it was ironic that OU once again achieved the 60 pt plateau to console some bruised egos on the OU bench.
I don’t care if it’s OU, Texas (scoring 70 against CU), or DeVry Institute of Technology, if you’re laying the smack, you better empty the bench – for respect issues (cause one day the table will turn and you will be on the other end of that butt whoopin’) and to get the other players some meaningful reps. Not to mention the possibility of injuries. Then, yes, it becomes the defenses responsibility to stop your offense.
What's wrong with Landry Jones.
All those supposed "great recruiting" classes and all you got is Landry?!?
He was a highly recruited Qb when he came on board. Reshirted and now is getting some opportunity to get on the field.
http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=4&pid=10&yr=2008
He will be fine when it’s his time to start. Right now he just needs to be effective when it’s needed.
that's my whole point
instead of redshirting, Poops would have been smart (impossible by OU standards, but nonetheless) Landry should have gotten some snaps last year. But no, Poops was hell-bent on racking up 60 pts.
Like I said, no matter what team you are, you better have your back-ups ready to play. Landry might be fine over time, but he’s clearly lost esp. with a young O-line. Every opponent of OU is licking their chops waiting to rush through that porous O-line and tag Landry. Or even knock Bradford out for good. They may say they aren’t intentionally trying to injure another player, but everyone knows they want to punish a QB as much as possible.
I meant.
This was a Div II team, what do you expect? Our 3rd string(and yours for that matter) could have won this game by 3 touchdowns.
Actually with FBS and the FCS
they are a Division I team just in the Championship Series not Bowl and they play in one one of the hardest conferences in that league. I’m not say that they are the best last year, they were near the bottom but the team that won that conference played for the National Championship.
Either way
You get my drift. With the caliber of team it could have been worse. The 3rd string on Texas or OU could have won this game.
Jones playing in the 4th quarter
Again, I think this is a necessity. He’s a redshirt freshman, he needs the snaps.
again
why was he not getting snaps last year?? stop being so thick-headed and pointing to your wonderful NCAA record of 60 pts a game.
I don’t know. Why wasn’t Colt getting snaps behind Vince in 2005?

imo...
..it’s b/c Mack didn’t expect VY to leave. If you look back at the track record of people leaving early, only Kwame Cavil had done it under Mack’s watch. Now, JC, and Jermichael left, but it still isn’t that bad compared to other schools.

Uhhhh.... What?
Please show where I’m being so thich headed?? Please show any post where I point to OU’s wonderful NCAA record of 60 pts a game?? I couldn’t care less how many points we score as long as we win the most games we can. This was something you brought up. It’s funny you mention Landy not getting snaps last year and redshirting but I happen to know another B12 quarterback who redshirted and didn’t develop during the 2005 season. What was his name again, oh yeah, Colt McCoy. Personally I’m not going to second guess a coach who has 6 big 12 titles with 5 different quarterbacks. I’m sure he knows what he’s doing.
Wasn't the 2005 Big 12 Conference Championship
70-3 or something like that. How does Mack console himself????
It was 70-3
with 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.
Mack called me in to play QB by that point. Thats how.
It was also the worst Division II team in college football. I was expecting 100 points. OU is always disappointing us.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Speaking from the perspective of someone who was at the game
Landry Jones needed the snaps and the offensive line desperately needed the snaps if they have any hope of beating Tulsa this upcoming Saturday.
And in response to the poster who said that Bradford playing “99%” of the snaps last season and in effect leaving OU unprepared in case of an injury; Landry Jones actually redshirted last year and the backup, Joey Halzle, graduated. That’s probably why Jones didn’t see action last year.
exactly..
OU got lucky that Bradford came back or else you would’ve been even more unprepared than they are now. There is no reason, other than to run up the score and get pretty stats, to keep Bradford in the 4th quarter throwing the football when the game is out of reach.

I think you missed the point bro...
Jones had no game experience last year, regardless of whether Stoops was keeping Bradford in to run up the score for Heisman and media votes, because he redshirted last season and couldn’t play.

so take the redshirt off
don’t be hell-bent on “putting your eggs in one basket” – develop your players. Like I said, one day the tables will turn and you will be on the other end of the woodshed beating.
Even with Halzle last year, Poops was betting on Bradford coming back. If he left, you would be in more of a pickle. Landry should have gotten snaps last year. Period. Especially now with an inexperienced O-line. Opposing teams cannot wait to attack that porous O-line. G U A R A N T E E D !!!
