Tre Newton moving up the depth chart
Newton is listed as a co-starter along with McGee and Johnson. Not exacly a huge move to the front of the rotation, but at least playing him starter snaps now appears to be in the coaches minds. Glad to see he is getting rewarded for having a good game running the ball in addition to all of the other things he brings to the table.
Few other things that caught my eye:
-Curtis Brown is low listed as a starter ahead of Chykie Brown (and their is no co-starter, "or" designation). I like this move and think Curtis has outplayed Chykie so far this year.
-Huey is apparently healthy enough to be listed as a co-starter at RG with Snow. Surprised he is back so soon after being carted off in week 1.
-Luke Poehlman is the backup LT. In reality I think Hix moves over to LT if anything were to happen to Ulatoski, but I don't remember seeing Luke at this spot last week. Speaking of backup OT's, anyone noticed either Mitchell or Poehlman in the first 2 games and can make any comments on how they are playing?
-Tevin Mims is a co-backup to S. Acho at DE, along with Eddie Jones. Rusell Carter isn't listed at all.
-Jared Norton and Mason Walters are absent from the depth chart. As are Collins, Scott and Beasely.
-Vaccor is a co-backup to Gideon at safety, along with Ben Wells.
-Shipley is still the punt returner.
-Looks like M. Williams and DJ Monroe have locked down the starting KO return duties, and that M. Goodwin is also in the mix. This may be the most explosive KO return talent we've used as far back as I can remember.

Poehlman cut his mullet.
That’s all I’ve noticed from him so far.

I saw that and it made me sad
So I poured one out for my dead homey.

Not exactly moving up the "OR" chart
Its just that we now have 5 starting tailbacks. Explain that to me.

Given that we want 3, and 2 are injured at any given time...
That gives us 5! We’re in good shape.

I think Mack's
OR is for the player: “Hey, they think of me as a starter.” It’s not for opposing coaches or the media
Yes, I’ve seen Mitchell play at both tackles, and I suspect he (or Tray Allen) would step in at LT ahead of Poehlman . . . Vaccaro’s presence, and that of Tevin Mims, surprises me, especially since there are just 3 CBs at this point and Davis and Barnett (true freshmen like Vaccaro) have played at the end of both games.
Distinct surprise on Curtis Brown. And Chykie, who I had pegged as the team’s No. 1 CB all through the offseason.

good to know on the "or"
I thought Davis was introducing a 5 tailback package because nothing else has worked to fix the ground game

Good for Trey
I hope everyone noticed in film how this kid never took a down off. He played hard on every down and knew exactly where he was at all times. He made some key blocks picking up blitzes and then downfield blocks to help his team score.
He has a very quick burst and I think we will see more of number 23 week to week. Just wait until we see what he can do at sea level. D)

Thin at Linebacker
Anybody else notice how thin we are at linebacker without Norton? Are we going to have to pull some true freshman out of redshirt season if someone else gets injured besides Muck?

Just watched the game again
and Newton looked really good. I must have missed it last Saturday, but the kid was everywhere. I think we got ourselves a new feature back!
In-VINCE-able.

Newton better than people think
Someone commented on an earlier thread that Newton is not an elite athlete. He may not have 4.3 speed, but he makes up for it in decisiveness, technique and a deceptive long stride that can lead defenders to take bad angles (ala VY). I think he is a much better spread running back than McGee, but we’ll need to see how he does in the first quarter of games to see if that’s really true.

Emmanuel Acho and Keenan Robinson still back-ups for each other
Makes no sense… if one goes down, and you move the other one over, you still need somebody else to back up the back-up. And if Muschamp calls for the second team, do they just switch sides?
I know I’m nitpicking, just amused by this strategy.

My hunch is
they are just trying to get away with not burning and redshirts until Norton comes back. However, i did see Ryan Roberson play a bit at linebacker against Wyoming. I am guessing he’s all we have left that isn’t a true freshman from looking at the roster.

I really hope Roberson comes on...
This kid is an amazing athlete with size and speed. It looks like he get’s tied up with blockers too long at times, but when on the loose he is quick and can chase down from behind. He made the switch to LB last year and I really hope it works out for him. Given another year uder coach Boom and some playing time, then I believe he will. We may end up needing him more this year so we’ll hopefully see some more flash and game maturity as the season goes on.
In response to the thread…Tre Newton is fun to watch. I noticed his legs look a little “Earlish”. Big thighs and lower center of gravity with good game. He made a large impact Saturday.

Link?
Anyone want to post a link to the depth chart. Maybe I am just crazy but I cannot find it.

I loved watching Tre`
I think he is the back we have been waiting for. Someone who can run up the middle and bounce off tacklers and can take it outside. I am looking forward to seeing how he plays against a quicker and better tackling tt team.
