Is Elizabeth Graham playing for Baylor this year?
Or does she have to sit out a year after her transfer?
Iowa State will be a huge early challenge for the Gazelles. I think the Cyclones gave us fits in all three matches last season. But if we continue to outblock our opponents by a 10-point margin I can’t see either of these matches going to four at home.

She is playing for Baylor.
NCAA stats were released this week and guess who leads the nation in blocks per set?

Nebraska finally lost at home
The Huskers had their nation-leading 90-game home win streak snapped by #8 UCLA on Sunday. It’s shame, because I was hoping the Gazelles would be the team to do it! But clearly this is a rebuilding year for Nebraska, which has already lost to Michigan and UCLA and has struggled to win matches against Minnesota and unranked LSU and BYU. They’ve dropped from #3 in the pre-season to #8 now.
The season really seems to be shaping up as a 3-horse race now between Penn State, Texas and Washington, with Michigan in the dark horse role. UW will inevitably get beaten up in Pac 10 play and lose a couple, and Michigan will likely lose both matches with PSU, so Texas just needs to take care of business to ensure it locks down a 1 seed and a favorable draw in the regional rounds.

E-mail from the Exes advertised a ticket special to the Friday night match.
I’ll call the better half now to see if we can begin our football weekend in Austin a little sooner than originally planned.
I'll never forget ol' what's-his-name.

Yeah
You can tell their ceiling is well above where they’re playing right now. Destinee just flies. Unreal.

Did you see that kill?
She left from behind the 10ft. line, landed 6 inches from the net, mean kill.

It's called a back row attack
… and it’s my favorite play in volleyball. No one can execute it like Destinee can. Course she has an unfair advantage as a world-class high jumper, but as you said that girl can fly. She has to start her attack from the back row, which takes a great deal of momentum, then hit the ball between the 3 defenders on the front row and away from any of the 3 defenders on the ground in the back row. Oh, and if her momentum carries her into the net, we lose the point. That’s an awful lot of skilled mechanics to get precisely right, and no one in the country does it better than Destinee.

"Engle to Hooker"
Has a certain ring to it, like “McCoy to Shipley.”

Thoughts on the match
Definitely not our best match of the year. This match was better than Long Beach but worse than all the others. Never really were in sync.
Good news is Heather was nursing an injury from Saturday and didn’t practice until today. Sydney was apparently sick two days out of this week. Hopefully, those two will get better and our passing will improve for Friday. We will need to play better against Iowa State. We also need a bigger turnout at Gregory on Friday night.

I noticed
Rachael Adams getting set lower than her appeared comfort zone.

I didn't get to watch the match since we don't get ESPNU over here
… but if Rachael was playing at her natural position of MB, she will quite often get a low set from Ashley for a quick attack. I know there’s a name for the play but I can’t remember it right now. Michelle Moriarty used to use it with devastating effect with Brandy Magee and Pao. Rachael will get the hang of it soon enough. It’s a great play, because the opposing blockers have that split-second of doubt as to whether it’s going to be a high or low set – and split seconds of doubt almost always lead to kills.
