Excellent news, as Texas gets a quality opponent and a chance to head west to recruit the fertile California grounds.

UPDATE: As noted in the comments, we'll also be heading north to play Brewster's Minions. Count me in for both road trips.

actually..

..it’s not about “he who shall not be named”. It was a reference to the guys on the other side, who for reasons not obvious to me, HATE Mack for his “politicking”.

I just figured it out!

He who shall not be named is a Cal grad.

Good to see that while scheduling some BCS opponents,

we aren’t forgetting how important it is to keep the WAC and Sun Belt rivalries active. Fill the seats, get the scoreboard humming, give the walkons some field time.

When those things happen, all’s right with the world.

sounds like a good match up

This could backfire by producing an away loss, or they could suck by then.

If they have no real success to show from then and now… then probably, unfortunately.

Burnt Orange?

I thought your color was Mack Brown?

It’s about time for this one. Seriously. If for no other reason than to try and bring a bit of payback for some public crying politicking that jobbed Cal of a Rose Bowl.

Oh, and to also see whether Austin or Berkeley are weirder.

It’s more the fact that the 2006 Holiday Bowl should have matched-up Texas and Cal but didn’t.

Better than Tx v Michigan?

The only thing Tx v Cal would have had was the animosity that Cal had toward Tx, and if they would have played, the animosity is out the window because Cal got what they wanted.

Mack whining / Mack politicking, whatever. It’s time to move on and I can’t wait for this match up. I’m so tired of the whining that the Cal fans have done in the years following the incident. If that doesn’t include you, please don’t assume I mean you.

by GoHorns on Sep 18, 2009 3:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Texas vs. Michigan was in 2004. I think he means in 2006, when y’all played Iowa, who was 6-6, instead of Cal, who was 9-3.

Anyway, as everyone else is noticing, this is going to be a hell of a match-up.

It's all in good fun guys

But you are missing point.. You say you were “jobbed” out of the Rose Bowl, but then you go on to lose the Holiday Bowl to Tech, while Texas beats Michigan.

Not saying it is right, but as far as the national media was concerned the way the two teams played in the bowl games validated the voters decision

by Hookem4life84 on Sep 18, 2009 3:53 PM CDT up reply actions

That’s the same media that jobbed you out of the title game this year! HOW DARE YOU TRUST THEM.

Should be a fun time. Can’t wait for it!

I am incredibly excited about this match up. I know some Cal fans are still upset about 2004 and I respect those viewpoints, but for me, I’ve moved past that.

And I look for a variety of new and exciting reasons to hate Texas. So, please, help me better understand why I want physical damage to be visited upon your friends and loved one.

Don’t let Twist fool you! He still has a longhorn logo painted on the bottom of his toilet bowl, and regularly punches a pillow with Mack Brown’s face embroidered on it. Though, in his defense, he is making progress. He recently stopped screaming about conspiracy and justice whenever there are Texas highlights on Sports Center.

The Pain of 2004

I know some have said criticized cal fans for holding the 2004 grudge but come on guys .. i know texas has a great football tradition and so you guys wouldn’t know the pain… but just imagine..

- going 50+ years without a Rose Bowl… every year dying for that one dream…
- then one day.. going 10-1, with the only loss to #1 USC, where it came down to the last throw which would have been easily caught if our receiver hadn’t slipped…
- ending up #4 in the polls, cal alumnis who are now grandfathers finally smelling roses for the first time in their life… seriously, we have cal blogs called “rose bowl before i die”
- then comes some pleas by a coach to reconsider their votes…. but #4 in the nation.. and only loss to #1 USC (eventual champions) how could they not..

- but it did… cal drops in rankings in several polls as low as #7. cal gets passed up in the polls despite winning another game.

so to recap. 1 loss to #1 USC by 1 slip by the receiver.. and shut out of bcs altogether.

i have to admit, it still pains me to say it. i have nothing against texas.. cal fans don’t have any issues with texas fans… just another heartbreaking moment in history.. and some bitterness to brown’s tactics.. if this happened to you, it would hurt too.

as for the holiday bowl loss, come on guys give the kids a break. these guys are like 19-20 year olds. a heart breaking situation like really messed up their mindset.. they hardly looked like the team of the regular season.

hope to see you guys at the rose bowl (or championship game).. wish us luck against USC. see you in 2015 too!

get off me bandwagoners!

Absolutely understand

but what I don’t is the continued grudge. As much shit as Texas fans get over “whining” about last year’s “screw job” or the Mack Brown “politicking” in 2004, I wonder how much Cal fans get about theirs. The majority of us are over last year, when will Cal fans move on?

by gwh65 on Sep 18, 2009 10:09 PM CDT up reply actions

I’m going to guess Texas still has a fabulous crystal football they can hoist. Cal has no such booty.

So, bitterness is probably the apt term.
