Sergio Kindle Unloads On Taylor Potts
Safe to assume there won't be any "Where's Sergio?" posts this week...
How tough is Taylor Potts, by the way?

In one word: “illegal.” On August 8, 2009, Mack Brown was interviewed and commented on the changes in the game for this season. He stated that one of the big changes was that not only would there be a 15 yard penalty for helmet to helmet hits on the quarterback, that the player would also be ejected from the game. Obviously, the policy behind such penalty is to discourage defensive players from even getting close to such a hit.
In the play in question, the angle from the southeast clearly shows a helmet to helmet hit. Kindle hits the player low on the helmet and drives up. Evidence of this is contained in the subsequent frame whereby Potts helmet flies off from the force of Kindles helmet driving against Potts helmet, not the force of Kindles arm, shoulder, fingers, legs etc.
If the penalty had been called, there would have been no turnover. If there had been no turnover, there would have been no score. If there had been no score, it would not have been a two score ball game and momentum would have shifted.
This does not mean that Tech would have won. This does not mean that Texas would have won.
It simply means that the game would not have turned on the failure to call on a penalty on violations that the NCAA believe to be so dangerous that they are providing for the ejecting of a player.
Failure to make obvious calls on game turning plays cheapens the victory.
Good game. Catch you next year – in Lubbock.

I'm rec'ing this just so that it will be easy to find all week.
At some point we should all go through the first half game thread and call out the people who were 6 inches from the edge of insanity.
Over the edge.
Seriously, how would these folks handle actual adversity?

I was cracking up when they showed that. I wondered if Potts had the foresight to bring an extra set of contact lenses, because man, imagine if he hadn’t had any.
Or do you think they actually found the one that was dislodged?
BTW, as much as I loved the hit in the video, my favorite Kindle play was probably the one where he embarrassed the TT tackle who subsequently grabbed his facemask.

Potts wouldn't have them
Training staff ALWAYS stocks a ton of contacts in the right prescription for every player. It’s actually a fairly common occurrence for contacts to fall out (even without being hit).
How many sacks did he have total? nt
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
One.
One sack. One TFL and 1 QB hurry. Three total tackles.

Just one hurry? That has to be a mistake. The guy wrought havoc in the backfield.

That's what.....
…. I thought too. Yet, half of Mack’s pressers are still devoted to quoting the stats, so obviously he disagrees with you.

It’s cool for a DC to say something like that, of course, but metadata are a critical part of analysis, even when it comes to last week’s game film.

Geezus people.
I’m freakin’ Horn Brain. You think I’m really going to eschew stats?
My point was that Kindle affects the game in ways that don’t always show up in the box score.
Whoever Horn Champs thinks we should fire because of that is ya’ll’s thing.
I’m actually supporting Mack’s usage of metadata and such. I love that he tracks the so-called explosive plays and all that, because they’re useful when performing coaching-level analysis of improvement, what’s working, etc.
Coaching football is as much or more a science than an art, IMO. Of course, none of my coaching has been of football, so what the heck would I know?

Sergio go BOOM!
That hit belongs up there with the greatest wood ever laid by Lawrence Taylor, Derrick Thomas and Richard Dent – the three best I ever saw at obliterating a QB. Sergio made himself a little wealthier (next year, of course) with that hit.

he's going to need the extra $$
because that hit would probably draw big fines in today’s NFL

As would many of Lawrence Taylor's
Fortunately, college uses a pseudo mens rea standard for such things.

I think the helmet-to-helmet thing is just Raider talk
I thought Kindle put his head in Pott’s chest and knocked the ball loose, then when he fully drove into him it lifted his helmet off by pushing from the facemask. I would never wish that hit on myself or anyone, but brudder… that’s football. Sergio’s head went from the chest all the way through Pott’s helmet. I think people wanted some kind of flag on it because it just looked so painful. Not often that you get to see someone actually hit that hard.
FUG DAT!
It was not on purpose. Good hit. If he would have been faking the knee again Sergio would have taken his head off!
Could Ya'll Feel It?
I jumped about 3 feet in the air when I saw that hit initially. It’s like a years worth of pent up energy just unloaded on one play.
This is the new highlight for Texas vs Texas Tech…so long Crabtree.
Kindle taking Boom Motherf*cker to a whole new level.
Awesome.

Good hit,
but it didn’t rattle Potts to bad, seeing the next drive…..

Did you miss the part with him lying on the ground for 5 seconds afterwards?
Potts is a tough kid, no doubt. He shook it off and played well afterward. Texas fans have a tremendous amount of respect for that. But you can’t diminish the hit just because Potts rallied. The two aren’t related.
I didn't diminish the hit at all......
I’m just saying it didn’t rattle him. I love Harrell to death but that probably would have killed him.

Agreed
Heck of a hit. Funny thing to me is it looked like he was trying to smother and wrap up to make sure he got him, rather than drop his shoulder and drill him. Which probably saved Potts life, but also led to their helmets colliding.
"A lot of people look for the easy way to do anything, in swimming there is no easy way." - Eddie Reese
Another reason I don't feel bad for red-beard...
… Potts was asking for this all night. Half the time he would just stand straight up and chuck the ball like he was in the backyard. This wasn’t even a blind-side hit, Potts must have looked like a hanging side of beef when Kindle got around the tackle. No matter what happens this season, I will always love Kindle for this hit.
Sergio's Reaction
After the hit he just stands there and looks back at Potts while his teammates are congratulating him.
I think Sergio was waiting for Potts to move or show some signs of life before celebrating at all.

How bad did you get beat on that play....
if your tackle Marlon Winn (sic) that you have time to look up and still see your Qb getting smashed? His reaction is priceless.
