I finally watched UT vs TT
So I work every Saturday night and missed the game this week. So maybe I'm late to the party...Regardless I had a few observations.
1. Our Defense played great. I saw aggressive play and tight coverage. The problem was we had 3 dropped INT's and 1 Fatman coverup of a fumble recovery 10 yards from the endzone all in the first quarter. The way I see it we could have easily been up 21-24 pts by half time without the offense doing a thing.
2. Earl Thomas and Sergio Kindle are going to be All-Americans.
3. John Chiles to wr/rb adds yet another playmaker on the field.
4. Colt McCoy is going to figure it out.
5. Jordan Shipley is better at playing football than singing.

Compared to whom? Nathan Vasher?
Chykie Brown was the one burned for a TD, and he was still better than what than the third corner on every other team in the Big 12.

Wasn't Curtis Brown considered a 5 star blue chip player in high school? And yes he does suck

Do you have any kind of analysis to offer, or is this just an unsupported opinion?

ok...
1) You’re right. I actually did feel bad as soon as I posted that. Just proclaiming that someone sucks, especially at this level, lacks class, aside from any real analysis, and it’s not a fair breakdown. In the spirit of a better BON, sorry for that.
2) What was behind me being upset with Curtis was seeing him routinely over-pursue, lose his footing, and all around just get beat on Saturday. It was beyond frustrating because I can see his physical talent, but I don’t see him staying focused or disciplined. He’s not an awful player, he’s just a solid potentially great player (given his gifts) who is only playing acceptable. I have no no clips, screenshots, or anything else to support this….just something I noticed again, and again, and again, on Saturday.

Curtis has been the better Brown
so far this year. He’s been playing well.

Which 2 CB's would you take out of Jammer, Vasher, and Aaron Ross?
I would go Aaron Ross and Quentin Jammer, but thats just me

Ross was very good as a senior
Vasher despite not having the size, and possibly the speed of either Ross or Jammer was one of the best playmakers at corner I’ve ever seen. He’s UT’s all time interception leader, single season interception leader with 7 (and had 6 two years later), all time passes broken up leader, and single season passes broken up leader. He contributed at the highest level for arguably longer than anybody UT has had lately.
Stats hardly do him justice. Here’s jcdenton40

If I'm not mistaken
I remember the Okafor missed fumble recovery. Obviously a mistake by him, but I believe that play ended up not counting anyway IIRC

Okafor did miss the fumble recovery
He was trying to go the distance with the ball and it got stripped.
I can’t blame the kid for going for the gold, he had it picked up but Tech took the ball back.
I like his gusto

I believe
the play counted, but it was a third down play which then made it 4th and forever, so they then had to punt the ball away. It didn’t hurt us as much as had it been 1st down and they then had 2 more plays to make up for it.
The difference was had he fallen on it we would have had the ball on their 20, as it was we got it much further back (I’m fairly certain this isn’t the punt Shipley ran back and almost got gored on).

I think what you're remembering
is that Leach used a coach’s challenge on the play arguing that Pott’s arm was in throwing motion, the whole Tom Brady rule. But the play upheld and Tech had a 4th and 41 from like the 10 yard line. So yeah the play counted.

They were reviewing
whether Okafor had possession. If he had, it would have been 1st down TT at wherever they got the ball.

Broadcasters and everyone seemed to miss this
It seems obvious from the refs response to the replay confirming the ruling on the field of “no possession” (I think that was what he said) that the challenge had nothing to do with Pott’s arm and pass/fumble. What he was challenging was whether Okafor, when picking up the ball, had achieved possession. If he had, and then fumbled, it would have been first down for Tech where they recovered the ball. Not 4th down and a punt. This was, in my opinion, a fairly close call for the Horns. Even notsofst thought he had it picked up.
Anybody else share this opinion?

He hadn't cradled it yet
there was no “football-like motion” during the attempted pick-up. If they hadn’t hit him, he would have possessed it though.
I hadn’t actually thought of that as being a problem. Now that you mention it, that is pretty scary.

I think that play
was very similar to the catch by Jamaal Charles in the Rose Bowl where he had it knocked loose before he was able to make a move with it. Luckily for us Okafor hadn’t taken another step with the ball before it was stripped or yes it would have been a 1st and 10 for Tech.

Curtis Brown does not suck.
The left side of our OL does suck, but hey…those guys bleed for the program and I wouldn’t expect any changes until we lose a game.

No one on Texas sucks.
Sucking is OU’s job.

What I love is that the linebackers now appear to be the strength of the defense. A year ago, and heck, even just a couple months ago, there were concerns about the linebacking corps, but Muck’s been amazing, Acho’s been a ball-hawk and turnover machine, and Robinson has been very good in limited time.

And the position coach for linebackers is...
….Will Muschamp. Funny that.
God, I love the Boom.

when he is coach, is he going to pull a Pete Carroll and stay DC? and will he stay LB's coach?
by acho81 on Sep 25, 2009 7:28 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Pete Carroll
is not the defensive coordinator. He may have the last say in the plays they run, but I think he delegates.

Makes me wonder what it would have been like with Norton
They’re not bad now, and we’ve lost our starting MLB. I like that the coaching staff has been emphisising depth in the first couple games, because we need it.
Our starters are wild animals, but it can’t just be skin deep if we’re going to go the distance. Kudos to the guys who stepped up after Norton was knocked out.
