Volleyball Gets a HUGE Win!
The Gazelles ended a 20 year drought in Lincoln, Nebraska with a 25-22, 18-25, 25-17, 25-17 victory over #6 Nebraska. The last time Texas won in Lincoln was 1988. Interestingly enough, that year is the last year Texas Volleyball won a national championship.
The win keeps Texas in first place tied with A&M. A&M will likely enter the Top 25 poll on Monday by virtue of their win over #6 Nebraska on Wednesday night. A&M only needs to hold on and beat Missouri tonight. They are up 2-1. The Lone Star Showdown will be a battle for outright first place in the Big 12. First serve is at 7:30 pm on Wednesday night at Gregory.

Fox also mentioned it – a bright spot in an otherwise infuriating afternoon of sportscasting.

The Longhorns (9-0, 4-0 Big 12) last won in the Coliseum on Nov. 4, 1988, when only four players on the current roster were born, including a one-day-old Jennifer Doris.
Is there any other sport where we have this kind of losing streak still active?

The Gazelles version of Sergio
Adams has gained so much confidence that she becomes upset when opponents use finesse instead of muscle while trying to hit the ball past her.
That happened against Baylor on Wednesday. Adams picked out an adept outside hitter for the Bears — she declined to say which player — hoping to stuff her at the net all night. She said that player resorted to softly “tipping” the ball over the net.
“I was like, come on, hit the ball, so I could block her,” Adams said. "Stop avoiding me. "

Thanks for the updates PHF and Tempest
Amazing that a school could keep a streak like that alive against UT in any sport, particularly one where there is in state talent to draw from.
proud to swim home
Still at #2, no surprise
But we did pick up one of Washington’s first place votes.
The Gazelles do appear to have an easier road to an undefeated season than either Penn State or Washington.
We have #10 Nebraska (already beat them), #14 ISU (already beat them) and #19 Baylor (already beat them).
PSU has #6 Michigan, #8 Minnesota, #12 Illinois and #23 Michigan State ahead. Ouch
Washington has #7 Oregon, #9 Cal, #11 Stanford, #13 USC, #16 UCLA, and #18 Arizona. Ouch

Momentum
Word spread like a fever, and people in Nebraska were adjusting to it like a nasty urban legend. As the Texas Volleyball team walked the streets of Lincoln last Saturday evening, locals walked up with wide eyes and open mouths.
"They kept asking us, ‘Did you really just beat Nebraska?’" Sydney Yogi said. "No one beats Nebraska at Nebraska."
The Gazelles hope to carry that momentum into tonight’s match with aTm – the other team that has defeated the Huskers this season. Lone Star Showdown points will be hard to come by again this season, so we need to make sure we nail down the volleyball point. Tickets are still available, so those of you in Austin should take the chance to be a part of history as the Gazelles continue to battle for their first national championship since 1988 (we lost to the Huskers in the 1995 championship game).
