Horns #2 Again
Picked up a first place vote in the Coaches and lost one in the AP. Only Florida, Texas and Alabama have been anything close to resembling a dominant BCS-conference team this season. LSU heads to Athens to take on an unimpressive Georgia team next week before taking on Florida in Baton Rouge, so they may be the next top 5 team to lose. Of note, there are a measly 12 undefeated teams in the Coaches poll through 4 weeks. Last season there were 18, in 2007 (when we had a 2-loss national champ) there were 19.

ESPN Has AP Top 24 - Missing #16
Hmmm, has the basic poll (as of 11:30am Sunday) showing no #16 and has Georgia Tech in at #25. The expanded poll shows no #16 and has Oregon in at #25. I’m sure it’s those two schools who close out the bottom, but just calling out the clear typo by ESPN.

So, panel of experts (I'm calling you that)
What about Boise State?
No. 5 entering October with one legit win (Oregon) and three less so (Miami, Ohio; Fresno State; Bowling Green)? Cal-Davis this week.
If the Broncos beat Tulsa (it’s a Wednesday game, Oct. 14, at Tulsa), the rest of the sked is Hawaii, S. Jose St., La.Tech, Idaho, Utah St.,. Nevada, N. Mex. St. (They play 13 games.) Where is a 13-0 Boise State team ranked on Dec. 6?
After Tulsa, the only road games are Hawaii, La. Tech and Utah St. . . Nevada and Fresno were picked second and third in preseason media and coaches polls; Broncos already beat Fresno and get Nevada at home.

Oregon's providing some nice SoS for them
going on a tear through the rest of its schedule. If everyone else has a loss, who knows?

1 loss teams in top 10
scheduling a tough non-conf opponent and losing won’t hurt much this year. Va Tech is only 3 spots below Bama after losing to them. Ohio St. just 2 spots below USC. 3 SEC teams sandwiching Texas could play head-to-head, and a Texas loss could put Va Tech or Boise St. at the MNC spot (ranked 1 or 2 in this poll at least) if they win out?
A&M got one vote in the Coaches Poll. Their schedule so far is weak sauce, but I didn’t see their offense being this good regardless. Jerrod Johnson has been a stud so far.
Wow @ Ole Miss’ steep drop in the polls.

Well, they played awful
against a fair to partly cloudy team on Thursday . . . and Mississippi’s wins were over a wretched Memphis team and SE Louisiana (I-AA).

Yeah I had to talk my gf back from the ledge on that one
She’s an Ole Miss girl and COMPLETELY oblivious to how awfully overrated they were, regardless of how many times I’ve told her. Poor girl.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

Congratulations
For starters, nice going with the Ole Miss gf. Those are not easy to come by and well worth the extra maintenance (in my experience).
That said-and your gf notwithstanding-have you noticed that Ole Miss fans can be really cultish whenever the team is having some success? Collectively, they’re an odd bunch to begin with, but when they have some success in football they get especially irrational and fanatical. It quickly reaches a point where there’s no such thing as an objective discussion with them about their team or their opponents.
They’re not belligerent assholes like A&M fans. In fact, Texas fans should try to make every effort to come to the Grove in a couple of years when Texas plays in Oxford; you’ll never be treated any better by an opposing team’s fans. But they can have a lot of those same glassy-eyed, cult-like qualities that Aggie has. It’s hard to describe. You really have to know some of them, and know them while they’re having success in football (which isn’t easy) to get the full-on irrationality of it all.
Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate.

Football in the Grove....
Well…tailgating in the Grove is Amazing. I doubt the fans even know they play football, as its mainly a social event there.
For the cultish-type personalities, I call it the Manning Syndrome. Its sadly incurable.
And yes, I did get lucky and she is well worth the extra maintenance fees I pay monthly.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

Alabama looked better yesterday than they did at the same point last year.
The defense is very, very good and the QB is actually competent. That’s a scary football team.

Last season
I wanted Alabama to go undefeated, win the SEC, and meet Texas in the BCS title game because I knew that we would match up better with them than Florida. This season, I’m not so sure.
As a football fan, I really hope that Florida and Alabama run the table and meet in a national semifinal in Atlanta like last season. That would be appointment viewing.

I think I'd prefer UF,
but I don’t like the fighting Tebows odds against Bama unless some offensive playmakers emerge.

As of right now...
I’d have to put Alabama #1, if I had a vote in the AP poll. They’ve been more consistent and impressive thus far than any other team I’ve seen this season.
Now, having given them that particlualry potent and consistent kiss of death, watch for them to play horribly this week.

Teams take make me sick that are ranked in the AP poll
-LSU. Sure they are undefeated but lets be honest, they are just like Ole Miss, Cal etc and do not belong in the top 10
-Houston. Texas Tech is good. OK State is prob worse than TT. After a couple more conference games, they will get leap frogged.
-Iowa is a little too high
Im really not sure why Kansas isnt in the top 10. If you ask me they deserve to be ranked ahead of Cincy, TCu and Ohio St

U of H > KU

KU benefits every year from playing in one of the worst divisions in college football

"KU benefits every year from playing in one of the worst divisions in college football"
As compared to Conference USA?
I think what you mean is, U of H has played a more difficult season than KU thus far. Actually, they’ve played one of the harder schedules of anyone thus far.
KU’s real schedule comes in about a month and they draw the hard part of the Big 12 South this year.

Every time I have ever seen KU play a team that ended the season with more than 8 wins, they lose the game
Name one quality win they have in their history… hell, name one win they have ever had over a top 10 team
Kansas had a fluke good year a couple of years ago because they played some scrubs and happens to benefit greatly from the suckage that is CU, Mizzou and Nebraska
"We'll be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!"

Wait, you're implying a "top 10" win is less signficant than a "quality win"
Putting aside the logical pitfalls of that for a moment, are you a student/alum of U of H? You seem very defensive of a CUSA team.
KU beat a solid Missouri squad last year that won ten games and a Va. Tech team that won the ACC before that. If you can’t remember any quality wins Kansas has had under Mangino, I suggest looking things up from time to time.
Houston defeated a very overrated OSU team, and for that they have been given much credit. They also defeated Texas Tech, and hardly looked impressive doing so. Their schedule has peaked. They may win out and be a BCS buster, but to desribe them as a better team hi

Uhh
Va. Tech Orange Bowl. VT was # 3 in the BCS going into the 2008 Orange Bowl and ended the season at #9 after KU beat them. So there you go.
KU’s beaten a lot of teams with over 8 wins so you haven’t been watching much KU football. For instance all the 06-08 season non-cons had teams that had won at least 8 games (06- USF, 07- CMU, 08- La Tech). I don’t expect you to, but don’t act like you know everything about KU football and be all ignorant about it.
How about a quiz? In 2007 which team beat KSU and A&M and which team lost to both of them?
UT
KU
Do you know the answer to that one?
I’m not saying that KU is anywhere near the level of UT and when they play and I’m at the game, like ‘05 and ’08 I lose my voice cheering for UT. But please admit you’re a homer for UH (I’m one for KU, born in Lawrence) and don’t be ignorant of the team you’re bashing.

You have a love fest with UH don't ya?
KU is a decent team and they have the defense to play them well. So Miss could beat UH.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

I actually agree
I’m already sure that the lovefest for Houston that is about to begin in the Texas media is going to irritate me. I didn’t see a quality team last night at all. I saw Tech piss away about 5 chances to put that game out of reach.

I’m just not sure where you get the vast majority of the things you say, to be quite honest, but oh well.

I thought I'd come and make another reply to this thread.
Since I’m watching UTEP (who KU beat 35-7) DESTROY UH 58-35 with ~3 minutes left in the 4th.
So UH isn’t > KU by farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

The coaches poll is a complete joke.
So I guess its possible to completely destroy a team and still be ranked behind them? But not only that, 6 spots behind them. Or to fall behind early and then come back and win by double digits on the road. Or how about win a big game at home and prove your win on the road a few weeks ago wasn’t a fluke. What a joke to have Cal, Penn St. and Oklahoma St ranked above the teams that beat them. At least the AP got it right.
