Gresham Injury Rumors Swirling - SoonerFans.com Message Boards
Nothing in the press about this, but word in the netherworld is that Jermaine Gresham suffered a knee injury in practice and is out for at least a few weeks, if not the season. If true, it's yet another piece of terrible news out of Oklahoma this week.
This is not, it seems, the year of the tight end in the Big 12.

Talk about late-night breaking news
I guess we will find out in the morning if it’s true.

Crazy
To hell with the Mack Brown curse. What about the “Play football in Oklahoma—this past week” curse. People are dropping like flies.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Guess this is why dudes are increasingly turning pro after their junior year…. or getting massive insurance policies, e.g. Bradford.
Still a Blaine Irby fan
Perhaps...
But I think it was determined that the insurance policy only kicks in when the player is drafted or something like that. There isn’t a payout when they’re in college. Can someone clarify exactly?
It's not only that...
Coming back for another year gives scouts ample time to deconstruct you. See the brief write-up on Gresham from Scouts Inc./ESPN.
However, in all of our film study this summer, no upper-echelon prospect disappointed us more with his lack of physicality than Gresham. It’s one thing to have poor execution as a blocker; it’s another thing to dislike contact. If Gresham is to secure his place among the elite class in the 2010 draft, he must prove to NFL decision-makers that he’s tough enough to be an every-down player at the next level.
Not to say that wouldn’t have been an issue had he declared last year, but it’s worth considering how much an extra year in college will help his stock. In any case, if the news is true, that’s terrible. Gresham is probably my favorite Sooner (if there can be such a thing), and I think he’ll be an absolute beast in the league.
He might be a beast as a receiver, but that’s exactly what he’ll be: an oversized, average-speed receiver, kind of like Gates, KW2, or Shockey. He’s not exactly Bubba Franks, or even Tony Gonzalez or Todd Heap, as a blocker.

Rumored torn meniscus?
My knee hurts just thinking about it. I don’t recommend this to anyone. Hopefully not true for the young man’s sake. He is a great football talent.
But I can tell you from first hand experience if indeed it is a torn meniscus, after the scope, you are talking about a 8-10 week rehab ordeal for mortals and possibly a 4-6 week rehab for someone in his condition. Of course this depends on the severity of the injury. BTW, the pain is excruciating to say the least.
We want all the Sooners healthy come 10/17 to avoid crimsonite crying and excuses.
Hmmm...
Must really depend on the severity. We had a guy on my fball team in college who played the week after meniscus surgery.
Sounds like it was actually a minor scope.

Blake Griffin only missed one day when had the same injury
It varies for everyone but the worst is 4-6 weeks. Not 8-10

Yeah...you trying to get all grown up on us?
I see the Wood’row’ connection…what was the Woodrow Wilson connection? He wasn’t from CO was he?
Haha, thanks
It’s just the handle I had always used online. It was a random nickname that a college buddy started calling me and it just kind of stuck.

Someone posted something in another thread about Brody Eldridge’s being like Greg Smith. It occurred to me to post something to the effect that a Gresham injury would make Eldridge EBS II. Missed my chance.
Well, I don’t like OU, but Gresham is not on my very, very short list of guys I would like to see injured. In fact, only two guys are on that list, and one of them (Kellen Heard) is no longer playing football.
Okay, then. Time Cordera Eason to protect Snead with a cheap chip.

UPDATE
Apparently there is truth to this rumor, but still waiting on official word from OU athletics.
