Nickname for GG????
Hey Guys,
With the bye week coming up, I know most of you like me are trying to find things to occupy yourselves with things to do that may or may not be remotely related to Texas football.
With that being said, how about we expend some grey matter on coming up with a cool nickname for our new main man on campus Garrett Gilbert? I know we all call him GG, but come on, with the likes of 54B (to name one) to bless us with his unique insight on all things Texas Football (and then some), we can surely do better.
We got lucky the past 4 yrs. We couldn't have possibly come up with a better name than Colt (or the "Real McCoy", whichever you prefer) for a Texas QB. Man, he really was born to play QB for us.
Let the name calling begin!

love it
that is bada$$. I’ve never heard that phrase, it fits perfectly. Somebody needs to get this to a player on the team, because a nickname only really sticks when the team uses it

I like it!
Although it might be a tad to long to use on a daily basis.

I think he’s a long, long way from being the main man on campus.

Or, we could do something completely original
And call him by his actual name. /sarcasm Sorry, the whole ridiculous nickname craze is wearing on me. And that is in no way directed at you, LonghorForLife. It’s at society as a whole.

For me...
Much like “Bo Knows First Downs!” (Bo Scaife), “Give that man a Hamburger!” (Dave Thomas), “Careful, he’s brittle!” (Shipley after getting hit), “GG no RE” will just be something I shout incessantly whenever he makes a good play, to the point of annoying anyone within earshot.

I hear what you're saying, but
Daniel McCoy just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

I know i know
What can I say, its a slow day at work! You find ways to kill time. Don’t worry, I don’t take these things personally.
Also, burntorangehorn, I never meant to imply he was already our main man on campus. I am as big a Colt supporter as there is. I just meant that he is obviously the future of our program (post McCoy) and thus deserving of a nickname.
Man, people seem a bit touchy today. don’t know if it’s something in the air or just the prospect of no Texas Football this weekend.

Definitely didn’t want you to take it personally. I just hoped that you weren’t one of those already coronating Gilbert. Some have already stated that there’s not a shred of doubt that he’ll be better than McCoy.

I see your point
I can see how what I wrote could be mis-construed as me doubting Colt. Trust me, the thought would never cross my mind. Since 2000 (my freshman year) I’ve bought 3 Texas football jerseys: Roy Williams, Vince Young (with the Rose Bowl patch on it) and at the beginning of this season, Colt’s jersey.
I absolutely love the guy and don’t for a second doubt his abilities. If it wasn’t for one ALL-WORLD QB that preceded Colt on the 40 acres, an argument could be made for Colt being the best ever!

How about...
National Champion Garrett Gilbert.

Appreciate the props and like the thread...
but not sure I can help on this one because I just don’t think I know enough about GG to come up with a nickname that would stick.
One thing I do know is that you can’t force a nickname. It usually just comes naturally from the player’s personality or actions on the field. And his teammates, the people who know him best, usually come up with the best nickname that the fans typcially adopt.
That being said, hopefully we do end up with something better than “GG.” That for some reason makes me think of an elderly woman who still fancies herself as a flapper from the 1920’s.

The Baby Faced Assassin

coming to mind is...
G squared?
Garrett “The Yellow Dart” Gilbert?
Galloping Gilbert?
Sheriff Gilbert (in reference to his “gun slinging” abilities)?
Chris Simms with a brain?

You know,
He does kind of remind me of Simms (with the helmet on). I think when given brief glimpses of him, he looks like Simms. Then the redish hair throws everything off.

Simms with reddish hair...
Simms with a brain…
Wouldn’t that be a cross between The Major (Applewhite) and Simms?
What’s the rank above Major? General? General Gilbert or The General.

I like the General
but only after he leads us on a game winning drive, if he ever does
by acho81 on Oct 1, 2009 4:42 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
This is over the top, I’m sure, but I’d be very glad to see any drive he ever leads in the first quarter end up being the game-winning drive.

G-Spot, cause he always spots the ball well ahead of the first down marker

Something with Golden would work...
Golden Gun…as in 007, one shot kill.
Golden Gonads…might be a bit much.
