Will Muschamp and the Wildcat
Wow, I cant believe no one else noticed this. When ULM went with the Wildcat for that one drive before half, they gained about 50-60 yards on 8-10 plays without even throwing the ball. When number 3 lined up at QB the whole game, I was yelling "RUN! Its a RUN!" Our D got embarrassed by that formation. I look down at the field and I see Muschamp only putting 3-4 in the box. I thought for sure he would blitz the linebackers, or put the secondary in zone coverage with some corner blitzes, but no. Muschamp looked perplexed. They gained 5-6 yards a carry in that formation. I was shocked that we didnt put at least 8 in the box or go with a 4-4 with someone spying #3. The only reason they didnt score on that drive was a holding penalty and a false start flag. I hope OU or OSU wasnt watching this game, or else we are done for. Did anyone else notice this?????

I had no idea..
I watched the game in the stadium tho, so its kinda hard to figure out if the QB has changed or not..
Good eye!
I know that OU ran the wildcat against BYU
I saw at least one wildcat play in the first half where Bradford split out wide. hopefully we can figure things out before we play OU in October.
Five question marks so you know it is important
Maybe Muschamp did not want to play his hand on how he is going to handle the wildcat against ULM?
Whoa there.
The wildcat is not “new”, nor is almost any football scheme under the sun. This latest innovation in the old single wing (with jet sweep elements tossed in) was popularized in the SEC under David Lee and Gus Malzahn in the 2006-2007 seasons when Will Muschamp was DC at Auburn. This is not the first time he has seen the offense, and there is no one in the conference who can run it anywhere near the level of McFadden and Jones.
Also, the wildcat is not an offense which a team “just implements” at the college level. Practice time is too limited for teams to roll out dramatically new offensive schemes with any degree of long term effectiveness. There will be a few wildcat plays, but a full wildcat series would have to have been implemented in the offseason.
proud to swim home
