OU plummets to 13, BYU up to 9, OSU to 5
I figured OU would still be top 10. Wow.

Also, tOSU drops from 6 to 8 after their squeaker.
Texas now only leads USC by 69 points – down from 111 last week.

Also just noticed, Florida lost two of their first place votes to Bama, Texas held on to their two.

Exact same vote total for us (1424)...
USC only gained like 40 points over their vote total from last week. Alabama not only took 2 1st place votes from Florida, they gained almost 150 points on USC. Okie State and BYU were the biggest winners.

you beat me to it
didnt see your post til i finished mine, so i deleted.
the lessening of our lead on USC is not due to us dropping points though. our point total remains the same as last week. just a result of USC picking up a couple more 2nd place votes that had previously gone somewhere else and not to us.

Most were probably 3rd place votes they took from OU vacating #3...
They were 4th last week and they only picked up 40 points, so at most only 40 people voted them higher than they did last week, not a ringing endorsement of the USC bandwagon overflowing. I wouldn’t say we are in great jeopardy of dropping our spot just yet.

The Horseshoe
I imagine USC jumps us if they win, but I don’t see tOSU jumping us if the Buckeyes win.

Depends on the type of win
If USC crushes tOSU like last year then there is a slight chance we get passed. I anticipate a lower scoring affair in which case it doesn’t matter who wins. We won’t get passed. I’m not too worried about USC. They were basically only able to run the ball last week against SJST. If they are as one dimensional this week, Ohio State probably won’t win, but they’ll keep it close.

We get passed if we play Wyoming like tOSU played Navy...
I think if Wyoming is in the game through the 4th quarter and USC blows up tOSU we could get passed. That said we could play horribly for 3 quarters ala Ole Miss and so long as we put up a decent finishing score, we won’t get passed. I think Ole Miss looked worse against Memphis than tOSU looked against Navy, but the final score is what most voters are judging the teams since they won’t watch most of the games.

Which is unfortunate
I was actually slightly annoyed with Houston Nutt for that. It was pretty darn obvious he was trying to save face.

That game definitely wasn’t as close as the score indicates, but the results of the polls indicate that a number of people pay more attention to the score than anything else. Some obviously don’t, or else Ole Miss would’ve jumped up to the top five as well.
