Appologies for being late to the wake

After 24 hours of miserable driving from LA to Dallas with way too much time to think I have mostly gotten over my anger and numbness.  The pain is real and fuck it, its time to deal with it.  I think its now time to get over the sadness both for us as well as the sadness for our players.  The situation sucked, sucks and always will, but with the heart our players showed Thursday night proves that they don’t need our pity, so let’s stop pitying them and if they don’t need it we shouldn’t either.  We all know in our hearts and souls what would have happened had Colt played all 60 minutes.  To hell with anybody’s “No, you don’t KNOW that!”  No I know and no argument will ever change what I know, but I will accept that fact that IT didn’t.  Colt will be a better player/person for this experience and we need to be better fans for it.  Gilbert was put in the toughest situation in UT football history and he was able to give us something worth watching.  He brought his team closer to beating Alabama than Tebow did and needless to say Tebow had a few more snaps to his resume.  Before Thursday night’s game I thought we were in for a 3+ loss season next year and who knows we might be, but due to Gilbert’s performance I say we have another shot at a title.  After catching up on as many interviews as possible since the two day drive I noticed the lack of excuses made by our players.  That shows the discipline and respect our team has.  Anybody willing to explain discipline and respect to Saban and his (throat cutting gesture) Heisman winner and Co. feel free.  Sure we lose a lot, from Colt, Shipley and a lot of our O-line to Sergio, Lamarr and Earl, BUT We’re Texas and we don’t rebuild, we reload.

Hook 'em everybody, thanks for reading the small silver lining I campe up with after 24 hours on the road and 24 hours of self help therapy.  Hope to be sipping on hand granades on Bourbon St. with y'all come this time next year.

I also live in Dallas, but flew into Phoenix and Drove to Pasadena

While not the 24 hour nightmare drive you just completed, my 5.5 hour drive from Pasadena to Phoenix Friday morning to catch my flight back to Dallas gave me lots of time to think as well, and we’re pretty much in agreement (i.e., we would have won that damned ballgame on Colt’s back). If anything, I get more and more mad at G. Davis calling Colt to run on that speed option play right into a monster Alabama Defense. That play, quite frankly, should never have been called. Not with 90% of our offense consisting of Colt’s talents. Too risky, too risky.

Your point about Gilbert and Tebow is very interesting. Makes me wonder what Gilbert could have done in Pasadena with a full seaon under his belt with that offense. We’ll know more next year, and I’m hopeful for his quick maturation as a QB.

I agree!

I would call it, not playing to Colt’s advantages. I think it’s been pretty much beaten to death but Colt isn’t exactly the most “stereotypical quarterback” he’s not as built or something. So ramming him into big defensive backs just isn’t exactly…smart and probably plays to his disadvantages not his advantages.

yeah

Greg Davis just can’t win. Even when he tries to keep a defense off-balance it just ends up knocking out our quarterback and losing the game. I also find myself subconsciously blaming him for losing the game.

While I don't agree with GD's play call...

I understand it. The zone speed option read or whatever its called has had some success against Alabama throughout the season, I just wish we would have stuck to our guns and called our own game rather than try what others have.

At the end of the day Colt probably would have taken at least 5 hits harder than “that fucking hit” and those 5 hits probably wouldn’t have made him sit out even a single play. It was where/how he was hit, not the force of the hit, nor the play call in my opinion.

That's what I mean.
It was where/how he was hit, not the force of the hit, nor the play call in my opinion.

99% of the time nothing catastrophic would have happened with that play. GD was just extremely unlucky, but it makes him look like a moron. Probably because it goes on top of so many other questionable decisions by him.

My appologies

I think I must have subjectively read your post just so that I could say it myself to get it off my chest.

Don't worry

I’m positive I do that all the time.

Get off GD's arse, it was a freak injury

That’s nothing compared to most hits Colt has taken. In fact, if he drops back to pass, he probably is more prone to freak injury in the pocket (Nebraska’s onslaught anyone?) than he is running the pitch off the edge. Give it a rest.

As far as next year’s chances: I think this team will reload, just like was stated, and Gilbert’s going to pick up where JB, Applewhite, Vince, & Colt left off. When compared to other NCAA QBs, he’s going to be top 10 in the country for sure by next year. Other than the QB, their O-line CAN’T get any worse, right? Gotta be better, regardless of the graduations. We’ll miss Shipley but there are 10+ thoroughbreds in the barn for WR spots and, surely, we’ll get a TE or two back. The D is taking some major losses (big Lamarr, Sergio, Muck, & all-world Earl) but we have so much talent & so many recruits waiting in the wings at every position that Boom can figure out a way to dominate – again.

A return path to the BCS CG really depends on those suckin’ sooners. Herbstreit projects them as #2 in the country. They’re losing a ton of talent too so I don’t know why they’re guessing so high. Everything else the same, would you rather have Landry or Gilbert? ‘Nuff said. TTech & OSU will drop from their 15 minutes of fame and the Big XII will still be decided on Dallas. Besides that one, Texas ain’t gonna lose another.

No pitty.... just Texas pride!!!!

Thursday night was a roller coaster night emotionally, from the highest of highs to some pretty low lows. When it came time to shut the tv off I had to ask myself why was I not ready to punch holes in my tv, throw stuff, cuss, bitch, cry, hate or have any of the myriad of negative emotions I’ve had when the horns have lost ????
I thought to myself and did some soul searching and realized that I could not have been more proud of the boys on the field. They were no less than awesome and had left the field winners even though the score board did not reflect it. I’m not big on moral victories but this was different.
Everything Colt had to overcome, i.e. filling VYs shoes, getting knocked senseless against KSU, runner up to Bradford for Heisman, Crabtree last year, had ended on the 5th play of his ultimate goal. That was a heartbreaker if there has ever been one, but he returned as the biggest cheerleader for GG and the rest of the team. His toughness need not be proven or even questioned. This kid has taken some hits that would have made Butkus cry and bounced up almost every time like a kid getting out of bed on Christmas morning.
You could see the teams confidence wane a little at first but that was replaced by a determination and an effort that is unequaled in modern times. They believed they could win and so did most of the BON. It was amazing what a completion and a first down did for them. They will be back and with a renewed attitude and drive to claim that NC they deserve.
Texas pride was put on full display that Thursday night and could not have shown brighter. So thanks to all you Longhorns that never quit or gave up hope!!!! You are shinning example to all of the kids coming in on how to be a TEXAS LONGHORN.
HOOK’em!!!!
