Jackson Jeffcoat May Announce Next Week
[Update]: Jim Jeffcoat says he will remain at Houston. Certainly the first official word from Jeffcoat on the matter, but it may or may not be the final word on the situation. --GoBR--
In an interview with the Houston Fox affiliate, Jackson Jeffcoat indicated that he will take his official visit to Oklahoma this week and may make his final decision next week. Both Jackson and Jim acknowledged that there isn't any pressure to go to attend college at Houston, the school that currently employs the elder Jeffcoat. It's the same official party line the two have maintained throughout the process.
What could alter that paradigm significantly is a change in employment for Jim Jeffcoat. Rumors have flown over the last several days about Jeffcoat possibly replacing Chris Wilson at Oklahoma as the defensive line coach, the same job Jim currently occupies at Houston. If that does occur, the family would no doubt maintain the same official stance, but the possibility of having father, son, and sister all in Norman would surely have some appeal to the family as a whole. Another possibility is that Jeffcoat could step into the role of defensive coordinator at Houston, a job that is also currently available.
One school that is no longer in the running for Jackson is USC after the departure of Pete Carroll and Ken Norton, Jr. The remaining finalists are Oklahoma, Houston, Arizona State, and Texas.
As for the Longhorns, a blogger for Star Local News (whatever that is), opines that Jeffcoat is headed to Texas, based on a conversation with an anonymous source that never actually included said anonymous source making any confirmation of the Plano West star becoming a Longhorn other than a knowing smile accompanying the standard denial of said knowledge. So, yeah.
The news is that the blogger did learn that the presumed future coach of Jeffcoat will be visiting Plano in the next several days and Mack Brown has not taken his in-home visit with the Jeffcoats yet and would have to do so within days to fit into the current timeframe of a week or so. However, it's also not clear if any of the other coaches have taken their in-home visits.
With how little news has emerged throughout the process about Jackson's true feelilngs, it's almost hard to believe that he's approaching a final decision. In the Fox interview, Jeffcoat indicated that process hasn't been particularly stressful for him, unlike some other recruits, no doubt because of the intense protection his father has provided and the lockdown on information. And that lockdown makes all speculation concerning Jeffcoat's recruitment even more speculative than most than normal.

I didn't know Mack hadn't visited yet.
That certainly would seem a positive. Creepy travel trackers, do your work. Find out if the Brown sedan is spotted on I35N sometime this week, damnit.
It would be nice if there were some way to find out whether the other coaches had visited yet.
Question: with Jim in Houston, and Jackson in Plano, is it possible we’ve had the wrong idea on their visitation strategy?

From what I have read
Coach Brown, Muschamp and Oscar Giles are the ones doing the in-home. It was on the internet, so take it with a grain of salt.
Sumlin is staying at UH
and got a nice new contract. So, maybe he made a nice new deal with Jeffcoat to stay also. If Jim is still at Houston, you would think the 2.5 hour drive to Austin is much more appealing.
Jackson is tripping to OU this weekend (but Rivals had a teaser story like the plan might have changed). I think we will get him though. I feel positive vibes here.
I feel the vibe too
Some people might relish the idea of playing for the school that is your sister’s rival. All in good fun, of course.
If Jeffcoat wants to go pro it's either OU or UT
Houston ain’t gonna get him in the league. Knowing OU, they’ll probably give his dad the job just to get the kid. They’re not above that kind of stunt over there in College Football is All We Have Land.
In-VINCE-able.
Tulsa World News
Reported the same thing, that Jim Jeffcoat will not be OU’s new coach and that he is staying at UH. OU Rivals site also had some teaser information about whether Jackson Jeffcoat was still visiting.
Houston will get in him in the league. You're kidding
yourself if you think the NFL only looks to big time schools for talent. Abiline Christian and Stephen F. Austin each had wide receivers drafted last year over Quan Cosby. Jeffcoat will go to the NFL if he is good enough regardless of where he ends up going to college.
It helps to go to a bigger program with better coaching
However, I agree that a guy with the right talent and drive can get to the NFL via UH.

probably alot easier to get to the NFL going to a big time program than a small timers with a disadvantage in coaching/equipment/facilities/etc.

As well as
Showcasing his talents against equal competition….Look at the knocks on Shead and Jones and some of our recruits from smaller schools.
We think they are studs and will be fine, but we aeren’t as sure as we are with other recruits because they faced big time talent and prevailed already.
Not saying Jeffcoat wouldn’t still be drafted, and potentially high, but why put that doubt into the minds of the NFL gurus when you could avoid it?
Early enrollments
Rivals has updated to reflect three early enrollments for UT: Case McCoy, Connor Wood, and Adrian White.
Although there are some stellar players in the class, McCoy and Wood need as much time as possible to prep in case they’re needed as backups next year, and Adrian White appears to have what it takes to be an early contributor as a true freshman, so I can’t think of three I’d rather have on campus already. Maybe Wilson, Davis, White, and the two OL.

Jeffcoat Official Visit to OU this weekend
I can’t think that it is very good for OU that Jeffcoat’s position coach has not even been hired. The timing is working out in our favor since he doesn’t have a solid connection at OU now unless they are picking someone he already knows.
some new news, OU picked up a Juco DE to put them at 29commits. some sooner $ sites reporting they may only take 1 more commit (an OT) for the year.
can only help us.

They are going to have 4 early enrollments? They can give out 29 scholarships and still be under the limit?…
i read somewhere they had like 9 EE? at any rate, I dont think this puts OU out of the race for Jeffcoat, but it certainly doesn’t help them as their scholarship #s get tighter and the depth starts to build (not that ours is better, but the worse theirs gets, the better for us).

Geneo Grissom switched from Kansas to OU
That gives them 29 less their 5 early enrollees (Stills, McClain, Jefferson, Woods, Irwin) so they have 1 spot left for 2010, unless they greyshirt someone. Interesting that Blake Bell didn’t enroll early since QBs are usually the early enrollees to start learning the system.
I think they were smart to get Stills and Jefferson into the program and out of California to keep Kiffin and Orgeron away. They are probably two of their best recruits and with participating in spring drills they may see time on the field as true freshmen.
OU’s last 3 commits were all Defensive big guys DE or DT (Grissom, Williams, Humphrey). I’m sure they would love Jeffcoat, but this is making me lean toward him coming to UT.
Also, OU is starting to worry that their OC Kevin Wilson may take the head coaching spot at La. Tech. I don’t know if that will call fallout with their offensive commits, but it means they have to find a new OC.
Hopefully we will have Jeffcoat’s commit next week.
Its not a worry anymore
